  1. Two guys who look much improved this year are: Nash Walters (WHIP 0.86 this year vs 1.56 career and BB/9 down to 3.86 vs 6.49) Michele Vassalotti (WHIP 0.64 this year vs 1.45 and BB/9 down to 0.82 from 4.50) . Also, thankfully Vassalotti with 25 HBP last year has only 1 this year.
  2. Tyrese Hunter, who was Kamari McGee's teammate in high school, has entered the transfer portal. Surprised by this since he was freshman of the year in the Big 12 at Iowa State. Probably more likely to go to Marquette since the Badgers seem to be set at point guard.
  3. I would say pitcher Ethan Small, who will get starts somewhere along the line.
  4. Agree with JohnBriggs12. Just go with Feliciano. He will be 24 this year. Time to get on with it. He has the best chance to improve the team over last year if he is successful. Might fail but that's the chance you have to take as a small market team.
  5. 1) Born and bred in Racine but spent 30 years in the Washington, D. C. area, most of that in the Blue Ridge of West Virginia. 2) 65+ 3) Been on Brewerfan for decades 4) Tried out for high school JV team, thought I did pretty well but no dice 5) Robin Yount 6) Don't do twitter 7) I worked on the Consumer Price Index, I retired just when it got interesting. Naturally. 8.) The fact that flame wars are not allowed.
  6. Curt Schilling had a career WAR of 80.5, better than Tom Glavine and Carl Hubbel to name a couple in the HOF. He has been excluded for expressing political views the voters don't like. That, to me, is the worst offense by the voters. Politics should be left out. This is sports.
  7. For those of you talking about Seager, he already signed a 10 year deal with Texas. Renfroe hit OBP of .341 at Fenway and only .287 on the road. That doesn't bode well. He is past his prime by age so little chance of improvement. OPS .870 at Fenway and .761 on the road. The road guy is likely the one the Brewers will get.
  8. I still have a few doubts. Struck out 26.5% of the time, the same rate as Dan Vogelbach at a higher level. Yelich 28.3% last year. At least he's better then Keston Hiura (44.5%).
  9. Noah Campbell played all nine positions for the Mudcats, including pitching the last inning retiring the side 1-2-3. He had never caught before.
  10. Michele Vassalotti with 3 HBP to run his total to 24 for the year. Looks like he is the Don Baylor of pitchers.
  11. Not sure if this has been noted elsewhere but Dave Nilsson is now the hitting coach with the Lake Country Dock Hounds in Cooney.
  12. Barker is pretty much a split finger guy. He is not a particularly hard thrower unless something has changed. As I recall, he does have the ability to make the splitter go in or out to a hitter for what that's worth. Still, I might have preferred him to trading away Henry for Curtiss or going with Norris.
  13. They mentioned during the Draft that the Giants were going off the 3TO standard and concentrating on contact hitters. Other teams are now trying to imitate that (including the Brewers with their recent draft?).
  14. Euro championships going on. Italy looks like the team to beat to me. Hard to pick against France though. They have athleticism galore.
  15. Rodgers has done a lot for the Packers. I think they will give him his second super bowl ring by trading him to Tampa Bay where he can back up Brady.
  16. This Reds outfield may have the worst range I have ever seen in MLB. All well below average for their position.
  17. More LaRussa hilarity: https://dailycaller.com/2021/06/03/tony-la-russa-dui-arrest-video/
  18. Narvaez: 29, Garcia 29, Bradley 31, Vogelback 28, Smoak 34 (33 with Brewers), Sogard 34, Holt 32. They are past their primes. Nobody should expect them to get their career norms. The younger guys are doing about what you'd expect. Heck, they are even getting a bonus this year from Narvaez. This isn't the steroids era anymore.
  19. Payton Henry and Jose Sibrian listed for Nashville but no Feliciano? Hmm.
  20. Do the Badger forwards ever backcheck? Before Bemidji scored the 3rd goal they must have had a man wide open in the slot 5-6 times. Eventually, one got to a player by accident. It was only a matter of time though.
  21. Story in the Journal-Times with a few quotes from Vinny: https://journaltimes.com/sports/baseball/brewers-racine-native-rottino-added-to-broadcast-team-for-2021/article_fff14546-d8be-5568-a328-e73e2a7c8fb7.html
  22. Since I believe MLB is going to a deadened ball this year, who knows, the level swing may be back in vogue before long.
  23. Just like the Sox. They do everything right and then blow it with one bad decision. Maybe they just wanted the extra television commercials that result from a 5 hour game.
  24. I'm probably the one who most said he is not a CF. I still say that. I claim SD would have saved runs with a better CF. The guys he was competing against were not good either (Bellinger!?). Good metrics may just be the result of playing in SD in the big outfield. Anyway, I saw him play CF in the same stadium, same opponents as Harrison and Ray and I still claim the latter two are better CF than Grisham. I always liked Grisham but as a corner.
  25. I don't know if anyone else saw it but Willson Contreras is one of those players who armor up ridiculously. Against Miami he moved his arm in front of the ball and then headed towards first base but the pitcher complained and the umpire called Contreras back without his HBP. Contreras spent the rest of the game grousing to the pitcher but the right call was made in my opinion. MLB should take a look at some of this armor if these types of things continue.
