  1. On Wong’s bunt I was looking for Dozier to sweep the ball off the line like the Mets pitcher (Walker) did the other day. On the replays it looked like the ball was completely foul briefly, but then took just enough of a turn to the right to kiss the line. Anyway, nice to turn that break into two more runs. Now it’s up to the B Team bullpen to cover a few innings.
  2. It’s a good thing the Brewers aren’t in the AL Central. They’ve been pretty pitiful against the Twins, Tigers, and Royals.
  3. Of course, a pitcher being injured is often unrelated to the pitcher’s arm being abused, especially when that pitcher destroys his shoulder diving into a base.
  4. The numbers do show it if you just look at left handed starters and runs scored against them. By my count the Brewers are now 8-11 in games started by lefties. We had an exchange about this in the game thread for the game Miley started.
  5. Hopefully that dreadful performance isn’t an omen for what’s coming tonight.
  6. With Williams and Boxberger out this bullpen might be hard to watch.
  7. The only hard hit ball ends the inning. And I was even thinking “anything but a DP” because even though Adames is the guy you want up there I would have liked to see Yelich have a shot at a bum righty.
  8. Adames has had a quiet day so far but he has a chance to change that now. This inning is one to remember when an opponent dinks in a bunch of hits. Now they have to turn them into runs.
  9. I didn’t hear, but my interpretation would be that he’s in town to see the Bucks game and to visit the Brewers while he’s here. Even if he had no intention of playing again I don’t think he would announce his retirement on a day with a much bigger story in town.
  10. Add Minor to the least of lefty starters to baffle the Brewers. He gave up 24 runs in his previous 4 starts, but the Brewers needed two misplays by the Royals in the field to squeeze across 2.
  11. What makes it worse is that often the runner’s foot comes off the bag for a fraction of a second by a millimeter because of force applied by the fielder. So, they’re encouraged to slap the tag on hard and hold it hoping for that split second of disconnect.
  12. Garcia is going to be called out in a perfect example of how replay changes the game…and not for the better.
  13. I think your numbers are off a bit. He has 31 ABs in July alone and is .194/.306/.290. His slugging has been okay since he was recalled because there are 4 doubles and 3 homers in there, but he's also struck out 16 times in 31 at bats in July (and 14 times in 33 at bats in June). Sadly it is an improvement over where he was in April and May. The productive part of his PAs since he returned from the minors came in 4 games against the Rockies and Cubs. Since then he’s been striking out pretty regularly again.
  14. Feel lucky to get out of that with just one run with 3 base runners and two hard hit drives to the outfield.
  15. As was discussed in the game thread when the Brewers faced Miley, the Brewers haven’t gone up against that many left handed starters this year, and they have had less success scoring and winning in games started by lefties than righties. Minor has been roughed up pretty good lately. Hopefully the Brewers can get to him and put up some runs early.
  16. If you say so.
  17. Nobody is recommending running him into the ground. You can’t have it both ways. And the Brewers continue to prove your thoughts wrong as to how they are managing their arms. Take a break for a bit and enjoy the show. I call BS on your statement that I want to run Peralta, or any pitcher, into the ground. All I have said is that, if you want to limit pitchers’ innings, it can be done while still having your best pitchers facing your main division rivals as often as possible and timing their skipped starts around them. Why don’t you take a break from your high and mighty criticism of other people’s opinions and how they choose to comment? If I weren’t enjoying the show I wouldn’t be taking the time to comment on it.
  18. Nobody is recommending running him into the ground.
  19. Giving a healthy pitcher 3 weeks in between starts would seem to be likely to do more harm from rust than good from rest
  20. I think he’s concerned about letting Burnes throw more than holding the lead. He had that same look when Peralta had the no hitter going and you could almost hear him thinking “Please give up a hit so I can get you out of there.”
  21. Ueker called this out before the ASG saying how in the old days two people used to do the schedule and nothing this screwed up happened. I think he said with paper and pencil, but don't quote me. It was some old school stuff, of course I think it was a woman that did it for like 40 years. It was a husband wife team but that ended about 20 years ago.
  22. I realize that setting a major league schedule must be challenging. But isn’t it ridiculous for two division rivals to (1) not play each other in the first 43 games of the season, then (2) play each other 16 times in the next 52 games, and (3) play each other just 3 games in the last 67 games, none later than August 26, when intra divisional games could be the most interesting. The Brewers have played the Reds in almost a third of their games over the last 2 months.
  23. I’m really glad the Brewers waited until their 16th game against the Reds to find a spot for Burnes to face them.
  24. Hoping for two more scoreless innings from Burnes before turning this over to the bullpen. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Hader in the 9th even if it isn’t a save situation.
