  1. Very much this. We’ve also reached the point where from past experience I am pretty much expecting the worst from any full season types who haven’t had their names appear on the minor league lineups or guys brought over to big league camp (glad to cross Carra and a couple others off that list today).
  2. Unless something has changed, I believe Rule 5 eligibility is determined strictly by signing date. I think it at least used to be that the cutoff was the end of the season for the level you were assigned to, but I am not sure if they changed that when they shifted the ACL season.
  3. We are flying out to Arizona today. Literally going from having a blizzard in western Illinois yesterday to 100+ degree heat. That is going to be an adjustment.
  4. Yah, if you’re going beyond the 2025 signing class, Freider Rojas was also in the lineup. I wish they would have released the minor league spring training roster. It was always fun to scour it for a Miqueas Mercedes-type surprise.
  5. Yah, I am a Jones skeptic. I looked up the list of guys who have posted 35% K-rates at AAA since Fangraphs has had minor league stats. If you include only guys who did it when they were still rising prospects instead of former MLBers trying to hang on, I think Gallo has more WAR than the rest of them put together. Let’s put it this way, if Keon Broxton qualified (he didn’t because his came after his primary big league time), he would have been second behind Gallo in career WAR. Eric Haase is in the top 4.
  6. Today ruined it, but I think prior to taking the field today, the Brewers’ prospective MLB and AAA pitching staffs had a sub-1.00 ERA this spring.
  7. I probably would go C+. B+ for value, D+ for roster fit.
  8. It really is at this point just Durbin and a guy Fangraphs had ranked 32nd in their system who is still in A ball. They salary dumped Hicks, and May, who they got for Tibbs, left. They did get out of the contract.
  9. One day later, this still seems fine value wise but weird roster construction wise. I could definitely see the Brewers viewing Durbin as a regression candidate, but doing this without a backup plan for now if Williams isn’t ready is odd.
  10. This was the Super Bowl this NFL season deserved. I literally spent a drive and a half reading MLBTradeRumors’ retrospective on the Harold Baines-Sammy Sosa deal.
  11. It could also be a hedge in case they end up needing a roster spot and lose one of the projected AAA outfielders to waivers before the season begins.
  12. To you, sorry. The podcast just reminded me that these guys missed the season.
  13. The minor league recap podcasts reminded me about a couple of guys. Do you have any information on two players who haven’t pitched stateside but had some hype upon signing: Dalvin Bodre and Luis Aguayo?
  14. I still wonder if Ashby isn’t plan A if they think he can handle the workload. Guys who can get that many strikeouts and that many ground balls are rare. I think his worst ground ball rate, even back when he was getting legitimate starts, was better than Priester last season.
  15. I think that explanation is fair. It feels less negative than I typically view falling out of favor. I view Pratt’s season more as plateauing. He wasn’t overwhelmed as one of the younger players at AA, but he also didn’t really answer the biggest question about him. As I look more as the prospect lists come out, I might have him seventh in the system, but that says more about my tendency to overrate pitching than Pratt.
  16. Are we sure that Pratt and Lara are starting at AAA, though? I mean, they both feel a bit like bubble guys for an immediate promotion given last year's OK, but not exceptional performances with the bat.
  17. If I remember correctly, Adams, Fischer, Lara and Adamczewski made the 101-200 list, giving Milwaukee 12 of the top 200.
  18. I wouldn’t hate starting Pratt at AA. I don’t know that he needs an abundance of additional shortstop reps based upon the scouting reports, so him being on the short end of a 70/30 split with Made and playing elsewhere in the infield the rest of the time shouldn’t set him back. I am still optimistic because of his youth and frame, but the power does have to come. I also wonder if the Southern League effect is being overstated by half for Biloxi. I have read that their stadium is kind of the exception and if I remember correctly the home/road splits for Pratt, Wilken, Adams, Pratt and Lara kind of bear that out.
  19. I think he still gets the backup job, but this at least keeps a 40-man spot in play until he needs to be added.
  20. I wonder if this is it or if they will end up inviting a few more pitchers, either AAA relievers or maybe a AA starter like Hardin.
  21. Am I forgetting a list, or is that the first Bishop Letson sighting?
  22. For what it is worth, I think Longenhagen at Fangraphs said that if Sproat can get his 2024 changeup back, he thinks he’s a better prospect than Tong.
  23. If the reports of what the Nationals turned down from the Giants are accurate, I am not sure I would get into a bidding war here, especially for someone whose breakout season was roughly as impactful as 2024 Joey Ortiz. You really have to be banking on him finding another gear to give up a lot of value.
  24. The problem is, it would probably have to be a more complex 3-teamer to meet the Red Sox’s objectives (like the Brewers being the third team in a deal that moves Abrams to Boston or something like that).
  25. I feel whelmed I guess. It seems like an acceptable value but also the minimum acceptable value.
