  1. Plate discipline has been an issue with this team for a while. The guys struck out too much and has a devil of a time moving base runners along especially RISP. It wouldn't be fun to find out how many runners we left on base...
  2. He's not terrible defensively. It is a real mystery why he couldn't hit at all once he was traded to us. But I don't want him back either. He belongs in the AL.
  3. The Yankees spend with Monopoly money. I predict he'll be a Yankee next year. yup, makes perfect sense. Didi is out for what seems to be the majority of next season, and they have endless cash to spend. If not the Yankees, I can also see the Cubs as a player. Oh lord, not the Cubs. And not because he would make the Cubs better. I just don't want that guy in the NL. He's gonna hurt somebody and we have to play the freaking Cubs 19/20 games a year.
  4. I hope that clown gets out of the NL and goes to NY. Let the Yankees have the creep. I don't have a lot of issues with the rest of the Dodgers players but I don't want that dirtball to get a ring.
  5. Braun paid his price and doesn't do the kind of stuff Machado does on the field. Morgan is a nut case but basically harmless. I don't recall Gomez trying to purposely kick an opponent in the ankle. I for one am glad we don't have that creep on our roster. LA can have him.
  6. The issue with Machado is this isn't the first time he's done something stupid/dirty. He was a hot head in Baltimore. I don't care how talented he is - I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.
  7. Yes, however this team has a different feel to it than the 82 team and especially the 2011 team. The core talent on this team is returning in February so the future is very bright. Our leadership is different too.
  8. What is with this clown? He really is a piece of work. I don't have a problem with the rest of that team and I have no love for Boston but I hope the Red Sox sweep them in 4 routs.
  9. You could have said that at the beginning of the season and we all would have taken it in a heartbeat. Six home playoff games generated a lot of revenue that can be used to invest in the 2019 team. And with Burnes and Woodruff ready to step into the rotation, that revenue can be invested in offense. If someone would have told us that at the ASB we all would have taken it in a heartbeat. If we address a couple of holes in the offseason 2019 should be another fun season with perhaps a more fulfilling ending.
  10. Perhaps those of us who say pitching we are talking about starters. This year our bullpen was ridiculous. They were lights out. I don't know how you can ask for more. But offense is a real problem and had been too often this season. We don't play small ball and we strike out too much. We seem to fall in love with going for homers when just putting the ball in play into the outfield is all you need to score runs.
  11. Yes, he is one of the most feared relievers in the game right now so you leave him there. I'd look for a starter elsewhere starting with Woodruff and Burnes.
  12. Yes, there had to be somebody better than him! A pitcher in the bullpen would have been a better choice.
  13. Lack of offensive discipline has been a problem for not only years, but decades. I don't know why switching hitting coaches would work now. Not that I think they shouldn't. What else can you do to fix this ongoing problem? Isn't the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
  14. Maybe if batters were proficient in situational hitting, strikeout rates would be lower? We get a guy on base, and Brewers hitters come up there trying to knock the ball into the seats. When they fail to do so, they whiff at pitchers six inches above the strike zone, or bouncing in the dirt (see Moustakas and Aguilar). Adjust the approach like Anthony Rizzo did against us in the one game playoff. Behind in the count, I think it was 1-2, with a runner on base, he choked up on the bat, sacrificing the home run in order to foul pitches off, and force the pitcher to throw him what he wanted. When was the last time a Brewer bat came up to the plate with that kind of approach? Rizzo ultimately fouled 8 or 9 pitches off, and while I don't recall what he did, he worked the count, and increased the pitcher's pitch count in doing so. If he's successful, his team scores. Even if he just makes contact, and doesn't reach safely, he moves a runner over, which is a hell of a lot more than a strikeout does. If nothing else, the pitcher on the mound is out of the game that much sooner. We look at metrics, and say, "this doesn't make sense". Well, if batters attained a more team friendly approach at the plate, strikeout rates wouldn't be what they are. Aguilar whiffed four times tonight swinging at crap that a high school batter knows to lay off of. Love this post! Not doing situational hitting has been an issue for us all season long. Another thing we do that drives me and my hubby crazy is the pitcher just walked a guy and can't find the plate and the next guy up is swinging at these lousy pitches. Coles has to go.
  15. I sure as heck don't want to see tonight's game again. Once was more than enough.
  16. We need starting pitching. Chacin can't be your 'ace'. I like what we are seeing in Woodruff and Burnes. Lord knows if Anderson or Jimmy Nelson will ever return to form. 502 is right, we need someone who can play 2B and put Shaw back to 3rd if Moose doesn't return. We also should shake up the coaching staff. Coles needs to go and I'm still no fan of Windmill Eddy.
  17. Yep ... 2-1 or 5-1, doesn't matter. You can't generate offense, you lose. The pitching carried this team this far. The offense choked in this series. I can blame Jeffress. 2-1, the Brewers still feel like they have a fighting chance, and the crowd is still in it. 5-1, the crowd is silenced, the air is sucked out of Miller Park, and the team is dejected. There's a world of difference between being one swing of the bat from tying it up, and needing a grand slam to tie it (because we really suck at small ball, for the most part). Jeffress serving up a gopher pitch to Puig was the knife in the back. And he's done it time and time again. If I'm a Brewer player, I don't know if I can look the guy in the eye in the lockerroom. Hes put them behind the 8-ball too much. When your offense stinks at times like ours did this year your pitching has to be damn near perfect and frankly that's asking a hell of a lot from our great bullpen. Maybe these Brewer players you speak of in your post here should APOLOGIZE to guys like JJ for not supporting them by scoring more than one freaking run in the biggest game of the season.
  18. No walks. Wow. All the pressure on a rookie starter and they never even made him sweat. That pitcher of theirs is gonna be a good one. I hope there is a change in our hitting coach. The approach by a lot of our guys left a lot to be desired all season and it came home to roost big time tonight.
  19. Yes, of all of the moves by Stearns this one was the one that backfired. Is Schoop returning in 2019? We should have gone for a starting pitcher instead.
  20. I think CC panicked and put Hadar in waaayyyy to soon. Chacin didn't have it but we had other options out there in the 3rd. I would have put Woodruff or Davies or anyone else in there instead and saved Hader for later on.
  21. Earlier today I told my hubby whoever won this series was going to go up against a buzz saw with the Red Sox. They are a complete team and should make mince meat out of those damn Dodgers. I hope they sweep them big time. I'm bitterly disappointed but man, do we have a lot to be happy about.! We have a hell of core of players for next year. We need more clutch hitting - hitting with RISP and better starting pitching. If we can fix our hitting approach and get a couple of real starters we'll be back in 2019 even stronger.
  22. I will say one thing about this team - even tho we are all disappointed we have a great core and should be back even stronger next season. We do need to bolster our starting pitching. If we can do this 2019 will be even better.
  23. What an absolutely fun night last night. If we manage to win this darn thing it will be one TALL task against the Red Sox. They have been so dominate all year. I believe who ever wins the NLCS will run into a buzz saw in Boston next week. But I'd rather it be us than LA.
  24. What has been torturous is watching the guys striking out at an alarming rate these past 2 games. Yes, the Dodgers have good pitching but it is maddening to watch them pass on pitches over the plate and swing at balls under their noses or in the dirt.
