  1. #FreezingColdTake alert LOL Right now, I'm totally ok with Garcia having the day off, ceding his spot to Taylor It would have been possible to have both Garcia and Taylor in the lineup. Can you think of any corner outfielders who have been less productive than Garcia recently?
  2. It wasn’t like that before, then it was. Then there was a repeat of a line and now it sounds like it’s a split second behind. They must try to reset the synching every so often.
  3. This really becomes a must win now. After so many games struggling to score runs, especially early, getting this lead get away would be demoralizing.
  4. I rescind my objection to Garcia being out of the lineup. Although I really would have been happier to see Taylor playing for Yelich.
  5. As a snapshot it would look great. But you can’t separate the snapshot from the circumstances leading up to it. I can understand that some people can look at this and say it is over, so no reason to be concerned about anything. But I don’t understand why those people are bothered so much that others look at it differently. I watch sports the same way I played them. I played hard until the game was over. Letting up with a big lead and then trying to rev up again when things got closer never seemed like a good idea.
  6. If the Brewers were still fighting for post-season positioning I'm pretty certain they would be riding their studs more. No need to with the way things currently stand. Not sure why some here refuse to understand that I would clinch first and rest later, but I guess that’s just me. Especially when it’s a game that’s worth twice as much as a win over the Mets. With only 10 games left and a slumping offense, I would be concerned that it might not be that easy to flip a switch and pick up wins in the final week if it isn’t wrapped up before then. If the one player who has produced more offense than any other in the lineup this week is physically unable to play 4 days in a row without injuring himself again, the Brewers have another problem to worry about.
  7. Interesting that the Cardinals best players are able to play 4 days in a row without rest, including their 100 year old catcher.
  8. I long for the games in Detroit where they were really slugging Seriously, this is a team wide hitting slump that has lasted for over a week now. And you can see that the players are pressing by the number of wild swings for the fences (even more than usual). Only some of the Cubs most dreadful pitchers were able to coax some runs from them, usually with a handful of walks and wild pitches to help them out. It would help if the starting pitchers could avoid putting the team behind in the first inning because that just adds to the pressure on the hitters. They have 10 games to straighten this out or we could be seeing something truly historic. I don’t think simply changing the venue to St. Louis or LA is the solution. It has to come from the hitters themselves. They’ve gone through a few stretches like this before, such as early in the season and in the two series against the Reds at AFF in June and July. They were able to turn things around then, so hopefully they can do it again before it’s too late.
  9. I do get the frustration. I really do. But there is about 7 or 8 worst-case scenarios you have wrapped up in here that you are kinda making sound like an actual, legit possibility. I’m trying to take these things in sequence, because I think there is significant value to the Brewers in wrapping up the division as soon as possible. The sequence is: 1. Tomorrow’s game which could take 2 off the magic number and effectively end any anxiety. 2. This weekend, where there will be 7 games in which the Brewers might take one off their magic number. 3. The Cardinals series, where there will be 3 games in which the Brewers can take 2 off the magic number. 4. The final weekend where there will be 6 games in which one could come off the magic number.. That’s 17 relevant games, and only 3 of them have to produce the Brewers desired result to mathematically, 100% end the race (and it only has to be 2 of them if one is one of the Brewers-Cardinals games). Logically the odds of that not happening are astronomical. But, I just want to see it done as soon as possible, preferably before the home stand ends. Last week it seemed all but certain that the clinching would take place during the Cardinals series if not before. A loss tomorrow and that becomes no better than a 50-50 proposition.
  10. I’m not going to call tomorrow a “must” game because it obviously is not exactly that. But, I will say that it is a very important game. Win and the magic number goes to 1 and the Brewers can clinch the division at home by winning one against the Mets. And they will go into that weekend series in a much better frame of mind than if the Cardinals complete the sweep. Lose and the outlook is significantly different. The team goes into the weekend still pressing trying to snap out of their group hitting slump, and can only guarantee clinching the division by sweeping the series unless they get help from the Cubs (whose pitchers are going to be red meat for the red hot Redbirds). If they do lose again tomorrow, it becomes critical that they at least get that magic number down to 2 so that it only takes one win over the Cardinals in St. Louis. Going into the final weekend facing the best team in the league needing even one win while staring in the face of being known as the biggest chokers in the history of baseball would put pressure on anyone.
  11. How about winning one game in a four game series with the Cardinals with no regulars getting injured? Why isn’t that possible? Seems like they are going to be facing more risk of injuries if they go on the road next week still needing a win or two to clinch the division.
  12. Go back and look at the box scores for those games played in April. The lineups for both teams are very different than the ones playing now, so those games have zero relevance or predictive value for the postseason.
  13. At what point do even the most optimistic fans think that the Brewers are playing themselves into a dicey situation? Are they suddenly going to start hitting and sweep the Mets this weekend? Or are the Cubs going to rise up and take 2 or 3 from the Cardinals? Or will the Brewers go into St. Louis and win a game? Is Counsell going to stay with the 6 man rotation into next week because “it has worked all year”? I said last week that I didn’t want to see the Brewers go into that last week without having the division wrapped up. If they can’t beat Wainwright tomorrow there’s a pretty good chance they won’t be clinching at home.
  14. Now we know why Counsell said Anderson would have a short start. Even he didn’t expect him to survive two innings.
  15. Worst case scenario. A struggling offense put in a first inning hole.
  16. Because of the 5 head to head games, I look at it this way. 1. If the Brewers can just win one against the Cardinals, the Cards would have to go 7-0 against the Cubs while the Brewers go 0-6 against the Mets and Dodgers and then win a game 163. A second win against the Cardinals obviously ends it. 2. If the Cards win all 5 against the Brewers, the Brewers would have to go at least 3-3 against the Mets and Dodgers to clinch without help, and could afford one more loss for each game the Cards lose to the Cubs. The extremely remote possibility of number 1 playing out is why I have been so fixated on the Brewers winning just one game in the current series. If nothing else it gets the clinching out of the way sooner and allows the Brewers to focus exclusively on setting themselves up for the playoffs. The second scenario, while still unlikely, is nowhere near as far fetched and could push the clinching out until the final weekend, which would be unfortunate for a number of reasons.
  17. Counsell’s comments about Anderson having a short start tonight make me wonder what the plan is. If Strickland is still around I could see him coming in for two innings before going to Ashby. I just hope Anderson doesn’t foil the whole plan by giving up a 3 run HR to Arenado in the first inning.
  18. My lifetime playoff record is pretty good. 1981- 0-2 vs Yankees 1982- 5-1 2008- 1-0 (only game Brewers won) 2011- 2-0 (first games of NLDS and NLCS) 2018- 2-1 (Game 1 of NLDS and Games 1 and 7 of NLCS) So, 10-4, including 10 of the last 12.
  19. Thanks. We don’t need great, low seats. Our 10 pack is in the first row of the terrace boxes behind home plate. I prefer higher behind the plate to lower down the lines.
  20. What kind of seats were you able to get for game 2? That’s the one I want because my daughters who go to games with me can’t go on weekdays. I am only eligible for the 10 Pack Presale on Friday.
  21. I'm going. Must win. Brewers owe me. They are 1-4 with me in the stands at AmFam, with a total of 5 runs scored. I was at least hoping for Ashby, and I get Anderson. You've got me beat. If the only Brewers games I had seen this year were the ones we attended on our 10 Pack (once it started in May) I would figure the Brewers would be lucky to win 70 games. They are 2-4 and in the losses they have not scored much. One of the wins was the Braves game that they led 8-0 in the 7th inning, cave up 7 runs in the 7th and held on. The other win was against the Pirates and also featured very little hitting. We are also supposed to go Saturday; hopefully we won't be seeing an attempt to break a 6 game losing streak.
  22. I won’t be doing it if they’re playing the Giants, and I’ll be conflicted if they’re playing the Dodgers. I remember in 2011 right after the Brewers beat the DBacks to win their series, I settled in to watch the Cardinals play the Phillies. By all logic I should have been hoping for the Cardinals to win because it would give the Brewers home field advantage in the NLCS and eliminate the team that had been by far the powerhouse of the league all season. But, as the game unfolded, I found that I was hoping the Cardinals would lose. My distaste for the Cardinals, combined with the fact that they had beaten the Brewers 5 of 6 in September, gave me a bad feeling about facing them in the NLCS. This year is playing out in eerily similar fashion and I have a feeling I’m going to feel the same way once I see the Cardinals on the field. I would take my chances with the Giants beating the Dodgers in the CS rather than risking another utterly disgusting Cardinals World Series appearance.
  23. …and if not that one, then the next day! In all seriousness if they can win one game in this series then I’m pretty confident they’ll still clinch the division with more than a week to go in the season. Getting one has been the goal since Monday. But now that the two most favorable pitching matchups have passed and the offense is still showing no signs of life, getting that one is getting harder every day. I’m not real confident that Anderson will be able to keep the ball in the park against the sluggers in the middle of the Cardinal order.
