  1. Then let them move on to play the Giants who, after having the Dodgers catch them (thanks to the Brewers) now seem to be intent on staying in front. Now is the time for the Reds to take advantage of those 10 games with the Pirates that I thought in August gave them a chance to make a move on the Brewers. Hopefully the Cardinals tougher schedule will hold them back, but they are reminding me of the comments about cheap underwear: “they keep creeping up on you”. They are now just one game out of that second WC spot.
  2. Scherzer has issued the seemingly daily no hitter watch. Perfect through 7 with only 80 pitches, no big deal for a veteran workhorse.
  3. The Packers defense looks like they’re already gassed from the heat while the Saints defense sits with their feet up under fans on the sideline.
  4. This can be a discussion for the off-season, but with Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, Houser, Lauer, and Ashby, I wonder who they might be willing to trade to help fill a hole in the every day lineup. I realize that you can never have too much pitching, but you also have trade value to get value and with so many teams desperate for pitching they might be able to get a pretty strong position player in a deal including one of those pitchers.
  5. The stretch of 16 games in 16 days that included series against the Reds, Giants, Cards, and Phils was the block of the schedule that I wanted the Brewers to get through. If they were going to lose significant ground, that was where it was most likely to happen. Even with the little stumble in the “sandwich” series against the Twins, they got through that at 10-6 and put the division race into my comfort zone.
  6. Garcia was really close to having 3 today. He has hit the ball extremely hard 4 times.
  7. OK. Now they can start giving an inning to the relievers who haven’t had one for a few days.
  8. The only cycle I’ve ever seen in person was in an interesting setting. In 1976 I went with some friends to Tiger Stadium to see Mark “The Bird” Fidrych during that period when he was the sensation of MLB. They happened to be playing the Brewers, and Mike Hegan hit for the cycle as Fidrych was rocked from the game early. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET197609030.shtml
  9. Another one of those mid game commercials. I guess they figured with Bradley up we wouldn’t miss anything. They were right.
  10. Manny is just a triple from the cycle. Now THAT would be rare, although cycles by Brewers catchers is something of a franchise tradition.
  11. Counting the 9th inning Friday that’s 14 straight hitless innings for the Indians.
  12. The Blue Jays offense isn’t too hot. They’ve scored 27 runs in their last 4 innings. 11 in the 7th yesterday to come from behind in the last inning of a doubleheader. Then 16 I the first 3 innings today, including 10 in the third. They won the first game of yesterday’s DH 11-10.
  13. The last few weeks have been nice. Knowing that we don't have to live and die with any given loss. My short term target right now is based on having tickets to next Sunday’s game against the Cubs. With the magic number at 7, it is possible that that could be the day of the clincher. The Brewers have 5 games between now and then and if they could pick up 3 or 4 wins while the Reds lose whatever is needed to bring the total to 6 (and the Cardinals lose a couple) we’d be right there. We also have tickets for the following Saturday against the Mets but at this point I’d rather not drag it out that long.
  14. One number that struck me is that there have been 10 no hitters this year and 27 complete game shutouts. Can you imagine what that ratio would have been in the 50’s and 60’s when the vast majority of shutouts were complete games and no hitters happened once or twice a season if that. ETA: as a sample I looked at 1957 on Baseball Reference. That year the 16 teams combined for 137 complete game shutouts and there was 1 no hitter. There were only 14 combined shutouts. There were 13 individual no hitters in the 1980’s, and there have been 44 since 2010. That probably helps explain why, at least for me, the excitement for no hitters has faded significantly. Something that happens once every couple of weeks like it has this season isn’t that special. Until last Sunday I hadn’t heard of the term “ultimate grand slam” for a walk off grand slam HR with the home team trailing by 3 runs. There have been 30 of them in MLB history. Not only are they rare, but they carry the excitement of carrying what looked like an almost certain defeat into a dramatic victory. That’s more exciting to me than a no hitter.

  16. I want to see Don Money
  17. I do. How do I attach it here or send it to you. I tried to attach it but it says the file is too big. Haha, yea I had the same problem. That's ok, 8 didn't last long! The one I have he doesn’t have his shirt on.

  19. I would say much, much more the former than the latter. I would be interested to know how much lower their ticket sales were before the season started than they are in a normal year when people from out of town are planning trips and groups are planning outings to games.
  20. Of course games aren’t selling out. The Brewers rely heavily on advance ticket and group sales and that really suffered this year with all of the uncertainty over what the situation would be. I’ll bet their TV ratings are higher than normal.
  21. I always enjoy games in which the Brewers score a few runs early, and the opponent doesn’t score and hardly even threatens to score. Let’s make this a Saturday night tradition. That’s two in a row now.
