  1. In just looking at Anderson's stats from last year - he would be an interesting, lower cost SP option. Not a strike out pitcher, so I guess I'd be a bit concerned about whether or not we could put a good defensive team behind him when he pitches to contact, but I was impressed to see that his road splits were actually better than his home splits last year.
  2. This is the type of trade suggestion I expected to see throughout this thread. Likely a bit too much for Hader, but in my mind, a lot closer than anything the Yankees would be offering. I can't see the Dodgers giving up both Seager and Lux in the same deal (even if they had Urias coming back). I think we'd have to settle for either one of Seager/Lux, May and Ruiz/Gray for a Hader/Urias package.
  3. I just can't imagine DS headlining a deal for Hader around a 16 year old - and it sounds like that's the only real high-end value that the Yankees could really bring to the table. We are also in a "win now" mode, so I've got to think that any package for Hader needs to include a couple of high-end prospects (or controllable MLB guys) that would fill current holes on our MLB roster. And, one of those guys would have to be in the "can't miss" category. Otherwise, you hold onto Hader and continue to utilize him as one of the best and most unique relief assets in baseball.
  4. I know Boyd was one of the "hot" names at the deadline last summer, and in looking at his overall numbers from last year - he must have really struggled in the 2nd half of the season (after the deadline). Gave up 39 home runs to lead baseball in that category, and looks like his ERA really ballooned as well. Not sure how much I'd feel comfortable giving up for a guy like that? Yeah, he K's a bunch of guys, but some of the other numbers leave a lot to be desired.
  5. Propose your own trade(s) then. Mets SP Noah Syndergaard OF Brandon Nimmo 3B Brett Baty (min) Yankees SP Luis Severino C Anthony Seigler (min) Dodgers SP Julio Urias SP Dustin May Urias would be intriguing, but I'm guessing the Dodgers have big plans in 2020 to add him into the rotation? Does anyone know for sure what they are thinking with Urias? And, would he still be considered "off limits" for them to trade?
  6. The problem is - we have no idea currently how good Knebel is going to be when he comes back. And, it sounds like they aren't going to rush him back for the start of the season. So I don't think it's logical at this point to count on Knebel pitching any high leverage innings for us until June - and that's assuming that all goes well and he's back to his old form (again - a huge question mark right now). So, if we do trade Hader - we better start looking at making some late inning reliever acquisitions.
  7. Yeah, I would think that this could be a real win/win if we can get him back on a minor league deal. Would not mind seeing that happen at all.
  8. In those three scenarios - I would definitely favor the Mets or the Dodgers packages. I doubt we get all three of those guys from LA though. You're asking for 3 Top 100 prospects, and I just can't see any team giving that up for a reliever - even one as dominant as Hader. I honestly don't know who the Yankees could offer us in a package that would entice me enough if I were DS? Just too many questions marks with all of their young players.
  9. With the addition of Wacha and Porcello, doesn't this type of deal make a bit more sense now with the Mets? Lowrie, Thor and Dom Smith for Hader? Mets would still have a really solid rotation with deGrom, Stroman, Matz, Wacha and Porcello. They don't have room for Smith with Alonso manning 1B for the next 5+ years, and this would get them out of the Lowrie contract. I guess the big question would be - how does Lowrie bounce back from the injury in 2020 and can he play 3B adequately for us? And, are we confident that Dom Smith is going to be a high-level 1B in this league? The more and more I think about this offer - the more doubts I think I'd have about Lowrie and Smith. We'd be relying on two big question marks then at 3B and 1B, and I doubt we'd be willing to do that heading into a year where we are trying to compete. Also, you'd have some question marks with Thor coming off of a pretty blah year for him. Not sure if I'd do this deal for Hader? I might be more interested in it if they replaced Dom Smith with JD Davis - assuming that Davis can play a decent 1B. I think Dom Smith would hold more appeal to the Brewers, as his left-handed power may play up a bit better than Davis's right-handed bat in Miller Park ... although Davis has proven more at the big league level. Good point. If DS feels confident enough in Dom Smith, this would be an interesting deal to pull off. Of course, we have no idea if the Mets would even be willing to trade Thor at this point though?

  12. And yet, more rumors that do not involve the Brewers. I almost hate this Winter Meetings week each year, because I go into it with these big expectations (I know....stupid) that the Brewers will do something big - and most years, nothing ever seems to happen at all. I know that conversations are had that may turn into something a week or a month down the road, but it just seems like we rarely make any major moves during this week. Sorry - just an antsy and impatient fan!
  13. I saw the report this morning that the Rockies are at least having conversations regarding Nolen Arenado. So, my question is - would you want him and his enormous contract? And, what would it take to get him? With the Urias trade, we could technically use him as a trade piece now. But, I would imagine that we'd have a hard time putting a competitive trade offer together for him. Would Urias, Peralta, Small, Rasmussen pique their interest enough? I also see that he has an opt-out after the '21 season, so that could impact things as well. But boy - that's 35M for one player, and I'm pretty sure that would be a major road block for a small market team like the Brewers.
  14. Boy, that's a really depressing list of names, isn't it! I know we've won with similar guys in our rotation the past couple of years, but if we were to just add a couple of guys from this grouping it would feel pretty bleak heading into the 2020 season. Especially when you consider that it's very likely that our offensive production takes a hit after losing two of our key cogs from '19 in Grandal and Moose (and it's not looking very optimistic that we will be able to make up near that production with the way the F/A market is shaping out for us this winter).
  15. Yeah, I'd definitely be on board with this if it was just the 17M for one year. But, I'm guessing that the vesting option for 2021 will ultimately scare most teams away. Unless of course if the Yankees want to also send some of that money back to us (but then we are likely getting a lesser prospect package).
  16. Is it sad that I had no idea who Mike Ford and Mike Tauchman were? Then, I go look them up on Baseball Reference and see that both guys got some decent action with the Yankees last year and put up some solid numbers. Are those numbers sustainable though? Neither guys looks like he was that highly thought of coming up through their farm system.
  17. I wouldn't mind this as an option to fill our 1B needs, but is this guy going to be any better than Thames? If not, then why don't we just try to bring ET back on a cheaper deal for 2020? As we've seen in past years, the market for slugging 1B isn't typically robust - so it seems like it could be doable to bring ET back, and get similar (if not better) production out of him than this Tsutsugo guy. Am I way off base in this thinking? Also, I'm a bit concerned that this guy's numbers have fallen each of the past 4 years, and the article also says that he's more suited for OF than 1B.
  18. Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Lyles come back on something like a 2-year/$10-12 million deal. I'd love to see it, actually. In my opinion, it was a pretty big mistake not picking up his option last offseason. That said, if he's their biggest starting pitching move this offseason, fans might show up at Brewers On Deck in January with torches and pitchforks. With Hamels just signing a 1 year 18M deal with the Braves, do we think that we can get Lyles for 2 years 10-12M? He doesn't have near the track record that Hamels does (obviously), but with players getting more money this winter than the previous two - I just wonder if that type of deal will get it done for Lyles now? Are we looking more at a 2 year 16-18M type offer?
  19. I would do either of these in a heartbeat. Vaughn reminds me of Hiura (excellent plate approach) and is immediately the 1B of the future to go with Hiura at 2B and (hopefully) Urias at SS. Kopech or Cease are TOR talent type pitchers. For this package, I would gladly sacrifice some 2020 wins. EDIT: Then there is this: If 2020 is all in, let's take advantage and give them the best reliever on the market. Man what will the White Sox payroll be? Going to jump over 200mil in a heartbeat to go from a 70ish win team to WS contender overnight? Jeesh. Que Cease+ for Hader. Giolito, Nova,Wheeler clearly now, +1more FA signing. The insanity of their moves would lead me to think Cease and a top 3 in their minors, +plus is not out of the realm here. There's no doubt that the White Sox would seemingly make a lot of sense here. A team that is constantly overshadowed in their own city (especially over the past 4-5 years with the Cubs success and WS title), and a team that is clearly now seeing an opportunity to compete with some of their young players now up in the Majors and also an opportunity to at least steal back some of the front page headlines from the Cubs. I think I'd do cartwheels if we could get a Cease & Vaughn package from them for Hader.
  20. I like the creativity here in your thinking, but I too would argue that we just wouldn't have the prospects to make this type of deal happen - even if we are picking up the majority of his contract. Like others have mentioned though, I would not mind seeing us make a serious run at Rendon - and it would be even better if there was an opt-out after year 2 where he could hit the open market again if he felt as if he could get more elsewhere. Make that happen Stearns!
  21. A couple of questions on this trade package idea: Is Robert expected to be up with the White Sox early in the 2020 season? I see that they currently don't have much at CF and in RF, so my guess is that they are probably going to hold an OF spot for Robert in 2020, which probably makes him an "untouchable" piece. Also, is Collins decent defensively behind the plate, or is he being projected more as a 1B? Looks like he put up some good offensive numbers this past year at AAA, so obviously his value would be pretty high if he could stick at C.
  22. Meh. This package from the Rays would do very little to get me excited if I were DS. Granted, I don't have full evaluations of some of these guys, but in this package I think you'd be putting all of your marbles in the Honeywell basket and hoping that he returns to form following his injury. That might be too much of a risk for the Brewers when parting with a stud like Hader. If we are dealing with the Rays for Hader, how about we get creative and go with a Hader & Arcia package for Adames & Honeywell? I'm guessing the Rays say "no" to that deal, but they might eventually need to part with either Adames or Lowe in another year to make room for Wander Franco. And Honeywell might still be a bit of a wildcard, and they seemingly have young stud SP coming out of their ears in that organization - so maybe they'd be willing to part with the one that's coming off of an injury?
  23. Switching gears a bit back to the Dodgers. There are still reports out there that they are hot after Rendon. If that's the case, could it be possible that they would be willing to trade Seager? How about a Seager/May package for Hader? If not Seager, how about a Turner/May/Ruiz package - that would allow them to shed some $$ in order to then sign Rendon? We'd have Turner on the books for 2020, but then that 20M would come off along with Braun after next season.
  24. Can't imagine there's any way this happens, especially after we just traded Grisham last week and with Braunie coming off the books after this season. All of a sudden, we'll be losing a lot of that OF depth that we once had. And as others have already mentioned, no team is going to want 3 more years of Cain with his contract numbers. I'd imagine that we'd have to pick up a pretty big % of what he is owed to make any type of a deal.
  25. No doubt it would. And, the Crew would have their infield locked in for the next 5+ years with young studs at each position - Davis, Keston, Urias and McNeil. Braunie comes off the books after this season, and then you would think that we'd have enough $$ to make a run at locking up Yeli and then spending some of that freed up cash on pitching help. I have no idea if the Mets would entertain parting with both of those guys, but as we've already noted - it would have to take a lot to get Hader. And, with the Brewers in a compete now mode as well, we aren't going to be willing to just accept prospects. Need guys with at least a bit of a track record at the MLB level that can also fill holes of our own. This type of deal would certainly do that.
