  1. Yes, someone should have had him get rid of that stuff year's ago but we also need to stop caring about stupid stuff people did when they were teenagers. One thing I read about it made the great point that we, as a society, need to stop digging for every little fault to try and bring people down. This stuff has been out on the internet for years and it just coincidentally becomes a big story the day of the draft? Clearly, someone had the intent of harming his reputation and draft stock. Maybe it was an NFL team trying to get him to fall to them, but there was obviously malicious intent with putting this information out there. This is spot on and what's wrong with the current 'gotcha' media stuff. [sarcasm]Brings back fond memories of that Braun thread a couple weeks ago here...[/sarcasm]
  2. Some do, I have a brother in law who hires for a LARGE company. One of the first things he does is go to social media to see what kind of person is applying. A lot of resumes go straight to the garbage can based on what he has seen and read on candidates social media accounts. It's a thing, even if young people want to believe they are bullet proof. What do these companies think about people that have no social media accounts. I don’t have twitter, Instagram, or any of the like. I just started a Facebook account only for family photos I can’t identify people. I don’t post anything on there though other than the photos. Just curious It's actually technically illegal to look this type of stuff up and factor it into hiring (well, at least according to my HR). But yea, it's not like it doesn't happen. For today's controversy with the QB, I don't know how you or your agent don't go back and clean this up months ago. He should have personally done this like two years ago once he knew he had a shot at being drafted. Really every college football/basketball player even remotely close to draft worthy should go back through everything well beforehand.
  3. Last 6 games since sitting out those couple days with the injuries is 8/20 with two walks, so 400/454 and two HRs. Just need more sample before jumping to conclusions like this.
  4. Yeah, I think teams that are not in the playoff chase this year are not going to be targeting a Broxton. They would want to roll the dice for a younger player that has more upside, but may never even make it to the majors. I could see Broxton traded if another team needed someone (4th OF, CF injured) now as they were still competing and they trade someone that would improve upon our 2B/C. And a competing team would not want him playing in a pennant chase. Therefore, next to no trade value.
  5. I continue to wonder why we want nothing to do with Broxton on our big league team and sent him down last year, yet we think other teams will give up good things for him.
  6. While accurate and likely somewhat telling of them as a good but not great team. That really is the key to winning though and making the playoffs. If I remember correctly our 2011 record was massively inflated by assaulting the crap teams in our division of Pit, Cubs, and Houston. Still, that's exactly what you have to do. Win a huge percent vs those you should, stay as close as you can to .500 or hopefully a bit better vs the good teams.
  7. I thought of him before the year as an option of this years NEil Walker pickup to cover 2B if Villar flops. Looked at his info and just couldn't be convinced that he all of a sudden figured it out at age 33/34 and assumed he'd tail off this year. But if he keeps this going up to the deadline, why not.
  8. YEa two wasted seasons right in his prime by the suspension and thumb injury killed his counting stats for list like this and HOF counting stats to even make a discussion for him there. PED wouldn't allow it anyway, but his counting stats won't be there regardless.
  9. They actually finished last season really well (relatively speaking) but nobody was paying attention. Their offense was raking. Played above .500 ball from Aug-Mid Sept before quitting the last couple weeks. Of course they have no pitching besides the closer, but he got really unlucky their offense has sputtered to start which is what's keeping them from being respectable so far.
  10. My eye test on Santana so far is that he seems to be getting peppered with pitches inside. Obviously he's always done well hitting opposite field so maybe the scouting report is out to hammer him inside. IDK if that's supported by stats, but when I've seen his ABs that's what I've seen.
  11. I hate to be a daily lineup whiner guy, but I just can't believe with 4 legit good OFs that we should every be playing Perez in the OF unless someone is hurt. No need to be resting two at a time, stagger them so three are always playing.
  12. So for Villar has done fine, yea let him play and see what happens.
  13. All I ask is that Drake finally goes, I have no idea how he's made it this long
  14. I'm not saying never have an opening day in a cold weather city but rotate it so that there's only one or two a year. I'd think the owners would be in favor of it. I doubt the White Sox owners were excited about their two games that drew under 1,000 each last week. White Sox and Cubs were on the road for their first two series. Actually 3 for the Cubs
  15. But you can't make a team be on the road for 2-3 weeks. There's nothing that could've been done about this. In a weird way all the bad weather stadiums probably have home games now because most were on the road to start the year due to this strategy and now are at home.
  16. They do their best on that the first week, that's why MKE almost always opens at home for a week. They can't make teams be on the road for 2-3 weeks though
  17. People negotiate this stuff all the time with their reps. He just made it public.
  18. And not just two seats. He buys a whole bunch of them and the most expensive seats in the building, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
  19. The oddest thing about last year and this year so far is the incredible amount of close games. So there is just so much more drama and "ifs" to talk about and close late losses to be frustrated over. While forgetting all the close Ws
  20. Good for only like 2/3rds of the season though with the rest being too cold. And if they make the playoffs you'll have night games in mid to late October outside in MN. It came down to money, they simply needed to find a way to have a roof on a stadium in MN. I think NY should have too with the new Yankee stadium, how they spent like 2 Billion without putting on a roof is shocking. I know they wanted to replicate the old one as much as possible but that should have been overridden by common sense. Glad us dumb rednecks in WI were smart enough to do it.
  21. Yea Brauns' arm is fine. His decisions on cutoffs sometimes are wrong. But the issue on his D is just his instincts and range. I generally agree the bashing of his D has probably been a bit overblown (and I'm not saying he's good necessarily, just not as bad as made out). However, he's only going to slow and get worse as the years go on so it will be become more and more accurate.
  22. Yup, he was 40 years old, had an ok April, fell apart in May, but famously had a 3 HR game for numbers 712, 713 and 714 and retired a week later. In the John Goodman movie, and my best recollection of reading a biography when I was a kid, the Braves had made him think he'd eventually become manager there. He came to learn they were just leading him on to get him there and sell tickets. Then he quit.
  23. I think changing the title my be a valid criticism, but I don't disagree with your premise at all. We spent the whole off-season hearing about how Braun is still the best hitter on this team, how he would have been a hof-er, and how he was arguably as good as Yount. That alone should have told you how this thread would go. Bottom line is this: this off-season was all about teams finally realizing you have to stop over-paying veterans so much. They end up making 8-figure salaries while being worse than young guys you can find on the waiver wire or as throw-ins in trades. They often end up being negative WAR players for the last year or two of their contracts. This is partly due to PED enforcement, which makes it harder for players to maintain their production well into their 30's, and partly about the value of draft picks and pool money and all that stuff. But it's also just teams wising up and realizing it's better for your chances of being consistently competitive. Baseball is inevitably going to be more like football, where you simply have to move on from aging veterans more often. I don't feel sorry for them no matter how good they once were. They generally got everything they deserved for what they brought to their teams (salary, endorsements, etc), and teams are under no obligation to hold themselves hostage over players like that. On the contrary, they truly owe it to their fans not to. The natural next progression in being more rational about veterans is how long you stick with them when they're clearly past their prime. Braun's bat speed is clearly not the same. He can no longer do anything with those low/outside pitches that he still chases all the time. His body has been breaking down for years. If you can't trade him, the question about whether he even deserves a roster spot over guys like Aguilar, Phillips, or even Grisham could easily come up as early as next year. The Brewers have a sordid history of sticking with guys way too long even when they're showing blatant signs of falling apart. I think the moves of this off season and the games Braun has sat, combined with his performance, is an indication that they fully understand the issues with Braun and are more than prepared to relegate him to a much less prominent role on the team, and I truly believe they're doing the right thing. This is all valid. I just think we need a couple months to get to this point. We're like 12 games in so far, folks need to just bump the breaks on small samples. 2016 he was very good. He was good last year until the injury in September killed him. He 'shouldnt' fall off cliff this year though I acknowledge it's possible, but two weeks in isn't enough to jump to that conclusion. Kinda just have to sit back and let a few more weeks go by and also watch the ABs, not just results. Things like hitting hard even though outs, etc. Thus far that's not good though either due to his massive chasing the low outside pitch.
  24. I said it in the game thread last night too, I agree with what was just said. The situation called for Braun to man up both games last night and today while knowing he has Thursday coming as a maintenance day. Plus Cain comes back Friday so you could give him B2B days or give him Sunday off (when I think Yelich is back if I remember right). He'd still be getting two days off this week.
