  1. Why would a top tier team desire a 91 OPS+ outfielder and a 105 ERA+ pitcher? We can produce those numbers and more for quite a bit less salary.
  2. What if they find a better way to spend the $6 million?
  3. Nearly a full win below replacement level last year. 🤷‍♂️
  4. That is smart. I wonder if fans will be able to defer their expenses over several years.
  5. I agree. Not that it should matter a ton but perhaps there is also a little bit of boosting the psyche of Brewers fans that we don’t always trade our pending free agents.
  6. In fair to Neugebauer, he was #17 prospect in baseball for 2002, per Baseball America. Ahead of Josh Hamilton, Adam Wainwright, Brandon Phillips and Justin Morneau. https://www.thebaseballcube.com/content/prospects_mlb/2002~BA/
  7. That will be $11.50
  8. Sometimes top prospects end up being Nick Neugebauer, Lewis Brinson or Jose Capellan. Burnes won Cy Young in 2021 and provides the organization the best bite at the apple opportunity we have for the near future.
  9. Do they still sell chorizo inside the park?
  10. We had an obvious replacement for Hader’s 55 IP per year. We do not have equal replacement for Burnes’ 200 IP.
  11. We did not trade Prince Fielder, I expect we won’t trade Burnes, either. I think Corbin is smarter about the business of baseball today and he will pitch to his highest potential during his final season
  12. Mitchell should not be on the MLB bench for Opening Day. Maybe against a lefty but still…
  13. Will Smith was barely above replacement level last year. Hunter Renfroe was below replacement level last year. Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo both pitched in the most extreme pitchers park in San Diego last year. Regression should be expected. The Royals are not expected to be competitive as a result of these signings. They might not even improve their 2024 record by all that much.
  14. Is not trading Burnes or Williams equivalent to addition by not subtracting?
  15. I think loading up on quantity of promising bullpen arms is just a Brewers thing to do and not necessarily indicative of a desire to offload Devin.
  16. Is there evidence the Brewers want to deal Devin Williams? I genuinely think Milwaukee wants to win the division in 2024. Not in an ‘all in’ sort of way, though, of course. $6.5 M for the best reliever in the NL is a reasonable investment. Especially when we don’t have an obvious lock down closer replacement. It probably made sense to trade Hader when we did. We could have handled the process better, though. When we traded Hader, it was obvious who our next closer would be. If the package is great, I’m sure the Brewers are open to trading most players, I suppose.
  17. Fun fact: Lugo rarely pitches more than 100 IP per season. Usually far less than 100 IP. 2023 was his career high with 146.1 IP. In fairness, 2023 was his first time as full-time starter since 2017.
  18. Baseball is so popular that there are billions of dollars spent on it each year. We can watch and measure every baseball game from countless angles, 365 days per year. I suppose it’s fair for one the best hitters and pitchers (who is the same person) to receive $700 million when the value he brings to his organization is actually probably more than that. I’m not sure I’d want to go back to a time when I couldn’t watch 99% of Brewers games live on tv. Or, from my phone.
  19. Martin Maldonado is available now, since Astros signed Caratini. Maldonado is 37 years old.
  20. In seriousness, probably a good signing.
  21. Burnes, Peralta, Miley, Houser, Rea, Ashby, Gasser Seems like a rotation that can win the division. It pretty much was our rotation when Woodruff was hurt April through July.
  22. Is Adames an elite SS that meaningfully increases trade value? His offense in 2023 was more like Tommy Edman than Bogarts or Lindor.
  23. Who would possibly blow us away with Adames offer? I suppose Adames had 10th best OPS among qualified SS but I can’t expect a .717 OPS yields a lot of prospects.
  24. 2024 should be another bite at the apple. Burnes in a contract year should be exciting to watch. Can always trade him at the deadline.
