  1. Trading Braun right now would be a fireable offense for DM, and if he could actually be fired, MA as well.
  2. You sure they are going to have Parra? He's going to be an expensive bench player and he doesn't hit enough to play every day. I'm not a fan of Sanchez, but they shouldn't bring Reynolds back. Blanks is a guy who's played both corner OF spots and 1B. Adding a guy who can play corner OF to go with Schafer might be better than paying Parra $7 million to play twice a week. I wouldn't approve of letting him walk. Too many concerns in the OF with Braun's thumb, Gomez being wild, etc. But if we did let him go I want to get something back for him. He's too valuable to just cut loose. Plus he's another left handed bat in the lineup against RHP, we need all of those we can get.
  3. How is Adam Lind NOT an upgrade in your eyes? The man was a better hitter in 2013 than any player on our roster including Lucroy by several metrics. I understand the injury cloud but assuming he is healthy most/all of the season I don't see how he does not improve the team.
  4. Because Kyle Blanks / Gaby Sanchez / mediocre player du jour would help us so well.... These guys have no use to us. We don't need more mediocre people who are limited in playing ability and have seen their max ceiling. Either Rogers needs to play or we re-sign Reynolds at minimum and trade for a minor league AA or AAA first baseman to groom. At least Reynolds can play both 1st and 3rd at any given game. We have plenty in the OF with Parra. Hell, at least Chase Headley flashed some semblance of being a legit MLB talent at one time, and he'd fill 1B and 3B.
  5. So basically it's click fodder to energize the large market Dodger fans at the expense of the smaller market Seattle and Milwaukee fans. That isn't a trade idea.
  6. I second this notion as another resident deep in Purple-land. When I moved here the Wild were nothing (relatively speaking), ever since they signed Parise/Suter I as a novice hockey mind watch them with regularity and have really done a 180 on my opinion of the sport. The Brewers really could use a strategic bonafide STAR signing, as you said it completely changes everything. No, Carlos Gomez is not that. Lucroy is not either. Signing a guy like Lester, Scherzer, or even Hanley (I wouldn't like the 3rd) would be a sign that the Milwaukee Brewers are serious and a force to be reckoned with. New Brewer fans would be created ala me with the Wild, and that creates more television revenue, jerseys sold, etc. Greinke helped create the first new wave of Brewer fans, but he got away before he could cement a legacy here. CC Sabathia also created new Brewer fans during his short time on the team. No, Attanasio doesn't want to lose money. But if done correctly spending more money makes even more money.
  7. I guess the bottom line is the fact our pitching staff was good enough to do special things last season. The pathetic bats are what doomed us, as well as stressed the pitchers out towards the last couple months because they felt they needed to throw a shutout for us to win.
  8. Don't forget Nava too. If we could pry him away for something I wouldn't mind it, he's in arby and probably going to be cheaper than Parra...also is a switch-hitter.
  9. Sting sure made a entrance!
  10. I'm not expecting the Brewers to go out and spend on a platoon partner for Lind. About 20% of pitchers are left handed. That comes out to around 30-35 left handed starters per year. Lucroy already started 19 games at 1B last year and I wouldn't be surprised to see that number expand by a bit next year with the new roster. Jason Rogers or another minor leaguer could emerge as a platoon partner. If they do go out and get somebody else I'd expect that to be for a low cost player who can field other positions as well. Plus, LaRoche performs poorly enough against LHP to require a platoon. Getting a backup catcher who could mash LHP would be a good idea and would both solve the platoon issue & give Lucroy rest all in one shot. (Relatively speaking with regards to the "mashing.") Someone like JP Arencibia who has clear LHP/RHP split differentials but would be VERY cheap. He isn't an every day player, but he's got the pop we would be looking for.
  11. LaRoche must not like winning.
  12. I'm out on Knight for the future. Can't stand his shot selection. He's still very young and raw as a player too. Also keep in mind the Bucks have been devoid of a #1 (or a #2 by most team standards) scoring option, and he is the most talented scorer we have had. He's probably told to create shots for himself. Hopefully Jabari/Mayo/Giannis will help shoulder the burden as time goes on.
  13. RHP 1) Gomez 2) Gennett 3) Braun 4) Lind (he primarily hit cleanup in Toronto) 5) Lucroy 6) Ramirez 7) Davis/Parra 8) Segura 9) Pitcher LHP 1) Segura 2) Braun 3) Lucroy 4) Gomez 5) Davis 6) Ramirez 7) Platoon 1B (Matt McBride?) 8) Gennett
  14. Perhaps the long awaited debut of Sting? Have to think it's coming at some point....
  15. I think Kidd is still feeling things out...Parker at 24mpg should normalize up into the low 30s, Sanders likewise at some point. Can't argue with 6-5 though, been a long time since we've been relevant. Last year was definitely worth it.
  16. Adam Lind for 7million (15mil) is an immensely better deal. DM's deal looks better by the day.
  17. I cannot stand it when this quote is used in reference to one of our state's sports. People use it every single offseason with the Packers too. How are the Vikings doing right about now with all that money they spent? How'd the Bears fare with Jared Allen? Let the chips fall where they may, and then we'll see if the Cubs are really passing us. I don't think they are, and they can't be trusted until we actually see it with our eyes.
  18. Huh? They already secured a butt ton of money towards a new arena. They don't want to move the Bucks in the least bit.
  19. Minnesota fans in general are a fickle bunch...nevermind the Royals just missed a title playing small ball. The elephant in the room is forever going to be the Pohlads and their tight pockets. They wormed their way into a brand new stadium, kept it competitive the first year, then down she went. Until they actually raise the payroll to something respectable the Twins will be mediocre to poor. "We're waiting for 2016 when Buxton, Sano, etc are ready." Yeah ok boys.
  20. What price should we put on keeping Braun and Gomez as healthy as possible? (Plus having adequate coverage for the inevitable DL stint). I think it's worth 6 million to fend off injury issues at 3 OF spots.
  21. Rogers, Jiminez and Lind don't really provide anything more than Rogers, Jiminez and Reynolds would provide, except that Lind was a left handed bat that could only hit against right handed pitchers. You guys are placing an awful lot of responsibility in Jason Rogers lap, and nothing he has done at the Major League level yet has shown me that he can handle it. Rogers was never as highly touted as either Mat Gamel or Hunter Morris, and neither one of those guys ever showed they were up to the challenge. Yes, Reynolds was pretty bad against lefties last year. History tells us he will be better, unless we think that Reynolds has gone off a cliff when it comes to hitting lefties at age 31. And truth be told, I feel much more comfortable in his ability to bounce back, and a lot less comfortable that Jason Rogers is the answer at first base 75% of the time against left handed pitchers. Plus, here's something else to think about. Reynolds, if needed, can play third base. Should Aramis Ramirez, who will be 37 early in the 2015 season, get hurt, who plays third base with Reynolds gone? Ramirez missed 29 games last year, and 70 games in 2012. Adam Lind can't play third base. He never has. We're getting rid of Weeks, who was our second baseman against left handed pitchers. We need somebody to play second against lefties. We're getting rid of Mark Reynolds, who was our emergency backup third baseman. Who plays third if Ramirez gets hurt? We're counting on Jonathan Lucroy, who is our catcher, not getting nicked up, and being one of our first baseman against lefties, with Jason Rogers being the other option. That means Maldonado better not get hurt behind the plate. Because if he does, now Lucroy is the only catcher, meaning he can't play first base against lefties, meaning that Jason Rogers is it at first base. We have a boat that is springing leaks all over the place. Christ man, its November 1st, 2014, not March 1, 2015. Did anyone in here expect we would have addressed our 1B situation with a COMPETENT player already? Half of us were resigned to the possibility of Overbay/Reynolds again. We will find utility INF. We will address our lack of depth. DM isn't an idiot, neither is Attanasio. They saw how badly we wore down towards the end of the season. Just like they saw we can't have another season of production at 1st base like we have had the past two years. Lind is an immense upgrade for us, and by far the best 1st baseman since Prince. Think about it...we're set for 2 years now at a modest price if he doesn't get hurt. Linds BA, OBP, and OPS were all higher than any player on our regular roster last year, INCLUDING Lucroy. In the words of the GREAT Aaron Rodgers.... R - E - L - A - X.
  22. This year is going to be a learning experience for most of our team, but OJ Mayo looks surprisingly fit & in good shape. Maybe its the new Fro hes sporting...if we could somehow scrape decent production out of him we might be able to push for an 8 seed. Unlike previous campaigns for an 8 seed I would consider this one to be a great accomplishment.
  23. Not sure where you live, but have you looked into working in the Dakotas in the oil industry? If you're willing to move you can make some pretty serious money (and have a very good career) out there. Might be something to look into.
  24. Davis just got done leading the team in home runs...in his 1st full season. We're paying him essentially nothing, so yes he should be a relative lock. His trajectory is still ascending, one of the FEW pieces we do have for the future. Hart did nothing out in Seattle this season...his career is on the way down. Aoki has also reached his max potential, it will only decline (or remain the same for a bit) from here. The same could be said for Parra, he pretty much is what he is. However, he brings Gold-Glover defense to our team. I don't really see much in Free Agency either as to players we could "buy on the upswing" or players in their prime. 1) Pablo Sandoval 2) Max Scherzer 3) Hisashi Iwakuma 4) Johnny Cueto 5) Melky Cabrera Pretty much the only guys in this class where I can look at it and say we're really buying something of value. Something where we don't have to worry on a daily basis whether they will fall off a cliff or not. That being said, I don't foresee Mark A opening his wallet and making the RIGHT business decison (assuming we have to sign somebody). Instead, we like to look at the guys on their last leg. LaRoche, Dunn, Cuddyer, Stephen Drew, etc. I would rather us not sign anyone and suck than take more of these retreads on. I guess as an organization I feel we need to decide we want to be big boys and go after REAL free agents, or if we are going to do the smart thing and start passing on these 35 year olds. Guys like Khris Davis, Scooter, and Gomez to a lesser extent are incredibly valuable to our franchise, we need cheap talent to succeed in order to take the next step.
  25. Here's some rocket science. Actually sign a competent 3B / INF that can allow Ramirez to take a day off here and there without throwing us to the dogs. No depth is a serious issue.
