  1. Tough lines to me. My gut right away went to Rams and the Over. So, most likely do the opposite, haha. But in a dome stadium I think the over should be a good bet. Gurley with 2 weeks off should be healthy. Really I'd probably stay away, but as OP said the fun often comes in the props with the SB anyway.
  2. Jeeze seems a bit a harsh. How about spinning it as being loyal to a team he's been on 10 years and actually valuing his family. These are humans after all. I deal with people in my work who won't travel for the work week because of being away from the family, let alone being gone 4 months at a time. Guy demands trade due to team sucking, then he's a POS. If he stays on losing team he's a POS. Can't win either way.
  3. Yea seems perfect fit for Cle. However, I think he declined trades at the deadline due to wanting to stay in Baltimore due to his family, kids etc. So, maybe he's waiting to see what happens with Harper, assuming he doesn't go back to Was then Jones could sign there. Or maybe if Philly misses Harper, Jones could go to Philly. Also very close to home. Overall I agree with your sentiment on someone is likely going to get a very cheap deal on a good player here, I just don't see it for MKE. Yelich doesn't have bad splits for lefties so there really isn't an OF need vs lefties other than when Braun is injured.
  4. and after his brutal start last year his 2nd half was good. 248/346/788. He's not the worst option if nothing better comes up. Too bad he has a fairly stark split and is worse as a RH
  5. His Xs and Os in 1995 probably would've been fine. His personality would be cancer anytime, just like it was his whole playing career. It's funny all us idiots on the internet the last couple years calling for ball screens, 3s, ball movement, player movement on offense (you know modern NBA offense) were kind of mocked at times by management folks and the new coach comes in and does exactly that and they have the best offense in the league. Personally I'm shocked it works better than a hi post iso with a tough contested 2 point jumper.
  6. If you watched the Bucks the last few years and didn't think Kidd was terrible and likely the worst coach in the NBA you're missing something. National writers were saying it as well, this just isn't hind sight hating. The Bucks online fan and twitter community were on it for two years. The Xs and Os were terrible, absolutely terrible. Then factor in the personality stuff mentioned here where he's just an awful human being. Then after the fact the stories start coming out about how he treated the players and yes it comes off sociopathy (as much as that word can be used for bball coaches and not true psychos). Read up on some of the stuff, I really don't think you have the full picture. His exit from the Nets (well he exited badly literally every place he ever was), Frank, film sessions and practices with the team. I was never a Jabari guy by any means but he had no shot dealing with this idiot as coach. Jason Kidd should never coach another team again and I don't think he will.
  7. We shouldn't have signed Grandal because the Sawx had a bad C and still won. I also don't know why we got Yelich to play RF when the Cubs won the WS with Hayward who can't hit. But then again, why did the Sox bother getting Chris Sale when the Royals won without an ace P
  8. That's fair. Yea i think the position flex would win out imo and I'd add to the discussion that with those PH opportunities you mentioend it would preferable to have a flexible guy due double switch situations. But yea that HR power of Thames would be nice
  9. Yea if Thames is healthy and on the team I'd be for that as well, it only makes sense. That said, if they're planning on using Jesus like they did after his emergence (basically every day player) then Thames should be moved and find a more versatile backup player who can play multiple positions since we have Shaw, Grandal, Braun who can spell 1B here and there. Basically, is it the best use of that money and roster spot if Jesus is going to start 150 games.
  10. I am a bit surprised his numbers ended up that OK for the 2nd half. We all saw it and he didn't loook good and as if they had figured him out a bit. (plus he started standing 8 ft from the plate for some reason). I know his slug keeps the OPS ok but he was 245/324 second half for avg/obp, that's just not good and leads to the issues of inconsistent O due to the low contact and Ks. You're venturing into the MArk Reynolds world a bit more than we prefer. Again, I think he'll end up in between the two halves and be fine/ok or whatever you want to call it but it's perfectly reasonable to be skeptical. I also ask what average you're putting that against? any player, 1Bs, etc? Either way, if we wanna nitpick adjectives you even said it's slightly above league average. So I'd call that Average, not Good. ETA: Eye black just answered it apparently. Yea that hurts the average argument a bit.
  11. I 100% agree with your second paragraph. For the first, it simply because he was not good at all in the second half. So, through the ridiculous first half we were all saying this is likely a fluke and way above waht he can do. Second half happense where he wasn't good and it's then very reasonable to think he's closer to 2nd half than 1st. I'm hoping he dropped a few pounds and of course am fine rolling him out there basically full time again to start the year as I expect him to be in the middle of the two halves last year. But if the first 2-3 months are like the end of last year you then start looking to recude his ABs vs righties a bit and finding improvements somehow. Basically, it's not really likely for him to match his numbers from last year because that 2 month crazy stretch isn't gonna happen again.
  12. Yea I think SRB just simplified it down. That's really it and he can't say it. Well said.
  13. Yea that's fair. But why not just say that instead of trying to justify it financially when it sure seems a poor choice financially. If happiness, winning, etc factored in more power to him. But why not just say it. Heck, it would be good PR. "I chose MKE over the money due to the chance at the WS after seeing how good they were last year firsthand" etc.
  14. You can't assume either way, it's a risk. He'll be a year older, could get hurt and miss a big chunk, could play and hit poorly, etc. Or, he could do roughly the same or have better numbers in MP. Either way he gambled that 41 mil and I wouldn't have done it. He could be supremely confident in his ability, do all the needed offseason work to have a great year, and if he takes a foul ball of his wrist just right it could cost him tens of millions of dollars. Basically, to get a better deal after this year (3/40ish) seems less likely than getting a worse deal. As in, assuming all goes well he'll probably get roughly the same thing (and I'd bet he puts it in the bank this time) but if things go poorly he's out a lot.
  15. Well I'd think the dream would be Altuve. PResumably without as many SBs. Hit in the 320-340 area with an obp approaching 400. 15-25 HRs.
  16. Interesting read about the Drake. Coming from a frequent Drake basher, it makes you remember the human element a bit. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-adventures-of-oliver-drake-mlbs-record-setting-nomad-who-pitched-for-five-different-teams-in-2018/
  17. I'd still go with IF first. These FAs would be an upgrade to our current 2B situation and would allow Perez to be in his proper role. Also, adding another IF provides insurance on Arcia forgetting how to hit again (Perez could cover that need then). Third, if the IF added is RH you don't need to play Shaw vs lefties. Also, obviously you never have enough pitching and I could get behind a Miley one year deal but chances are he's holding out for two if he hasn't signed. However, MKE will be adding in Nelson, healthy Davies, Woodruff, Burnes to the potential SP mix this year. So in a way you've already added a bunch of pieces there that should be an improvement on last year's SP production.
  18. except for the actual calories in vodka. Well yea, but it's not liquor calories + calories for whatever the mixer is. Basically, the mixer has 0 calories.
  19. Eh, he doesn't crush lefties. At least he didn't in 2018. He posted just a .610 OPS against LHP last year. Perez on the other hand is coming off his best year facing LHP, hitting .277/.304/.479 in 125 PA last year against lefties. I just don't get the "anybody but Perez" thinking. Perez is a good heads up player. He might hit better playing primarily one position but he's a respectable .263 hitter with a .404 slugging percentage in a Brewer uniform. With the potential impact guys off the market, I'm fine with Perez with occasional starts by Spangenberg as the alternative until Hiura. I wouldn't say I'm in the any but but Perez camp. I generally like him as the 25th man, I like that he can put a charge in a ball at anytime. However, going into the year with him needing to play as large of a role as currently pegged seems much to me. I'd really like someone less K prone and who can take a walk. That said, most of these options don't upgrade all that much but adding one more guy slightly above him might put him more in the role he should be in. And would allow for more platoon work with Shaw and more insurance if Jesus falters to play Shaw at 1B and if someone gets hurt to not need Perez everyday. After all these guys got signed though IDK. Maybe Walker is the best they can do if they move Thames, it would create more positional flex.
  20. I'd guess Harrison on a cheap one year deal too. However, maybe that we're seeing all these guys taking 2/20ish deals then Marwin isn't seeing the Zobrist type contract he hoped and is more affordable than previously though. Granted he's younger and better on D but he did hit badly last year. Maybe he'd take a 1 year flyer to prove himself and try again next year.
  21. Yea that's fine. But at 3/45ish? Who knows what he'll get, but tough to justify that kind of money for just ok/fine.
  22. Yup, I had Marwin in fantasy this year so I watched closely. He was atrocious the first half of the year. Imagine the outrage if come mid July he's hitting .220/300 like he was last year while on a multi year deal above 10 mil. My guess is his 2017 will be a huge outlier and he's more like a 260/315 guy the next couple years. Still with that versatility every team would want but you shouldn't be planning on legit top level hitting like he did in 2017 so the price probably becomes tough to justify.
  23. Yea I understand their budget is hit with Grandal. But man 2/20 is basically fine and what I think most here would've been cool with on Lowrie. That said, maybe their research on his poor 2nd half led them to not chase too hard. If you could move Thames it basically would've almost paid for this deal. Oh well.
  24. Issue with Spangenberg is that Perez can only platoon with one of Spang and Shaw vs lefties. So, one of those guys would be playing vs lefties if they don't add anyone else. They might be fine with Shaw doing that since he's done it a lot the last two years, but the numbers are ugly and it's a spot you could clearly add a few runs by improving.
  25. I'm guessing he's more open to a 1 year deal for not thaaat much due to his poor 2018 to try and prove himself for a better contract next year. Marwin/Lowrie needing the multi years and for much more per year. I've never really wanted him as he's too much of the low OBP type for my preference. But it is what it is and we're still MKE with our budget constraints, it's an improvement. Also, I just checked and he did play a good chunk of games at 3b in 2017 and has splashed around in the OF. So he does have position flex.
