Right-hander Michael King has made three career starts against Milwaukee. The Brewers have won all three games despite King being quite effective in two of the three starts. King allowed just one hit over 6 IP against the Cardinals in his previous start. Jacob Misiorowski makes his first career start against San Diego. Miguel Andujar is the only Padre to have previously faced Miz and is 2-2 against him, two singles.

Ortiz raised his OPS from .443 to .505.

We know Bauers has .874 OPS against RHP this season and .536 OPS against LHP. Vaughn hits LHP way better than Bauers. Bauers can reasonably be expected to hit better against RHP today.

For being only 30 years old, Lauer sure does yo-yo between being pretty good and terrible. His FIP has usually been underwhelming.

For all the ups and downs, Milwaukee is only a half-game back of the final National League Wild Card spot. Here is a recap of three of the best thread topics from the past week: Brewers: Individual Over/Underperforming expectation The return of Andrew Vaughn and Jackson Chourio could be a turning point for the 2026 season. Until now, the Brewers are ninth in the league in runs scored despite playing fewer games than everyone else. On the pitching side, only three teams have allowed fewer runs than Milwaukee. In aggregate, those team numbers seem to meet or exceed expectations. But how about the individual players? Our community agrees that most players are performing at or above expectations. Brice Turang’s early pace for nearly 10 bWAR likely qualifies as an overperformance, even for those who entered the season with high expectations. Sal Frelick was the most frequently cited underperformer, despite clawing his way back to replacement level in terms of bWAR. Milwaukee and New York have nearly identical batting averages on-base percentages. Yankees have way more power, though. Team OPS of .794. Plus, Spencer Jones will likely make his big league debut this weekend. source

The Brewers touched up Max Fried for six runs, including two earned runs, during his previous start against Milwaukee. That said, the Brewers still lost that game, 20-9. The outcome might have been different had the Crew limited the Yankees to fewer than nine home runs that day. 🙂 Jacob Misiorowski makes his eight start of the season and looks to regain the major league lead in strikeouts. Do we need another right-handed outfielder this weekend? Chourio and Lockridge. Mitchell, Frelick, Bauers and Black are all left-handed and could not reasonably be expected to perform well. Mitchell has cooled off considerably as of late..

Looking ahead to the Yankees series… Max Fried, LHP Cam Schmitter, best RHP in AL Carlos Rodon, LHP

Montas pitched into the 6th inning or later in 7 of 11 regular season starts for Milwaukee. Montas averaged more than 5 IP per start. The Brewers were 8-3 when Montas started. 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R against STL on 8/20/24 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R against SF on 9/12/24 Plus, two 10 K outings. He walked too many guys but flashed some goodness. That crazy game in late September against Arizona where Montas allowed 7 ER in 2.2 IP but Milwaukee still won 10-9 made things look bad.

Those are great points. That was a very fast regression to expectations for Cincinnati. Still significantly over performing their Pythagorean record.

Outfield seems full with Mitchell, Chourio, Bauers and Frelick. Probably an opportunity for ABs against LHP, though. Williams and Leonard are RHB and Lara switch hits. I don’t think the team has tired of Rengifo, Hamilton or Ortiz yet in the infield. Williams has the advantage of playing 3B, SS and OF.

This is oddly comforting for a team that has the fewest wins in the division 🙂 Is it too early for worrying the Pirates currently own the tiebreaker over Milwaukee?

I wonder if this is how Cubs fans felt about Milwaukee last year…Cubs bullpen blows lead in the ninth, PCA ties it up in bottom of the ninth and then Cubs get a walk off walk in the 10th..,

Fair points. I believe the thinking was Junis was fragile and required extra rest between bullpen appearances. Montas is a starter with a higher ceiling.
