  1. I have mixed feelings about that. It depends on how much he would cost, and what they could get for him, but I like him as a team leader.
  2. Two guys who will be shooting for a cycle in the 8th inning (if not before).
  3. If nothing else he has earned the right to play every day for awhile.
  4. Evidence is mounting that Perez has nothing today and was just being left out there to take one for the team since they don’t have the day off tomorrow. One of the reasons I don’t get overly excited about really high scoring blowout games. They often include several runs against the dregs of the bullpen, a pitcher left in to absorb punishment and, sometimes, a position player.
  5. Not likely. Kuenn’s strength was letting a team that was loaded with hitting talent just play ball. Murphy’s situation is quite different.
  6. With Dunn going down it looks like management agrees. I just hope they didn’t decide they need another OF because of concerns about Yelich. Might be that Chourio will be going down soon.
  7. The same guy who said anything can happen in one game. 😃
  8. Not much question who the Brewers ASG representative will be this year. Too bad he probably won’t be starting.
  9. Never thought I’d see an opposite field homer from Frelick.
  10. Chourio needs to be taught to hustle to second base and slide on a play like that instead of watching the ball.
  11. Today’s lineup,is certifiably horrible. There’s not much they can do about it with Hoskins out and Yelich apparently unable to go more than a couple of days in a row. But, if they put out this lineup every day they wouldn’t win 70 games. Fortunately anything can happen in one game.
  12. That’s consistent with a general impression I’ve had about Frelick in the OF since he came up. He seems to make some plays look more difficult than they should be.
  13. Can’t afford to shut down the offense for the night like Sunday.
  14. When I see second opinion that makes me nervous. They don’t usually look for a second opinion if the first indication is positive. Did the MRI detect a tear?
  15. Have to think that the sun played a role in Yelich dropping that fly ball.
  16. I’m not saying that Murphy is a strategic genius. I am saying that there was a reason for pinch hitting in that situation that doesn’t lead to the conclusion that Monasterio should be starting over Turang against lefties.
  17. They’ve certainly looked very respectable and competitive in their 5 games against the Brewers so far. But their offense has been pretty anemic for most of the season. Their 10-9 win over the Cubs on Saturday broke a string of 23 games in which they didn’t score more than 5 runs in any game. In those 23 games they only scored 47 runs and went 6-17, wiping out an 11-5 start during which they averaged almost 5.5 runs per game. The way they pounded the ball last might it looks like the Brewers might be catching them at a bad time.
  18. The Brewers haven’t faced many LH starters this season, but for his career Turang has been less effective against LHP than RHP. So, for one isolated AB, Monasterio arguably has a better chance of getting on base and starting a rally than Turang. To start the game the analysis is significantly different. For one very important thing, Turang is an elite defender at an important position, something Monasterio is not. Having that elite defender might easily be more important than a relatively small difference in ability to get on base. But, once the team finds itself 5 or 6 runs behind, the importance of defense falls away and getting base runners takes precedence If you want you can quibble about pinch hitting for Turang at that stage of the game. But, IMHO, doing it when behind by 5 runs does not logically lead to the conclusion that Monasterio should start over Turang against left handed starters. I think the game situation significantly changes the analysis.
  19. In part because many teams have multiple significant injuries.
  20. The way the pirates are swinging this is going to be a tough series. The “easier“ May schedule isn’t playing out that way.
  21. The Orioles sent Jackson Holliday back to AAA to work on some things when he started 2 for 34. Maybe it’s time for the Brewers to do that with Chourio.
  22. Now we need a gapper from either Contreras or Yelich.
  23. Making the Pirates pay for their fielding miscues.
  24. He tried and failed yesterday but Viera is putting this one out of reach.
