  1. Do this year’s Oakland A’s have what it takes to break the 1962 Mets’ record of 120 losses in a single season? Currently on pace for 134 losses.
  2. Dodgers seem like they are in a funk. They do not seem like world beaters to me.
  3. He was, for a spot start while Marco Gonzales is on paternity leave. Looks like he pitched well for his one game. Then, DFA’d
  4. I see LHP Marco Gonzales is on paternity leave and could conceivably pitch in game three for a Seattle but that seems like a short leave.
  5. I’m glad we miss Luis Castillo in Seattle. I also noticed 36-year old LHP Tommy Milone was otherwise in-line to be the starting pitcher in game three, until he was designated for assignment. Almost seems like poor scouting to DFA Milone before the Milwaukee series. Milone had 1.93 ERA in his one 4.2 IP start last week.
  6. If any of the guys we received from the trade become above average, I will be fine with the trade. We did not need Renfroe and his salary in 2023 or beyond.
  7. Renfroe went 0-3 with 2 K today, lowering his OPS to .869. Brewers win the trade.
  8. Also, the Cubs nearly swept the Dodgers in Los Angeles…
  9. Credit the Cardinals for a big win today. Contreras had a full count in the 10th inning and drew a one out walk. It could easily have been two outs, trailing by a run. Cardinals narrowly avoid falling to 6-10. Instead, 7-9 and they host the Diamondbacks this week.
  10. If the season ended today, the Brewers, Cubs and Pirates would be in the playoffs. Yes, 90% of the season remains but still an ounce remarkable.
  11. Baez with .328 OPS and -7 OPS+ in 41 AB this year. Four more seasons left on his contract. Over $24 M AAV.
  12. How has Frelick looked in his first 43 AB this year? Very few strikeouts but not much else. Hiura seems to be doing what he does. Blake Perkins seems to be performing, too.
  13. Pirates playing with swagger as they shutout the last-place Cardinals in Saint Louis, 5-0.
  14. Jose Urena starts today for Colorado against Saint Louis. Urena has a WHIP of nearly 4 in 5 IP over his first two starts.
  15. 37-year old Carlos Santana drives in 36-year old Andrew McCutchen, 1-0 early lead for Pirates. McCutchen with .946 OPS through 21 AB.
  16. Starting a thread for NL Central chatter: Pirates on their way to 5-2 start. Buy or sell: Pittsburgh finishing third in the NL Central with record above .500?
  17. Cardinals Manager reiterates criticism of own player
  18. Trouble in Saint Louis? Cards' Oliver Marmol rips Tyler O'Neill's 'unacceptable' effort
  19. What a strange simulated year for Corbin Burnes.
  20. I hope we can avoid a repeat of last year’s opening day and opening series: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN202204070.shtml
  21. Are they? Should they be? I realize the Cardinals won the division last year but other than 1B and 3B, is Saint Louis clearly better than Milwaukee in any other area? We both have Contreras at catcher, so that’s a push? 🙂
  22. I am curious how ZiPS sees us three wins worse than last year. I think it is conceivable our offense and pitching is equal or greater than it was last year.
  23. Does Devin Williams call his pitch a change up? Your explanation makes total sense on why it is a screwball.
  24. In fairness to Mark Kotsay, he never should have been put in that position.
