Same as opening day, partially expected Chourio to bat ninth. I guess that’s why I’m not a manager

Royals are throwing LHP Kris Bubic against Milwaukee for home opener. We have not seen him since 2021. In his 11.1 IP he has 11 K, 2 hits and no runs allowed against Brewers. Granted, there’s nobody on our roster today that was around back then aside from Yelich.

A closer look against our victory over the Braves on 5/18/22. The damage against Fried came from Tyrone Taylor, Rowdy Tellez and Mike Brosseau. This is also the game historians call the ‘Keston Hiura game’’. An 11th inning walk off against RHP Jesse Chavez.

Hoskins has .604 career OPS against Fried over 29 AB Yelich has .440 career OPS against Fried over 17 AB Thankfully, no one else on the roster has had AB against Fried

We last faced Max Fried on 5/18/22 in Milwaukee. Fried allowed 7 H, 2 BB and 3 ER over 6 IP Besides that Fried has predictably been effective against the Brewers.

Unrelated note: Anthony Rizzo is still unsigned. Rizzo produced a .735 OPS during his four year stint in New York. it rarely makes sense to want to sign a player for their entire career. The Cubs exited at the right time.

Do we expect Paul Goldschmidt will have a meaningful improvement in his age 37 season? I was surprised to see his 1.3 wins above replacement level last year. It sure felt like less.
