  1. I should have read the thread before I posted. Yes, I think the same thing. Dumping Verlanders deal is in exchange for a smaller prospect package for Wilson.
  2. I'm thinking this is an NBA type trade where we take on Verlanders entire contract in exchange for a reduced rate on the trade for Wilson.
  3. Had the Brewers not been swept, I'd buy that they were 1-2 pieces away. But they were. At this point, they need upgrades at second base, in the rotation (replace Garza and Guerra), and in the bullpen. Time to refine the young players they do have. If they make the playoffs, great, if not, stick to the plan. Maybe we can trade for Scooter and Kintzler to solve two of those problems? /sarcasm I'd think the goal now would be to build from within and see what our key guys are really worth by giving them a long look like we did with Arcia. I'd like to see them trade for 2.5 years of Gray if we can give up our prospects who aren't really prospects we are expecting great things like Ray, Lara, and Kodi but I doubt that is going to happen. They are going to want a Brinson and we can't afford to trade away a guy like that unless it means a trip and a run in the playoffs.
  4. Gray would be a nice addition since Guerra proved last year was a fluke and you can't count on Garza down the stretch or certainly next year. Anderson is 30 and has never been more than a #4 type. Upticks in velocity at his age are quite frankly suspicious, like Guerra was last year. The team isn't losing because of their rotation though. They are losing because the bullpen is horrible and the offense is playing like the analytics said they would; they can only score if they hit home runs because they are low average guys who strike out way to much to keep an inning going.
  5. Or we could have just kept Scooter and his 900 plus OPS.
  6. That will end it. What a time for them to turn back into a pumpkin. So lame.
  7. Getting swept by the Pirates to knock us out. Now when did that happen?
  8. Strike outs do matter. Productive outs like the one Arica had that both drove in a run and moved a runner over is how you play the game.
  9. What lead? The only thing that matters it the L column which is tied right now. Standings are by winning percentage, not the loss column. The Brewers still have a better one than the Cubs. Loss column is the only one that matters. You can't make up losses, you can make up wins.
  10. Even if we are not, then that is it? It's a marathon season. We have deep talent, scrappers, and a smart GM who wants to send in reinforcements...... The division and two wild cards are in play. Fangraphs still has us as one of the least talented teams in baseball. I can't agree with that, but it's totally possible we've just been playing well over our heads. I haven't thought we'd win the division when we were 5.5 up and still don't. But I'd much rather end up being wrong than be validated. We are absolutely one of the least talented rosters in baseball. That's not opinion. Our guys are in many cases throw ins and waiver types. Based on career averages and prospect status we don't have much at the MLB level that is elite. This is just a team that played way over their heads in part due to a great manager and in part due to team chemistry. It was fun while it lasted but this is not a talented team. I agree. I so wish that the fangraphs and analytics were wrong but they aren't. The offense is in a slump and the bullpen is simply not good.
  11. Core guys: Arcia: as close to a no brainer as this exercise can allow. Great pedigree, great D, been a top of the line up caliber player for two months. Santana: next in line. Hits to all fields, takes walks, power. Just a solid hitter across the board Nelson: my number 3 and a big step down from the first two. He has an excellent pedigree. Been an ace everywhere he has been. However prior to this year at the MLB level he was Suppan. I love his curveball and he wouldn't be the first to put it together a little later in his career. My next group would be Shaw, Knebel, Brinson, and Hiura.
  12. We've had so many players having career years that it's incredibly tough to know where we are. Are guys like Thames, Shaw, and Anderson building blocks or are they going to be the 2018 version of Junior and Villar? Fangraphs still has us as one of the worst rosters in the game so I have no idea what to expect in 2018. I'm just enjoying the ride in 2017.
  13. Webb has been so bad, it really doesn't matter how good Cooper looks at this point. I've only seen him pitch two games but it's tough to imagine what a major league team saw in him to ever want to acquire him. Let's just hope he is nervous and will shake it off.
  14. Guerra has a 7.15 FiP. He won't be a starter on a team trying to make the playoffs.
  15. Clark was the 12th pick in the draft and fell out of the top 100 by mid 2017. No, he is most certainly not having an impressive season. I saw where he finally changed from the golf grip and he is taking some more walks and stealing some bases. But he isn't driving the ball as seen in his sub 400 slugging. Walks are very nice but major league pitchers aren't going to let him do that until he proves he can hurt them. Right now it would be difficult to see him playing in the Majors and that's why you draft a guy in the first round.
  16. The 2011 Brewers won 96 games.
  17. Trading a number 1 should always be a no go for a small market team unless you're clearing space to bring in a young All Star. Rose is the opposite of that. Just coach up the guys you have instead. Rose is done. Let's hope that when they do this insane move that they buy an early 2nd round pick instead of selling them.
  18. The guy shouldn't have been a closer but when he was with Pitt he was a decent 7th inning guy. Solid pick up.
  19. I'm curious about this too. I thought it was stupid at first, but it's turned into something that looks so dumb it's funny, lol. Love seeing all the chemistry with this team! The slow overhead clapping, the homerun gauntlet, etc., reminds me of the fun the Fielder teams had. I can't place it but I think it might be something to do with a run an underdog made either in soccer or rugby.
  20. What's the over head clapping from? It looks familiar. Is that our 2011 Beast Mode? I hope so because it will drive Cubs fans insane.
  21. Saying that is the same as saying Bill Belichik traded away Clay Matthews. Im fine with that statement too. The draft means you pick the players you like who are available when your turn comes up. If you trade out it means you don't see the value in that specific player.
  22. We all understand how trades were made back then. That's irrelevant. The fact is the team thought Tractor Traylor was a better player than Dirk (and Pierce) then actually added the 19th pick for good measure. So the fact that they couldn't have drafted Dirk isn't true. They absolutely could have and did. The end result was a trade that would prove to be one of the top 5 worst trades in pro sports.
  23. Assuming the Brewers are in first by late July, they will be trading for a starter. Junior looks done (7.15 FiP) and it would be unwise to count on Garza to finish strong and healthy. That's leaves Suter as our 4 assuming Anderson comes back and can be an ace like he has been this year but hasn't been before.
