    Durbin had much higher SLG and ISO at upper levels of minor leagues compared to Frelick. That must account for at least something?

    I don’t envy teams signing aging stars to expensive contracts. The Angels committed $911 million dollars to Pujols, Trout and Rendon and will have nothing to show for it. I appreciate Milwaukee would almost never be a destination for these players but it should be noted that we probably don’t want many of these aging stars on our roster, anyway. The 2023 World Series winning Texas Rangers roster is not appreciably better than ours.

    Eventually, the super teams will have hundreds of millions of dollars committed to players past their prime. I have to believe there’s a tipping point in a few years.

    But we shouldn’t want Adames on our roster for the next seven years, money aside. I expect Adames will have a nice 2025 before regressing to the point where the annual salary begins to hurt the Giants. The Brewers should not want that.

    Adames is not Giannis. In 2025, in terms of defense, Adames would be the third best option to play SS behind Turang and Ortiz. Not every free agent should be resigned by Milwaukee. I am happy the Giants believe Adames is worth $180 million. Truthfully, Adames probably is not worth that money. Especially after a few years.

    The point I’m making is we should not take Adames signing with the Giants to be a data point for grievances against how MLB is structured.

    The Brewers kept Ryan Braun his whole career. It was generally worth it until, like all players, they regress as they age. Adames plainly would not be a valuable enough Brewer over the next seven seasons to warrant $180 million. Turang and Ortiz may both have more WAR than Adames in 2025.

    All teams in other sports can expect to lose beloved players due to salary cap. In baseball, players leave because another team chooses to pay for someone’s performance to (often) regress in their 30’s. Hader did not perform like a star last year. He will likely improve in 2025 but you never know. I wish Burnes well but he has had 903 high intensity innings under his belt. His health is not guaranteed. Prince Fielder put up almost zero WAR for Texas over three years. I am excited for Adames and don’t mind most of how MLB is structured.

    The Brewers are not victims for choosing to not spend $180 million on Adames. Or being unable to spend that money on a SS that will already be 30 years old next season. We should not want to sign this star to that contract.

    Soccer fans don’t seem to get fed up with specific clubs being able to afford mega contracts and others can’t. If they are, it is not affecting revenue.

    Spending hundreds of millions of dollars on Verlander, Scherzer, Rendon, Giancarlo Stanton or Bogarts (2024) is not often a good use of money. Nor is it wise to pay 37 year old Jacob DeGrom for 20 innings per year.

    The Brewers won 93 games last year and probably could have won 93 games without Montas’ 0.0 WAR in Milwaukee. The Mets signing Montas is not indicative that wholesale changes are required to MLB.

    Given the revenue generated by all teams, Is $500,000 per start from Montas that much of an overpay? He’ll probably provide multiple wins above replacement level.

    Montas had 4.55 ERA over 57.1 IP in Milwaukee. He had a nice August but probably won’t be worth that money in 2025 to the Brewers, anyway. I bet Montas improves some in 2025, though.

    MLB.com just mentioned Frelick had only three barrels in 400 batted balls this year. That seems historically low.

    November 29, 2016 Brewers sign 1B/OF Eric Thames Thames produced 2.8 WAR over three seasons in Milwaukee, including 31 HR in 2017.

    November 28, 2021 Brewers sign P Jason Alexander. Alexander had 3.82 ERA after 30.2 IP in June 2022. He ultimately ended the year with -0.8 WAR. Sort of feels like he was better than that but he got lit up at times as a reliever. At 31 years old, he pitched in Triple-A last year for the Red Sox.

    November 27, 2019 Brewers receive: Eric Lauer and Luis Urias Padres receive: Zach Davies and Trent Grisham ### What a roller coaster trade. Ultimately, maybe an even trade unless you think Grisham has been extra valuable. Davies pitched well for SD in 2020 but hasn’t since. He might be done at age 31. Grisham strings together decent seasons but I don’t think we miss him too much. Lauer is in Korea now. Urias is fascinating. After 3+ WAR seasons in 2021 and 2022, he is now a journeyman by age 27.

    Goldschmidt competing with Hoskins for ABs could be healthy. If Hoskins is entering a contract year, he will be extra dialed in - especially, if he is not guaranteed plate appearances?
