  1. It takes about 10 minutes, which is why you don’t wait until it’s raining to close it
  2. Just like last night the Brewers are at bat for about 20% of the time the Padres take.
  3. Hopefully Don Orsillo can tone down his screaming on a neutral telecast. Hes one of the worst in MLB since he went to “Slam Diego”. I don’t remember him being that bad when he was with the Red Sox
  4. Now 4-0 on games attended this season. with Quintana laboring and the Brewers offense doing nothing it seemed like the Padres were at bat for about 80% of the first two hours. Then the entertainment started. A good win when it looked for the longest time that the Brewers were headed for a second consecutive shutout loss.
  5. With Skubal out of the way the Cubs are breaking out the HR whooping sticks on the Tigers today. 5 HR and they’re in the 8th.
  6. The Brewers have now had 4 weak offensive games in the 5 games since the 17 run explosion last Saturday. Hopefully they aren't headed for another putrid stretch like the one in May. Tonight's game is their 22nd scoring 2 runs or less and they are 1-21 in those games. The only NL playoff contender with close to that many games of 2 runs or less is the Padres, who now have 24. But, they are now 8-16 in those games, including 6-3 when they score exactly 2. They have the pitching to win those close, low scoring games, but the Brewers don't.
  7. You know you’re having a bad night when Martin Maldonado has as many hits as your whole team.
  8. I'm not giving up on anything or conceding anything either. But, with 100 games still to play I'm not focusing on games behind the Cubs. I'm much more focused on having the Brewers show that the last 10 games are not just a blip. While people like to point out that almost all teams have some rough spots, it's also true that most mediocre to bad teams have a short hot streak or two during the season. If the Brewers can get to something close to 90 wins they will have an excellent chance to make the playoffs, regardless of what the Cubs do. This upcoming homestand will be interesting with games against two teams currently in wild card positions and a third team that has the talent to make a run at the playoffs now that Acuna and Strider are back.
  9. I always root for the Cubs to lose, but right now I think it's pointless to focus on how far the Brewers are behind them. To this point the Cubs have been on a different plane than the Brewers. After finishing the brutal schedule they had to start the season, they have won 15 out of 20 against lesser competition and are showing no real signs of letting up. For now my focus is on the Brewers using this 9 of 10 stretch as a springboard to better and more consistent play that could at least make them serious wild card contenders..
  10. Ashby got up late when the lead got up to 9-1. Maybe he wasn’t warmed up adequately to be comfortable bringing him in. So, they stuck with Mears who was preparing to enter with a 6-1 lead, was heated up, and hadn’t pitched for a few days. At this, point Ashby might be the guy they plan to go to when they are a few runs behind, early, a position they haven’t faced for awhile
  11. This is the Brewers 21st time scoring 2 runs or less. They are 1-20 in those games. When I looked at this the other day only the 5 lowest scoring teams in MLB have more games scoring 2 or less. Scoring 17 runs in a game can be fun but it only gets you one win. For the Brewers to be successful they’re going to have to cut down on those low scoring games that virtually guarantee defeat
  12. If the Brewers lose tonight it’s because the offense has gone to sleep after the two big games in Philly.
  13. Another win with not much offense. Except for the first two games in Philly the offense has been more timely and opportunistic than proficient Those two games account for about half the hits and half of the runs scored without benefit of a free runner during the 8 game streak of course, compared to the Polar stretch of a few weeks ago, 3 runs is like an explosion
  14. The Lou Gehrig Day tribute brings back a memory for me. On July 4;1964 we were at Yankee Stadium for a doubleheader between the Yankees and Twins. They had a ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of Gehrig’s Luckiest Man speech with his widow on hand to throw out the first ball.
  15. Just saw Corbin Burnes throw a pitch and immediately signal to the bench and cuss into his glove. It looked like he said,”It’s my oblique”. Could be a long absence for him.
  16. Right. I will not conclude nothing is broken until they determine and announce that. So many small bones in that area that can be broken and cause problems. Now that he has been hitting it would really be a shame if he has to miss games in the Reds series. That’s a park where any ball hit in the air has a chance to be a homer, and yelich has flourished there.
