  1. With Pina and Burnes up I don't understand why not just let Gray have the inning at this point. The Red's bullpen is about as tired as the Brewer's Gray is only about two weeks removed from the IL, a stint that started when he was removed from a game against the Brewers in early June. Letting him throw over 100 pitches (many with runners on base) would not be prudent from a longer term perspective.
  2. Yelich gets a high outside breaking ball that he should be able to rip to left and he swings right through it. 3 RBI chances today and nothing to show for it.
  3. I was hoping that the solid hits Yelich had in his last two ABs last night might be the start of a streak of competence. No such luck. Two golden RBI opportunities wasted.
  4. I almost posted a sarcastic “blue” message about a classic Sunday lineup now that the Brewers have won the series. Therefore, there is no reason to treat this as an important game. I assumed that Pina would be starting today so that’s no surprise. I’m also not surprised that Tellez is starting, but thought Wong might be able to go 3 days in row with 2 off days in the next 4. My sarcastic lineup, though, had Hiura at second and Peterson at third and Urias at short with Adames also sitting. This lineup isn’t far from that.
  5. Now that the Brewers have announced they are giving Peralta a break, I wonder if their original plan was to pitch Peralta on Friday against the Reds, followed by Woodruff and Burnes. That would have been the normal 6 days after Peralta’s previous start. Then they could have skipped his turn with the off days and brought him back after the White Sox series. But, they adjusted that after he was made a late selection for the ASG.
  6. Between this game and the Bucks game, this had to be one of the most stressful, roller coaster sports nights I’ve had in a long time. All’s well that ends well, but it’s going to take a little while to wind down.
  7. This is what makes the Brewers offense so frustrating. Every team is “inconsistent” scoring runs to some extent, which isn’t surprising considering the most influential player on the field changes from night to night. But, the Brewers have been ridiculously “feast or famine” lately. They’ve only scored 10 runs in their last 7 losses and are well on their way to making it 10 runs in 8 losses.
  8. 37 is strikes, he’s at 56 total Yeah, I misread the box score. Maybe he’ll be out after 7. The Brewers sure aren’t scoring against him.
  9. Reds won’t have to worry about their bullpen tonight. Castillo looks like he’s going 9 with only 37 non stressful pitches through 4.
  10. Better now, I guess. Strickland's about to see some high-leverage innings. Hope it's not the bad kind of right elbow discomfort? As if, maybe, there might be an okay kind. Did they make that retroactive at all? With the off days coming up next week he could be eligible to come back as early as next weekend. Hopefully it’s just a minor thing and they’re taking advantage of the off days to give him some rest. This does make the loss of Richards hurt a little more in the short term.
  11. The Brewers roughed Castillo up (5 runs in 5 innings) in late May when he was struggling against everybody. Through May in 11 starts he was 1-8 with an ERA of 7.22. Since then, he has had 8 more starts, including 3 against the Brewers, and has been much better, with an ERA of 1.97 and a WHIP of about 1.00. In his last 3 starts against the Brewers he has allowed just 7 hits in 18 innings, and 3 of the 4 runs he was charged with came after he left the game. The game in Cincinnati was interrupted by a rain delay. You have to expect that runs will be tough to come by with Castillo on the mound. Hopefully Woodruff can at least match him, if not outduel him. Castillo reminds me of Freddy Peralta in that he tends to be somewhat inefficient. He is usually throwing his 100th pitch by the 6th inning.
  12. The Brewers are 1-0 when Ashby starts so let’s get him back out there as soon as possible.
