  1. I posted in the rumors section my thoughts on Parra. I was in the boat that once we get an offer better than what we paid for him, he should be gone. Then I looked at this, particularliy the (small sample) lead off splits. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=parrage01&year=&t=b Give me a good reason that we should trade a 28 year old lead off hitter like him for anything less than a big asset package rather than extend him?
  2. Parra is also 4th in triples, 7th in doubles and 8th in slugging, and he's in the top 20 in a bunch more offensive categories. Melvin just can't give away a player like that even for a rental. He has to get value in return. If offers aren't up to that, he's got options. The QO card is leverage. Every time you mentioned QO, I would just roll my eyes. But the guy is our MVP right now, and would be on many teams, not just one as bad as ours. If he was a real CF, I would have him as untouchable. Throw in that he is a 28 year old lead off hitter now, and I have a guy I want to keep. In his last 145 games, he is at 839 OPS, so this isn't just a one month thing.
  3. Im beginning to come around with the idea of a 3 year $30 deal extension with Parra. Im loving having a real lead off hitter and at 28, he is figuring this hitting thing out. Im not sure I even want to trade him at all right now unless the return package was incredible.
  4. Parra is OPS ing 866 and he has been a legit lead off hitter, so yeah, he's pretty good and I'd expect a Zobrist caliber package.
  5. Not a bad comp. The market looks like teams better be ready to pony up a big starter prospect if they want to land an every day player. Looks like Melvin trade ARam too soon.
  6. There is still plenty of time until the deadline. Let's not count out the FO just yet. Our only trade chip that could have netted Hoffman was Gomez and he isn't a SS, which for whatever reason is what Toronto wanted. I will be as mad as the anyone on here if all we come out of this is the ARam trade and no prospect splash move(s), but the deadline is nowhere near over.
  7. Unless it is for Lohse and Garza, no way in the world would i take on an expensive Colorado guy who is always hurt.
  8. At the least. Id start with Piscotty and an arm.
  9. Big difference between Tulo and Braun. Tulo is offensively the best SS in the game; Crawford is getting close (but hasn't proven it over multiple seasons) and Peralta is 33 and likely not long for being adequate defensively at SS. Braun is maybe the 3rd-7th best RF in the game (clearly behind Stanton and Harper, then debatable between Braun, Bruce, Martinez, CarGo, Bautista and Springer). And you can move guys to RF from 3B/SS; you don't move guys to SS later in their career. Tulo has extra value because it's a much more premium position with much more offensive scarcity. That, and not having the PED thing hanging over his head (but that's secondary to position premium). I get the SS vs RF/LF thing. All things being equal, I would trade Braun to pick up Tulo. But Tulo hasnt played in 140 games since 2011. Throw in eventual position change, injuries, and the Col splits and Id say the two are in the same general asset category. If the Brewers were to trade Braun, the template is set: take back a contract and pick up two premium assets.
  10. I am thinking the same thing. If this kind of package is available for Tulo, Braun should net something similar.
  11. His contract goes to a no trade now. They can buy it out im sure but this just makes the Jays side all the more nuts.
  12. Parra and Cotts are very likely. I see no reason why either would be on the roster on Aug 1.
  13. Look at those games played for Tulo. What a horrible trade. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/tulowtr01.shtml
  14. Hoffman was the guy we all wanted but Pompey/Norris/Pentecost are still there in some combination? At this point, I have no idea what Toronto is doing so who knows?
  15. Well in fairness, no one thought the Jays were in the market for a fragile big money SS, so maybe our potential market isn't as narrow as we think. I will worry about judging the trading deadline on August 1st. So far its just a meh, but you never know.
  16. I thought maybe Tulo will be a flip candidate but his contract says otherwise. What a silly move for the Jays.
  17. I have no idea what Toronto is doing here. Damaged goods playing on turf, and not in Colorado, picked up $50M or so in salary, and gave up a lot. I wonder if there is an equal package out there for Braun..............
  18. Plus, even if Shields opts in, we'd have to pick up some cash, but he is tradeable. Its not a perfect deal, but we are talking about Garza, Lohse, and Segura here.
  19. I'd be trading Segura for Myers and praying for an opt out.
  20. Supposedly they want out of Shield's contract badly.
  21. Segura, Garza and Lohse for Shields and Myers. If Im going to over pay for a starting pitcher I might as well have one that pitches halfway decent.
  22. Completely different. Axford had fallen out of favor with Brewers and was a reliever. Lind is an effective middle of the order bat and those guys don't fall off trees like relievers do. I wouldn't rule out a deal with Cards if their offer is insanely good. Just being the "best one out there" though isn't good enough if it's not enough value for Lind. I'd want Rob Kaminsky in any deal with them. Charlie Tilson too if not Piscotty. Of course. I am well aware of Axford, as was any Brewers fan. It was just to point out the notion that we wouldn't ever trade with the Cardinals isn't correct. Axford, while worthless for us at the time, was just the kind of high ceiling guy that could have been lights out down the stretch with a change of scenery, so there was plenty of reason to not give him up to a team we in theory hated. Lind is a guy we will see next year too, so I would want a nice return back, with Piscotty being one piece of such a move.
  23. Melvin traded Axford so he will clearly work with those gentlemen. For 1.5 of Lind, this should be an quality return though.
