  1. It seems like the Giants are always ahead. More often than not they seem to score early and not look back. Since the Brewers won the first 3 games in that series the Giants are 21-5.
  2. Lauer came close to getting spiked covering first on that DP. Hopefully he just got grazed.
  3. If there’s anyone faster getting from first to home than Yelich I don’t know who it is.
  4. Yelich keeps getting these hanging breaking balls that he should hammer, but he tops them or fouls them away.
  5. He obviously had some kind of injury issue, but it looked he wanted to stay in so it probably isn’t anything major. More of a precaution than anything. But, given his injury history, anything at all out of whack would be a cause for concern. Yeah, I guess I meant injured enough to miss some or all of the postseason. Should have said that from the get-go. Would be a huge loss for LA. I edited my post because I remembered that Kershaw has been out recently because of a forearm issue. It would be serious if that flares up. It wouldn’t take much to keep him off the roster for the wild card game if they wanted to have him as a bullpen option, or for the NLDS.

But, given his injury history, anything at all out of whack would be a cause for concern. If it’s something with his forearm, where he has had problems this year, it could take him out for at least part of the playoffs.
  7. That’s not what the Dodgers want to see.
  8. Yankees lose, Blue Jays and Red Sox win as the Al wild card races go down to the wire. Also, the Rays clinch having a better record than the Brewers.
  9. The Dodgers are hitting 4-5 HRs a night, and if they’re going to get cheap ones like that one they’re really going to be tough.
  10. Part of the concern is based on September, where the Brewers averaged only 4.27 runs per game, 4th worst in the NL and lower than any of the other NL playoff teams. The Brewers run differential for the month was just +4. The second lowest of the playoff teams is the Braves at +41. Hopefully the studies that say that late momentum (or lack of same) does not carry over to the playoffs will play out. Maybe in this case the fact that the Brewers played with a much bigger cushion than the other teams is the cause for the mediocre month.
  11. Forgive me, but I'm not seeing the prediction here. I think the first line in his post explains why you don't see a prediction. Just saying... "I’m not going to make a prediction on a series that I consider a true toss up." That’s OK. I’m used to people misinterpreting my posts no matter how clearly I try to express myself.
  12. The games may be starting during the day time (assuming a 3:30 start) but given the time of year and the extra length of playoff games, it will be twilight and then night time before the games are over. Regardless, if Freeman isn’t hitting I will credit Brewers pitchers and not stadium lighting.
  13. I’m not going to make a prediction on a series that I consider a true toss up. I am more confident that the Brewers pitchers will do well enough to give the team a good chance to win than I am that the offense will take advantage of those opportunities. Hopefully the hitters can break out of their malaise of the last few weeks. Since September 1 the Brewers have scored fewer runs per game and allowed more runs per game than any of the other NL playoff teams. I’m looking past the runs allowed because a lot of those innings were covered by pitchers who shouldn’t be seeing meaningful innings in the playoffs. But too many of the Brewers regular position players have been scuffling along for the last month.
  14. I suppose this is all subject to change, but the Spectrum channel guide lists NLDS games on both Friday and Saturday at 3:30 and 7:30 on TBS. if those are the actual times I would also expect the Brewers games to be at 3:30. The guide also has Friday’s ALDS games slotted at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM on FS1.
  15. Hopefully that goes well because I see Cousins as a better option for the back end of the playoff bullpen than Sanchez.
  16. I wonder who they are dropping from the active roster.
  17. Weren't you the same one who was giving the Cardinals a fighter's chance to win the division at this time last week? We're probably talking about very similar odds here. Yes, and I think the Cardinals fighting chance, as slim as it was, was better than the Phillies fighting chance is now because of the schedules involved and the fact that the Cardinals were on a blistering hot streak that didn’t end until their playoff position was cemented. Outside of what the Cardinals could control themselves by beating the Brewers head to head and winning their own games against the hapless Cubs, they needed the Brewers to lose 3 of 6 to the Mets and Dodgers. Outside of what the Phillies can control by winning their own games, they need the Braves to lose 4 of 4 to the Mets and Rockies. That is obviously a lot less likely. That’s beside the fact that everyone’s attitude about a situation is affected by their emotional investment in it. If I were a Braves fan I would be feeling really good about their situation, but withholding the celebration until they mathematically clinched, just like I did with the Brewers. The real incongruity is anyone who thought the NL Central race was over in mid August thinking that the Phillies have hope now.
  18. Even if he makes the postseason roster he won’t be playing a big role.
  19. Yes, but a magic number of 1 with one game remaining in this series and the Braves having 4 more chances to clinch with home games against the Mets (3) and Rockies, the Phillies hopes are all but gone. They really needed two wins in this series and they aren’t getting them. never give up while hope remains. I don’t care about this race enough to have hope or concern about it. But, objectively, even if the Phillies win today, and sweep the Marlins over the weekend, there is no reason to think that the Braves are suddenly going to lose 3 at home to the Mets and then lose the makeup game to the Rockies to give the Phillies a chance in a game 163.
  20. Does Ashby’s delivery and the movement on his pitches remind anyone else of Dan Plesac? Thank heaven that winning streak is over.

  22. The Fat Lady is clearing her throat and getting ready to sing at the funeral of the Phillies playoff hopes.
  23. Hopefully the Cardinals B Team lineup doesn’t have the “Runs on Demand” touch that they have had the last 3 weeks. Maybe Applegate and Lola are taking the night off.
  24. It’s the battle of the Sunday lineups today. At least Adames is back in, hopefully confirming that his scratch yesterday was nothing serious.
  25. Is this part of some grand satanic plan to grease the skids for the Cardinals to win the World Series? First Brandon Belt breaks his hand getting hit by a pitch. Then, because Williams never bats, the devil in red had to come up with something else. My guess is that it involved Lola from “Damn Yankees”. A lot of Cardinals fans must have sold their souls to get this much luck.
