    .876 OPS this spring .761 OPS last spring as a team .782 in 2023 .741 in 2022 is there something different about the baseball this season? The 110 point bump in team OPS seems significant.

    I cannot remember another spring training where nearly every starting position player has an OPS above 1000 seemingly. Milwaukee leads all of baseball with a .876 team OPS in spring training

    The Cubs have a brutal opening month of the season. They could be meaningfully below .500 entering May. Even the A’s series could be tough.     Cubs take 1-0 lead against Dodgers. Counsell goes to bullpen after 4 innings of zero hits from Imanaga. Four walks allowed though.. After a stomach bug (Betts) and rib soreness (Freeman), the Dodgers lineup doesn’t seem too tough.

    Does Yelich know he is expected to be the primary DH? I’ve only ever seen stories saying Christian prefers playing in the field.

    I’m willing to bet our pitching lab does a good job minimizing elbow and shoulder strain but at the expense of obliques.

    The Brewers have won six straight spring training games. Even though it is inconsequential, it does feel good seeing the hitting and run prevention performing well last week. .

    Oblique injuries seem common to all teams. There is a lot of rotational force for hitting and pitching. Players strength train their legs to a much higher level than ever before and it seems that abdominal/core/oblique muscles have a hard time keeping up with the force being generated by legs. I am not a doctor, though.     Our hard hit rates and EV allowed by Milwaukee pitchers last year was pretty average from what I can tell.

    Looking closer at 2024 team stats, they sure are unfavorable to Brewer pitching. FIP and PRAA, etc. Our BABIP allowed was #4 in baseball…which I assume is defense and luck. Still, when we had Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta the Brewers were considered an elite pitching team. Now we have Peralta, Woodruff (mostly) and a cast of other talented arms and we are now just the ‘defense’ team. That might be true, I suppose 🤷‍♂️

    Fair. I trust there are stats for this but is every other pitching staff throwing in front of bad defenses? The Brewers bullpen isn’t very good?

    Anyone hopeful the Cubs are 0-2 by the time we finish breakfast on Wednesday? Will the Pirates have their customary ‘fast start’ before fading fast? Are the Reds ready to be above .500? Has anyone heard from the Cardinals?

    I appreciate MLB.com rankings are meaningless. However, it seems MLB.com barely has Milwaukee with a ‘top 15’ pitching staff. The Brewers had the fifth best team ERA in baseball last year. If the Tigers and Guardians didn’t have so many games against the White Sox, I believe Milwaukee would have had the third best team ERA in baseball. Yes, we lost 21.2 innings of Devin Williams, but added Nestor Cortes in a contract year. Plus, Woodruff might be healthy and I feel like we have even more talented arms that will contribute in 2025. Can Brewer pitching be even better than last year? link
