  1. I doubt there is any way we are getting in on Taylor, unless if it comes after next season when he becomes a FA. Can't imagine we're going to trade for a guy that only has one year left on this deal. If the Rays can make two WS in the past 12 seasons with one of the smallest payrolls in baseball - then it's certainly possible for the Brewers. But, it definitely makes you a bit depressed to think how close we were just two years ago. Game 7 at home with a trip to the WS on the line, and we couldn't get the job done.
  2. Love to see the reports from Flanagan. Am I the only one thinking that the Brewers are wasting an opportunity to provide some game updates on their PD twitter account during these instructional games? Would love to get some daily updates on how some of our prospects are looking. And, regarding Vassalotti - why did I think he was more of a soft tosser? Or, was he before - and all of a sudden he found 4-6 MPH on that FB? I know he was a guy I was intrigued about a couple of years ago when we first signed him, but he really struggled the past couple of years.
  3. Ummmm....yeah, Woodruff would bring back an absolute haul of players. So would Burnes. But, there's no way you are trading either of those guys, unless if you absolutely wanted to go 100% in on a full rebuild. That's not going to happen though, especially with Yeli currently in his prime (and the big contract).
  4. Below are the prospects on the site closest to the $32 million value and just below. Listing them all and not editing out any teams for likelihood as an actual trade partner. Luis Campusano (C, Padres): 32.1 Andres Gimenez (SS, Mets): 32.1 Brailyn Marquez (LHP, Cubs): 31.3 Heliot Ramos (OF, Giants): 31.0 Nolan Jones (3B, Indians): 30.9 Nick Gonzales (2B, Pirates): 30.9 Jasson Dominguez (OF, Yankees): 30.5 Kristian Robinson (OF, Diamondbacks): 30.4 Trevor Larnach (OF, Twins): 30.0 Matthew Liberatore (LHP, Cardinals): 29.8 Forrest Whitley (RHP, Astros): 29.7 DL Hall (LHP, Orioles): 29.3 OK - here's what I don't understand with these trade simulator values: there is no way that Stearns is trading Hader 1-1 for any of those prospects listed above. You can't tell me that Aroldis Chapman had the same trade simulator value as Gleybor Torres, and the other prospects heading back to the Yankees a few years back, nor can you tell me that Andrew Miller had the same value as Sheffield/Frazier. So, even though these guys might have more value than Hader on this simulator site - there is just no way that DS is making a one-one trade of Hader for any of these guys. He's going to need at least a couple of Top 100 guys to make a trade. Also, while many seem to think a trade this winter makes the most sense, it seems like most of the big trades of elite closers have all happened at the July deadline in recent years. So, I wonder if we still wouldn't be better holding onto him into next year (if the right deal isn't available this winter) and see if 2-3 teams next July want to really bolster their bullpen down the stretch run? Of course, the biggest risk there is you don't know how Hader will perform in the first 3 months next year or if the dreaded injury bug hits him.
  5. Hader ($32 Million) and Arcia ($6 million) to the Phillies for Alec Bohm ($38 million). Done. The Phillies certainly have a need for a elite reliver and are in "win now" mode. However, depsite what some website says, Orlando Arcia has negative trade value. First, there is a significant chance the Brewers simply non-tender him. Second more probably true than not, many players with similar skill sets will also be non-tendered which makes Arcia worthless to acquire in a trade. I would love to get Bohm, but I just don't know how willing the Phillies would be to give up a guy that came up and performed so well during the final month+ of this season. Seems like someone they are probably going to want to build around. On top of that - there is very little else that I would be interested in with the Phillies system. Spencer Howard would be an option, but I doubt DS wants to do just a 1-1 trade of Hader for Howard - and according the trade simulator, Howard has more value than Hader. So, even though the Phillies should have a HUGE need for a guy like Hader this winter, I'm not sure how a deal would get done between these two teams?
  6. Or this: Braves get Hader - 32M value Brewers get: Bryce Wilson - 7.5M Braden Shewmake - 15.4M Kyle Wright - 8.7M Now, I doubt the Braves are giving us two of their young SP that have both made their way up to the big leagues, but maybe they would be down enough on Wright to part with him in a deal like this?
  7. How about this: Dodgers get Hader - 32M value Brewers get: Josiah Gray - 17.7M Edwin Rios - 6M Miguel Vargas - 4.6M Mitchell White - 3.3M Heck, you'd even have .4M to spare!
  8. I agree with this 100%. I just don't see any way that Braun suits up in a different uniform next year. The only fanbase in baseball that will show him the "love" that he deserves (and I know we could all argue what he does/doesn't deserve) in what would probably be his final season - would be the Brewers fans. He's either going to come back as a Brewer next year, or he's going to hang it up. I don't think there are any other realistic options.
  9. I guess it's possible. Melancon is a F/A after this season, but they did just pay Will Smith big money this past offseason. So, I'm assuming that he'll slot into the closer role next year after MM leaves. . Personally though, I'm loving watching the Dodgers bullpen blow chunks in this series. Guess what LA....we've got the best reliever in baseball over the past three years. Make us your best offer!
  10. I may have already mentioned this in another post, but after watching the Rays play this postseason - I'm starting to wonder if we shouldn't just try to pick up some guys this offseason that are good (but not great) offensive players, but are really good defenders. I look at their lineup, and there's really nobody that scares you that much - except maybe that Arozarena kid who is having the postseason of all postseasons. But, they've got two really good starters in Snell and Glasnow (with a few decent SP's behind them), and a really good bullpen. On the pitching front, I'm not sure if we're that far behind the Rays, are we? With Woody and Burnes fronting our rotation and D Will and Hader on the back end (with some other young relief arms emerging), I'm starting to wonder if we just move Hiura to DH and then put our focus on finding some good defenders for 1B, 2B and 3B this winter? Guys that will at least be decent at the plate (not great), but are well above average defensively at those positions? I'm sure I'm making this sound much easier than it is, but I continue to marvel at what the Rays do with one of the lowest payrolls in the game each year. And, it looks like their model is going to get them another WS appearance (and maybe even a title?).
  11. Question. This is supposedly JD at the age of 16. Can one ask that this boy be you know an adult? Full face beard, the size of an NFL Linebacker who's 25? I'd love to see Aaron Judge get in a boxing ring vs JD. Be the Tyson/Holyfield right? Just seems off to be that fully mature at 16 and only 5'10". Wow - do we know if this kid has a legit birth certificate?? Man, there is no way that kid is 16-17 years old. As you said - that looks like a grown up 25 year old man! Well, after watching that video - I might change my tune on him. If he looks like that already, with that swing and supposedly sprinter speed - I might actually be OK with him headlining a trade for Hader. Yeah, we might have to wait on him for a few years, but looks like this kid could be a superstar. And, for that reason alone - I doubt the Yankees even consider moving him in a deal right now. Unless if it's to get a guy like Mike Trout in return.
  12. I hear what you are saying about the Rays, but if we were to go that route - I think it would probably then lead to a complete rebuild. This would probably put a wrench in DS's philosophy of trying to keep the franchise in a consistently competitive environment year after year. I agree that Dominguez is an intriguing young player (and who knows if the Yanks would even consider trading him?), but that might be a really hard sell to the Brewers fanbase if you trade your one big moveable asset in Hader for a guy that you wouldn't see up in Milwaukee for another 3-4 years at best. Also, is it reasonable to think that we aren't that far away from being the Rays right now? I know that might seem laughable, and I get it. But, if you look at that Rays lineup and pitching - they have very few household names. Two big arms at the top of their rotation in Glasnow and Snell, while we have two emerging arms in Woody and Burnes. Their pen has been lights out all season, but we do have D Will, Hader and a bunch of intriguing young arms like Rasmussen, Topa, etc. In looking at their offensive numbers this year, they aren't overly impressive. Still better than ours, but I wonder with a few tweaks to our lineup this winter (with more high contact rate guys) and if we can get Yeli/Hiura bounce backs - is it crazy to think that we couldn't see a much higher win rate in '21? The one thing they clearly do better than us though is on the defensive side. I know - I'm probably in dream land here, but I guess my point is that it really seems like the Rays are winning baseball games because of a couple of really good SP, a great pen and good defense (and a few timely hits).
  13. If we believe the rumors from the past - the Yankees have at least checked in on Hader in the past. So, what type of package would be acceptable for both sides? Thoughts on this trade offer: Brewers get: Clint Frazier Clarke Schmidt Miguel Yajure Yanks get: Josh Hader Avi Garcia I'm not sure if the Yankees would have interest in Avi, but it would at least give them an OF bat to replace Frazier. My guess is that we might have to at least eat his 2M buyout, and maybe more? Or, do we hold onto Avi and try him out at 1B next year, if we were to bring Frazier on board in this deal? Alright - feel free to pick this trade offer apart. If not this package, is there a deal that you'd prefer with the Yankees?
  14. Couldn't this be a good thing for the Brewers then? Yeah, we may not have a ton of money to spend this offseason, but if we can sign guys to 1 year deals (similar to what we tried to do this past year), then maybe we can get a few decent signings. Also, there's an opportunity for guys to sign 1 year deals with us and get a lot of playing time at certain positions - C (if we get rid of Omar), 1B, 3B and maybe SP. Hopefully we can convince some guys to sign some "prove-it" deals this winter, and then they can go on the market again next winter (when hopefully we get out from under the COVID nightmare) and sign longer term deals.
  15. So, do we know if the team is going to send out any updates on these games? I know the Brewers Player Development twitter account has always sent out minor league ST games in past years, so it would be great if they would do the same for any of these instructional games. I'm sure many of you are like me and would love to at least get some small nuggets from each of these games being played down there.
  16. I know it wasn't a late lead blown, but still - another bullpen meltdown here in the 9th inning by the Dodgers pen. So far at least, the plan is working out nicely. Let's get three more Braves wins here and hopefully another pen blowup in at least one of those games. If that happens, we should at least have a very motivated Dodgers team to start some Hader conversations with this winter.
  17. So, do we have any inkling as to what it would take to sign this Kim guy? I'm sure it is very unlikely that we'll get involved, but just curious as to what we think it would take? Seems likely that an Arcia trade could be likely this winter. But, you'd then have Urias filling in at SS. In an ideal world, you'd sign Kim, move Urias to 2B and then have Hiura in the DH role (or maybe have him work some at 1B this winter so that he can become more versatile).
  18. Ahhh.....OK. I guess I had forgotten that this was the name he used on his "players weekend" jersey.
  19. Bird Dog? corey knebel's full nickname is bird dog camera tv person. I did not know that... You aren't the only one! Never, ever heard him referred to as "Bird Dog" before, and I typically do not miss many Brewers games.
  20. Boy, put me in the camp that would be giddy with excitement if the Cubs non-tendered Bryant and the Brewers got involved on a 1-year prove-it type deal. Can you imagine the uproar from Cubs fans everywhere if their golden child KB ended up terrorizing them in 2021 in a Brewers uniform! Oh, it would be absolutely magical! With all of this said - do we have any idea what it would take to sign KB on a 1-year deal, if he did become a free agent? Something tells me that one of the bigger market teams would want to get involved on this - and maybe there's a team out there that would come to the table with a multi-year deal (even after his struggles this past year). So, probably a HUGE longshot that he'd end up in Milwaukee next year, but we can dream, right?
  21. Good analysis here, and thanks for posting. As much as we all can nitpick some of the moves that didn't work out well this past offseason (and there were plenty), we really cannot complain much at all about what Stearns & Co. (along with CC) have done with this franchise since taking over. He mentioned in his introductory press conference that he wanted to make the Brewers competitive year in and year out, and I think he's done just that. Now.....these next 5 years could be the most challenging (assuming of course he doesn't bolt to take the NYM job), so it'll be interesting to see if he can continue this run of competitive seasons.
  22. Wow....this guy just needs to get out of the city of Chicago! Takes the Sox to the playoffs for the first time in a very long time, and gets the boot right afterwards. And, wasn't her the manager that got the boot so that the Cubs could bring Madden in as they started to become good? I have no idea if he's a good manager or not, but seems to get the raw deal by teams whenever they start to be on the verge of breaking through!
  23. Why would Stearns even think about such a deal? It still leaves two gaping holes on offense and his biggest trade chip gone for two prospects. Campusano is not ready to help right away. He has played exactly on game above high A level. He is at least a 2022/2023 ready player. Patino is a highly thought of pitcher who really stunk this year because he too has almost no experience above A+. Why does it matter that they're prospects? The goal is to get the best talent available whether you think that talent is MLB ready or a couple years away. I don't want a GM in a small market that's turning down deals because the players may not be MLB ready. No team should operate like that, especially a small market team. I have to agree with you here. DS needs to get the very best package he can for Hader. While I think we would all love to have guys coming back in that deal that are all MLB "ready," I don't think it makes sense to give away our best trade asset right now in a deal where we are forgoing talent to instead take guys less talented but are ready to fill holes right away. We need to hit a home run with this Hader trade to restock our system with some high upside young talent.
  24. Yeah, I guess I don't understand why the Cubs wouldn't try to trade them, instead of non-tendering them a contract? There's no doubt though that this is going to be a crazy offseason. And, by "crazy," I don't mean the good crazy where deals are happening all over the place. I'd be shocked if we see much player movement before Jan/Feb.
  25. I would love to get a guy like Vaughn as a headliner in a trade for Hader. But, what do we know about Vaughn's ETA in the majors? Is he someone that we could realistically expect to be ready at the start of next season, or is it possible that he's a mid-year call up type guy next summer? Did he participate in the White Sox's alternate site this summer? If so, were there any reports on how he looked there? If we could get Vaughn in a package for Hader, is there any chance at all that we could also get one of their young starters? I'm sure Kopech is still off limits, but what about Dunning or Stiever? Is that too much to ask for in a Hader deal?
