  1. Hey I'm in with him as well as he's shown competency at hitting and that is desperately needed. Combine that with the scouting reports and past history on D and you just have to trust this is small sample and will go away. Think back to the first couple weeks as the team made a ton of errors and then quickly rebounded to good D. But to say a guy with 7 errors in 23 games has mostly been fine is just blatantly false. That would be a pace of roughly 50 for the season if he played every day. And I remember a game in which he botched 2 plays that didn't even count as errors, and of course a few more too. He has been bad, no way around it. Doesn't mean he isn't capable of doing better or that we have a better option, but guy has to clean it up already. The butterflies should be gone after this long. One eye test thing that I would say doesn't pass the 'hes a great defender' reports on him is his arm. Seems to float a lot over there, maybe it's more of an accuracy thing when he doesn't need to gas it, IDK. But he's thrown some lobs over there.
  2. Might be more likely to add the DH to the NL and start seeing 9 man bullpens. I also think making it easier for teams to make a bazillion bullpen changes per game, which seriously slows the game down, is not something baseball should be doing. Yes I assume that's in the works too, I think I saw something a week or two back that the Players are going to push for it now. For bullpen switches, thing is it's already happening. But yes, adding another person allows it even more.
  3. With the evolution of bullpens these days, how long until they just allow a 26th roster spot? You'd think the next CBA it has to be a discussion doesn't it?
  4. Fair but he's a 250/310 type guy so it's not like he's getting a ton of hits either. As you say though, it's better than what we have so I get it and wouldn't complain. Just feel like some of the other names mentioned might make more sense, but again it comes down to price as well. Take a Dozier, can probably bank on him more as 270/340ish with similar power and you don't have to do the defensive shuffle with Shaw.
  5. Moustakas is your classic Brewers hitter that I thought were were trying to get away from in favor of contact/OBP/BA. I mean if you get him cheap it's better than what we're trotting out at 2B. But I'm not too excited about a who barely OBPs above .300
  6. And another one. Yea at least he's generally hit well to make up for it. I obviously personally don't know anything, I'm just saying the scouting reports provided here by informed posters were that he was a really good defender. Yet, keeps making errors without getting much grief for it. I mean, a guy like Sogard got more grief and he rarel actually ever made an error, just had bad range. Obviously Villar tons of grief as well. Again, hope it's just small sample but cmon man clean it up.
  7. And all the off days after this brutal stretch should help that even more. The issues leading up to the break and possibly in the current stretch is bullpen is just overworked. With all those off days that won't or at least shouldn't be a problem. Have to get there still in the race though.
  8. Really I'm fine with giving Woodruff a few starts. Gave up that 3 run shot on Friday but overall he's looked ok. That's probably the simplest thing to me. Although I guess they still have 5 starters with Miley, Anderson, Chacin, Guerra, Peralta. As much as we pick on Miley he hasn't been bad. I'm sure another will have an injury in the next few weeks, at which point hopefully Davies is ready.
  9. Brewers (Counsell) said about Burnes that he was 100% going back to the rotation next year. I don't believe they were ever that definitive with Hader. They are rather different too; Hader was barely using two pitches and had control issues, while Burnes has very solid command of 4 pitches and uses them all. He's not a guy they'll use as a reliever long term. So far Burnes has only used fastball and slider though hasn't he? Correct me if I haven't noticed. I understood all 4 were competent and he had control as well so I'm guessing they just feel those two are best and since you're only facing the order once there is no need to get tricky. ....or there's no need to show all four pitches when going through the order >1 time as a reliever?
  10. Get Burnes stretched back out? Any update on Davies lately?
  11. Sogard's last game for us was July 4th, obviously a W. Since then they're 5-10. WAR doesn't calculate grit and scrappiness.
  12. For a supposedly good defender I can't believe the amount of error level (even if not called errors) plays he's messed up on D. With his D reputation it has to be small sample size, but cmon man get it cleaned up.
  13. That might be the plan. In fact with Machado gone, the only significant impact moves are to acquire an ace, assuming Hiura can be key piece, and then upgrading with a 2-3 year better than average starter at a position of need. Gives them a shot at having a starter to win a Wild Card play in game this year and upgrades the team for next 2-3 years. One note, Danny Duffy has been on a real nice run. He's allowed no runs in 3 of his last 5 starts, and 4 of his last 7, and one run in another. Is he a genuine Ace? Maybe not, but since May 24, he's been terrific. Duffy/Merrifield as a combo? Duffy scares me. Inconsistent seems to be his M.O. - And hes expensive as well. I know 14 mil this year but isn't he signed for 3 more years? Or is it 3 total? I suppose if he and Merrifield came together that would be ok, might soften the cost blow if you combined the two... Probably get away with offering a Woodruff, Broxton/Phillips, Ray, Brown, and some lower guys as well.... But that might be too much from our end even though it would be "fair". Just looked and Duffy is 3 more years after this one at about 15 year. So basically a 3/46 contract. After the bad start he's been good lately. Has clear talent and ability to go deeper in games, which we need of course. Get him with our really good pitching coach and I'd think there's a good chance you can get some good production out of him and hopefully more consistency. Maybe that contract reduces the prospect price significantly so KC can save money thus making him a cheaper (prospects-wise) alternative to Archer. If they have a crazy ask though, of course just move on but seems logical to kick the tires on him.
  14. Along with them probably wanting him to get more PT, could a factor be that if they DFA Kratz he's likely gone and then if one of Pina/Nottingham gets hurt you have a problem. Basically this could be a depth move? I'm grasping at straws because I really wanted Nottingham up and Kratz gone. How awful was Kratz passed ball on Saturday? It actually led to Kershaw getting out at the plate and us out of that bases loaded jam, but that was some truly awful catching. I do grant he seems to have thrown the ball well though. Also for Nottingham PT, the backup catcher here plays at least 1/3 of games so it's not like he wouldn't be getting adequate games. 2-3 games a week isn't bad at all, he's probably only getting 4-5 in the minors.
  15. I would not. After Archer's poor season so far his price should have gone down. I know he had a great game this weekend but TB might end up waiting for him to rebound more and sell in the offseason. I'm not as big of a hater on him as many here, so I'm open to looking into it for the right price, especially since the price should have dropped in the last 3 months. But I'm pretty sure Burnes and Hiura are off the table for me. Though I'd love to keep Peralta long term, I'm somewhat skeptical on Peralta's long term chances and his hot start could be a good boon to his 'value'. It still wouldn't be easy for me but I think he's our highest rated guy that I'd go. Starting framework of Peralta/Phillips or Santana should get the conversation going you'd think.
  16. Brewers (Counsell) said about Burnes that he was 100% going back to the rotation next year. I don't believe they were ever that definitive with Hader. They are rather different too; Hader was barely using two pitches and had control issues, while Burnes has very solid command of 4 pitches and uses them all. I understood all 4 were competent and he had control as well so I'm guessing they just feel those two are best and since you're only facing the order once there is no need to get tricky.
  17. Just need at least a 4-3 week to stop the bleeding. 5-2 would be great, but at least 4-3. Win tonight is the first step.
  18. IDK what they'll do as a PR move, but one thing that popped in my head is the Isiah THomas/Larry Bird news conference back in the 80s after Thomas and Rodman basically said Bird wasn't any good and was only hyped because he was white. Like a news conference with Hader and several black and latino players while he gives a real explanation and those folks kind of vouching for him. After that just keep your head down and play the game. For a suspension, I just don't see how they can really do it within the rules. I'd guess the 'punishment' will be some sensitivity training, charity and volunteer work. ETA: turns out I called the punishment one a bit before it came out.
  19. Yea I don't know how this isn't Agent 101 after you sign a client at this point. Go through their FB, Insta, and Twitter. Done. If all there is stuff from when he was 17ish yrs old I feel like you have to try and give a second chance that now that he's gotten out in the world that he realizes things are a bit different. But yea the ones I saw were pretty bad. I just find it pretty hard to think that with how diverse baseball locker rooms are with 1/3 of the team being latino that you can still hold these types of believes or act racist/negative towards folks.
  20. though adding Cain/Yelich certainly increased expectations, I think going into the year there wasn't much pressure to 'must' make the playoffs in that you had WAS, LAD, CHC locked in as clear cut faves for the divisions. And after that you're in the next cluster of maybe wild cards and with the WC being the 1 game thing now it's a bit different. If we'd have just been 2-6 games back of the cubs and 1-4 back of the WC the whole first half everyone probably would think that was about right. Now though, after such a good run in the first half pressure comes in to not blow it or waste. So yes, I think after the first half and a guy like Jesus stepping up you should feel pressure to make it this year after it slipping out last year. Thing to note in 2012 is that we traded Greinke and still had that great second half push, weird but fun year that was.
  21. As fun as it would have been I'm fine if we've set our limit and don't budge. Move on to other options but as just said they have to add something to help out at middle IF and/or C. With the 40 man roster crunch I'm confident something will happen.
  22. Yup, there is definitely some impact. It's just not at the level touted. I don't live there either, so every dollar I spend on Brewers games, usually for the tickets/concessions plus any time at bars/restaurants, Poto, and usually getting a hotel a couple times a year is money MKE wouldn't be getting. But I'd be spending it in Madison or somewhere else.
  23. While I generally agree with the notion that having better starters would be ideal for the playoffs and to keep the BP rested now in the season. Obviously we're seeing the negative aspect of the heavy bullpen strategy right now with how taxed they are. But I would point out that come playoff time this issue is a bit relaxed due to the frequent off days. Essentially, a heavy bullpen strategy wouldn't be the worst thing in the playoffs because you can essentially have a fully available pen every single day. Basically the 2011 Cardinals and both KC playoff runs were done this way. In our specific case, I suppose the way Hader is used it might not work for him but come playoffs I'd guess they would be a lot looser with him. Especially since you know that if do you use him two days in a row that an off day is coming the next day so there isn't a long game to be played so to speak. Now, the real question if this can hold up for the whole season. If we can get to Aug 5th though still in the lead and healthy they should be ok due to all the offdays to finish the year plus extended pens in September
  24. There's roughly 2 weeks from ASB to deadline and about 8 weeks left after the deadline. So yea you get 25% more use of him if the deal gets done in the break. That's huge. And the break is the ideal time to get the logistical stuff all done instead of wasting 2-3 days of games with the travel/physical and all that. I think they do it during the break but of course we'll see
