  1. Well, Semian just went yard in their playoff game today, so maybe I might change my tune on him!! Ha.
  2. While I like the idea of Semian, I do have my doubts on whether he's worth the 3 years 39M - at least for a team like the Brewers? He's been a solid offensive player throughout his career, but that 2019 season really sticks out as somewhat of an anomaly. In fact, I think we are starting to see that with a bunch of guys around the league who had career years last year (see Narvaez) due to the "juiced" baseball. So, that would scare me a bit with a guy like Semian and giving him a 3 year deal like that.
  3. Yep - the two teams that I really would like to deal Hader to would be the White Sox or Twins, as I think both teams match up great with good talent (that is close to the Majors) at positions of need. Would love to get Kirilloff back as a centerpiece from Twins and likewise with Vaughn from the Sox. Let's hope that both of those two teams get bounced early this week from the playoffs, and that might help motivate them to put together a good package for Hader this winter. I see that the Twins gave up 3 runs in the 9th yesterday in game 1, but I didn't see how it happened. Looks like an error might have been involved that allowed all of those runs to score? If so...damn. Was hoping for a pen meltdown!

  5. The other thing to consider in this series: the next round doesn't start until Tuesday (why the long layoff - I have no idea?), so even the winner of this series doesn't have to worry that much about having enough pitching available for game 1 of the divisional series.
  6. Oh man....can you imagine a D Will, Pom, Hader trio in the back end of our pen this year? Get a lead through 5 and you shut the door.
  7. I don't think I'd pitch Lauer in game 1, but I might consider him if we get to a game 3 in this series. Would I feel good about it? NO. But, it's hard to ignore the numbers he put up against the Dodgers while pitching with SD. But, you'd absolutely have to have the pen up and ready in case if Lauer looks like the guy we've seen in a Brewers uniform the past two months.
  8. I'm with you 100% here. We have to hope that Suter can get three clean innings to start off the game, and then I'd really be tempted to bring in Topa if I were CC. Topa has really been impressive in his recent outings, and I like the velocity change that would occur between Suter and him. It wouldn't shock me to see CC go with Freddy after Suter, but he did just throw 50+ pitches on Sunday and wasn't overly sharp - so that leads me to think we might go in a different direction. I'm not sure if we could get Topa through 2 innings, so I think I'd have either Yardley or Claudio ready to go depending on if we have LH or RH bats coming up in inning 5. If we can somehow come out of inning number 5 with a lead, I would not be shocked at all to see CC try to get D Will the 6th and 7th, and then ride Hader for the 8th and 9th. This is a risky proposition to try to get two innings out of each of those guys, but I think you have to go all-in to win game 1 with your ace scheduled to go game 2.
  9. I'm sure they've probably been discussed quite a bit in the first 63 pages of this thread - but I'm going to bring them up again. The Phillies have got to be desperate for bullpen help this winter after they saw another playoff opportunity get completely blown up by their terrible bullpen. So, my question for everyone here is: what would you need from them in a Hader deal? Personally, the only guy in their system that I really love is Alec Bohm, and my guess is that he might be untouchable now after his great rookie year this year. Most of their other prospects seem 2-3 years away, and I just don't think DS is going to move Hader for a bunch of young prospects. I think he's going to want multiple guys that can help right away (or soon) like the one suggested above from the Dodgers. With that said though - I'd have to think the Phillies would be desperate this offseason to get a guy like Hader on their roster.
  10. Agree with much that has already been said. County Stadium is my childhood, so the memories I have of that place are really special. I'll never forget that scene walking up through the tunnel and seeing the beautiful green grass of County Stadium. I was just in awe of that place as a kid. Miller Park is great, and is everything that County Stadium wasn't (which admittedly is a lot). But, County Stadium will always have my heart and will always be the place where I become a diehard Brewers fan.
  11. But he looked so terrible for the Phillies that there is no way that they pick up that option, and he isn't going to come close to making that on the open market. I wonder if Stearns would consider a second go-around with Phelps? At the right price, why not? Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe he'll turn into our next Jordan Lyles? The guy that only seems to pitch well when he's wearing a Brewers uniform? Then, maybe we can flip him again next July for a few more lottery ticket arms! Might be worth a try?
  12. At first I thought it was being reported that he was done for the season, but now I'm seeing some reports that he could be back if we were to advance a couple of rounds into the playoffs? But, let's be honest - no way this team is advancing a couple of rounds, so probably safe to say his season is over. Please refrain from honesty in this thread, unless you are honestly optimistic. Ha ha! My bad! I forgot that I was posting in the "optimism" thread.
  13. A year ago I probably would have scoffed at this proposal, but honestly - I'd sign up for this type of package now as I just don't think we are going to get that huge prospect haul like we all hoped we would get. In fact, a package of Gonsolin, Rios and Busch might get laughed at by the Dodgers front office, as they may not even want to give up that much for a reliever (even one that's been as good as Hader). I think we have to hope that Josh has a great series this week against the Dodgers, just to remind them of how good he can be. Then, I think we have to hope the Dodgers blow another opportunity to win it all over the next month - with their pen showing it's warts. If those things happen, maybe we could get them to do a deal like this?

  15. I can't imagine any way Stearns is going to throw 3 years and 57M at a guy in Turner that is in his mid 30's. I don't think we are going to have that type of money to spend, and it just doesn't seem like a DS move anyway. And, Walker seems way too risky for a team like the Brewers to throw that type of money at. If we know one thing by now it's that DS is not going to get involved with the top-tier F/A starting pitchers. Profar though would seem to fit well into the profile of a guy that DS loves. Up the middle guys that can play multiple positions, and guys that are heading into their prime years. Profar fits all of those things. Now, the question would be - could he be had at a price that the Brewers would value him at, or will another team overspend for him?
  16. Now that the regular season is complete, I figured it was worth the time to revisit this deadline deal. Man, how great does this deal look now? Phelps simply implodes for the Phillies after the trade, and literally helps the Brewers make the playoffs with his performance there. Meanwhile, the Crew gets three lottery ticket arms (hopefully we cash in on one of these guys), and yet we still sneak into the playoffs over the Phillies. We all know that many of the moves DS made this past offseason did not pan out like anyone wanted them to, but this move is looking genius - and that's even without knowing if any of the three young arms will ever pan out.
  17. Some interesting points here, and certainly makes you think. I doubt though that even Stearns had any idea what was to come with this virus. If he did, then he failed miserably in pushing that up the flagpole so that the US as a country could have maybe done more to prevent this situation we ended up finding ourselves in. Also, I'd argue that the Padres GM looks like the genius in that offseason trade. As we know, Davies could get some Cy Young votes for his performance this year, and Grisham had a really nice season in that Pads lineup. Meanwhile....man, I'm too depressed about what we saw from Urias and Lauer this season to even discuss them!
  18. Has it been reported at all whether the Brewers considered moving Burnes up this week to start on 3 days rest, and then might also allow him to pitch again on Sunday - on 3 days rest? Or, is that just something you don't even entertain because you don't want to screw the kid up at all in what has been an incredible bounce-back season (albeit a very condensed season)? I'm sure they at least entertained the idea, but wondering if CC had been asked about this in any of his press conferences this weekend?
  19. So, does Andy Haines get a "pass" this year (mostly due to the craziness surrounding this COVID season), or does he end up being the "fall guy" after the season is over with how historically anemic this offense has been?

  22. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have also been terrible, while David freaking Bote looks like Carl Yastrzemski. 2020 is a weird, sucky year. My question then is: what's causing all of these great players to struggle so much this year? Just seems so odd that you have a bunch of these MVP level players all hitting around .200. I can't speak for all of these other guys, but Yeli just has no clue at the plate right now. It can't be a different baseball, because he's not even making contact with it 1/2 of the time - so that's not the issue. Like others have said - he's swinging right through FB's down the middle of the plate, and looks like he's seeing breaking balls for the first time in his life as he pulls off the ball and whiffs way over the top of them. I just don't get it. At this point, I honestly wouldn't be mad if they faked an injury for him and just shut him down the rest of the year. Give him the final two weeks of the season to clear his mind and then send him to AZ this fall (if they are allowed to open up the ST facilities) to have him work on his swing for a month (or however long it takes to get things right again). A 1-2 day mental break won't do it at this point.

  25. Yeah, there's just no way that MLB won't at least have some fans in the stands next season. They simply cannot go two straight years with no gate revenue coming in. At some point, people are just going to have to start learning how to live with this virus, and hopefully we'll at least have some type of vaccine circulating by next March/April. I think the big question will be: how many fans will be allowed into the stadium, and what will that look like? Will it be based on each team's location and state/local rules, or will MLB have their own rules for what % of stadiums can be filled next year?
