  1. TBS has had a game every Sunday afternoon since June. Brian Anderson is often the PBP announcer for these games, one of the various things that cause him to miss Brewers games. Next year they are going to have weekly games on Tuesday nights instead of Sunday afternoon.
  2. On August 10th they were 67 - 49. Season high 18 games over .500. SInce then they have pooped their pants to the tune of an 11 - 27 record, and now have to win 3 games still in the last week just to finish .500 for the season. 2 against ATL, 3 against LA, and 3 against SF, and there's a real chance they don't make it to .500. What a fall. This season has provided quite a few examples of how quickly things in baseball can change. Ranging from the Padres fall to the Cardinals charge. Still some interesting things to watch this week even if the Brewers clinch today: the Braves-Phillies race for the NL East, the Dodgers-Giants race in the NL West, and the 3 way race for the AL wild card spots.
  3. In the ninth inning I was wishing that I didn’t remember that Peraza hit the HR against Hader that gave him his only blown save of the season. Especially after Hader looked to be overthrowing to Villar. Just one more.
  4. It’s so frustrating seeing the wild swings they take against someone like Hill. Then when they do make contact the timing is just off and the pitch is so slow and you end up with 300 foot fly outs.
  5. No, they don't. Guess not. They got away with 7. I was hoping they could go right to Hader without having to risk an inning with Boxberger given his recent troubles.
  6. Relax. Some of us are going to the Brewers game tonight and hoping for a rare opportunity to see the Brewers clinch a division title. So, we’re watching the Cubs-Cards game because that’s an essential part of it. You telling me to relax is the epitome of irony. And here comes the protocol police. Apparently they can’t tell the difference between getting excited about the Brewers and getting excited about what others decide to talk about. Off to the game. Enjoy.

  8. Cubs just failed to score with 1st and 3rd and no outs. Last 2 outs on a DP with a runner caught off base.
  9. Good job by Sampson holding the Cards to 2 for 6 innings. Now comes the arson squad.
  10. I’m not sure I’d put Nola on that list. He has ace stuff and potential, but his performance this year has been spotty at best. He has occasional dominating days, but has been shelled pretty frequently this year. I think the Phillies would have the least impressive starting pitching on paper of any team in the NL playoffs. I don’t see a great advantage to playing either the Braves or Phillies. Either would be tough, but not as strong as the Dodgers or Giants or The Team That Shall Not Be Named.
  11. Who’s available as first out of the bullpen tonight. Is Strickland still around? Might need a couple from Suter at some point too.
  12. If the key to winning is pitching and defense the Brewers haven’t had enough of either this week.
  13. One thing I have noticed over the years is that people who criticize others that they think are too negative seem to assume that those people are miserable wretches who can’t and don’t enjoy anything. In the sports context they supposedly aren’t “enjoying the ride” But several studies have shown that “defensive pessimism”, which involves keeping expectations low and considering multiple outcomes to help prepare for a bad or worst case outcome is very healthy. So, to each their own. When you make a living in a career that requires you to consider and anticipate all foreseeable outcomes, and take steps to mitigate or prevent the bad ones, it’s hard to turn that off in other settings. Here is an article that explains the concept: https://www.thecut.com/2015/12/are-you-a-defensive-pessimist.html
