  1. Cain is one of those guys who seems to like playing opossum. Looks like it’s hurting him just to get up after sliding into a base, but then turns it on when he has to. But now they have said his “bruised” knee is more than bruised. So, it looks like once the Brewers are ready to completely concede that they aren’t going to the playoffs, Cain will be shut down and get some procedure in his knee. In the meantime he’ll probably only be starting against lefties.
  2. I don’t think anyone would argue that if a team had to play the whole season with this lineup and the Brewers pitching they would lose over 100 games. In one game anything can happen, but this is a crappy lineup going against a quality pitcher. The Cubs have to be solid favorites.
  3. Sounds like a concussion break will be needed.
  4. The Cubs are only 2.5 games behind the Cardinals and have 7 head to head games left. I wouldn’t count them out yet. This season appears to be confirming my annual expectation that it takes about 90 wins to make the playoffs. If a team can win a division or sneak into the second wild card spot with less than 90 wins, it has been just as much lucky as good.
  5. This is pretty much where I’ve been since about the All Star break. It was pretty apparent by then that the things that had to click for the Brewers, both hitting and pitching, weren’t likely to happen. I still watch and hope for something to turn around, but the signs just never came. I can tell when I’ve entered the resignation phase because my heart doesn’t pound as much at the end of close games and I don’t get as mad when they lose tough ones.
  6. The white flag is up. Going to let Nelson get some work.
  7. Doesn’t this game highlight why the Brewers were never going to be able to put together a run of wins? Having 15 pitchers in the bullpen doesn’t help you cover 5-6 innings every night when 13 or 14 of those pitchers range from unreliable to consistently awful. The Brewers needed an elite offense to go anywhere this year and they didn’t get it. Losing Hijra and Moustakas just makes it that much tougher.
  8. Lol who would have guessed. You are right. Not sure what the point is in putting a player on the DL in September with the unlimited rosters.
  9. Maybe, technically, but IMHO it would have been the wrong call. The rule talks about dropping the ball immediately after running into a wall or falling, and he didn’t drop the ball. He seemed to take his hand out of his glove intentionally or reflexively to put his hand to his head. He had firm control of the ball before taking his hand out of his glove. The fact that the ball stayed in his glove after he took his hand out to me shows how firm his control of the ball was. Throwing a glove at the ball is something completely different and that obviously didn’t happen here.
  10. Did get help from the Nats who scored 7 in the ninth to beat the Mets 11-10. The Mets brought in their closer, Lugo, in the 8th while clinging to a 5-4 lead, but then lifted him when they scored 5 in the top of the 9th. Oops.
  11. Though he did lose to the Brewers at Miller Park both last year and the year before. I’m more concerned about the Astros lineup than Greinke. .
  12. If Yelich had just struck out swinging this game wouldn’t make me mad. But, as a fan I feel that we were robbed of a chance to see a great player decide the game instead of a crappy umpire.
  13. Please no DP here. If the Brewers are going to lose I at least want the fun of seeing Yelich get a shot.
  14. When you look at the Astros rotation and lineup they have to be a a solid favorite to win the World Series, even over the Yankees and Dodgers. Their record is pretty amazing considering some of the injuries they’ve had. If the Brewers had to play the Astros 162 times they’d be lucky to win 40. If they could win one of two this week to make it 2-2 for the season that would be a plus.
  15. I picked up Darvish yesterday as a FA yesterday for my fantasy team figuring he would get a lot of K’s against the Brewers. He probably would have had 13 in 5 innings.
  16. Now the Cubs fan bring in a bum lefty to shut down the Brewers lefty lineup. I know people said one of the good things about Grisham was his discipline at the plate. It seems to me like he takes too many strikes. Maybe his approach won’t work as well with major league pitchers who are better at hitting corners.
  17. The Brewers won their first game in Wrigley Field this year 7-0. In the 8 games there since then, counting today, they have scored a total of 10.
  18. Obviously posted before seeing the Brewers lineup. Four lefties facing Hamels with Pina batting fifth. Hiura, Cain, and Braun all out with injuries.
