  1. I think its quite easy to do so. That doesn't mean he did a good job or anything starting the way he did, but Reilly didn't do a good job either. He swung at ball 3, then hit a dribbler when he knew a FB was coming but got lucky it went to the right spot. The pitcher being generally good got it in there when he needed and throws upper 90s with movement on his FB and got the weak contact which is his job. Its baseball, you can't win every game and sometime just a few feet one way or the other make a big difference. Crap happens some times. Bad D play on a dribbler, a walk, then another dribbler through the crack. It happens, didn't go your way today. Its not anything to make a big deal or sweeping judgments about.
  2. Even if a borderline error its still bad luck/breaks. Guy gets mediocre at best contact but it goes to a lucky spot making it a tough play. Just like the scoring one, mediocre contact just happens to go to the wrong spot.
  3. Sure it was a bad AB by him since he started it 2-0 and was forced to throw a fastball over the plate. But it was a mediocre hit seeing eye single that happened to be in the perfect spot. Couple feet left or right and its an easy out. Combination of a bunch of things in a row at the wrong time. That's baseball. We get a kinda lucky bases loaded situation all after 2 outs, fail. They get the same, get a dribbler to squeak through the crack in the IF
  4. For a team so into the L/R things I'm surprised a moment like that they decide to ignore to let your worst hitter hit. And vs slider heavy pitcher who I would assume is way tougher on righties because of it
  5. This quick discussion made me do a run through IF free agents this offseason because they're going to need someone to replace Adames and I'd prefer them to be a competent hitter rather than a good D AAA callup who hits sub .700. Looking for a midlevel type guy that could fit us or a Hoskins type signing. I only spent a few minutes but nobody really stood out to me as good options so might have to dig up someone with a few years of control left or who's already signed. Maybe guys like Mcmahon from Col or Lowe in TB where we're taking money off their hands so don't have to give that much back.
  6. Good post. I know I've seen IKF mentioned a lot but Amed Rosario might've been the better target. Seems all LAD gave up was a 27 year old blah reliver in AAA who I think they signed for nothing in the offseason. As we know here (and TB is smart too) guys like that can be turned into contributors, but I just mean it doesn't seem like it would've cost much to get him. I guess I didn't really look at what Pit gave up though. I'd generally think a low cost move to add one of those two guys could've helped, especially if an IF gets hurt and you're stuck with Monasterio starting a bunch. And it likely would've had 0 effect on the future.
  7. Was thinking similarly on how it wasn't a fit for us. In addition, I also thought being 7 up made it where they also didn't need to buy/add significantly in that they are very very likely to win the division as is due to such a lead. Of course, one bad spell can kill it really quickly but it is very tough to blow that big of a lead with like 50 games. So, if you're already almost for sure winning the division what can you really add that significantly changes your playoff chances from the say 5% chance they have now, really nothing you can do would really move that percent. I suppose the only argument would be trying to get to the 2nd seed does move you a few % points but I'm sure any honest assessment of catching LAD as they add at the deadline and get their SPs back is very low. Now, say you were basically tied then some moves to really increase the division chances could be pushed.
  8. One thing I thought it is they must have a fair amount of confidence in Yelich coming back this year
  9. And well Phillips was traded multiple times as a youth at the deadline for some pretty good players
  10. Well I said IDK how he checks out at D. But generally speaking, the guys we're acquiring are not gonna be perfect or else they wouldn't be available and/or affordable for us. Our O is at risk of crashing, and two of our starting IFs have actively been crashing lately. As fans we've seen the main issue of the team for about 5 years now being crappy O. Well, to get some O might have to accept lesser D, while knowing your now utility guy would be an elite D guy for filling in and late game subs. In addition, a guy like Burger is controlled for years and if you find another IF could be transitioned to 1B after Hoskins is gone.
  11. Random guess (idea?) of an acquisition I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is Jake Burger. Controlled for a few years after this too. He was awful to start the year, but has been good again for the last month or so. Can start platooning a guy like Ortiz around giving guys days off and then you have depth if an injury happens. Ortiz/Turang have both been floundering lately so an improvement could help. In addition, Adames is gone next year so you need to add a starter to those 3 IF positions somewhere. IDK how is D checks out though
  12. Yea wouldn't be surprised by either and probably comes down to just who's the better player. I said it because Frelick, Mitchell, are lefties. And I think Perkins is better as lefty, but could be wrong. So essentially, of our 4 OFs 3 are lefty. And then the one on the DL hoping to come back is also lefty
  13. Not sure if a joke or aware, but he was traded to the Mets a few days ago. Just had MLB network on and their assumption is MKE will add a bat of some kind by end of day though. They threw around Canha due to the familiarity. I'd think a RHH OF would be the type
  14. Yea that seems way too much to give up in that deal. I assume Bal has a roster crunch coming too but still. Rogers has been pretty blah for a few years now, while in a pitchers park. With Bal trading away a ML OF last week I assumed it was designed to free up more starts for guys like Cowser, Stowers and Kjerstad. But yea I guess they still have so many guys there trading one more is expendable. Still, just feel like its been years of waiting for that good one year version to come back and it hasn't happened.
  15. Impressive debut with crazy good stuff. Obviously it's one game but you can see the tools and why they wanted to get ahold of him. Seems a very good chance this is gonna be yet another great BP find for them
  16. Can't say I really get this one. Junis has been looking good and I've been thinking lately of why not just keep stretching him out and you might have a 5 inning guy in a few weeks. I assumed that was somewhat of the plan with him when the signed him and paid him real money. Combine that with Montas being bad and I just don't get it. I'd have thought to stand pat rather than this, but of course keep shopping for the day remaining and see if there was a more reliable SP option to work out. But when it comes down to it and MKEs pitching history you just have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they think they have a tweak for Montas that will get him back to being good. At this point I basically expect it.
  17. I know a 40 man crunch is coming soon but I'd be surprised if he's one to be pushed out this offseason and just released. You're always gonna need depth OFs due to injuries and with likely seemingly relegated to almost all DH really soon. So why not the young one you control for 5 more years and know at the very least plays elite D. The following offseason if he still hasn't done anything other than being a subpar fill in though seems a kind of deadline for him though. But yea, of course if a trade comes up he seems available/expendable. Sure would be nice to start seeing some results out of Mitchell to have some trust in another of the prospects being legit, he certainly looks the part but results just haven't come yet. Just double checked and they have 7 OFs on the 40 man now. When you pretty much need 5 on the MLB roster at all times (since one will be DH in Yeli) it doesn't seem a bad use of spots to have two in AAA for injury and fill ins. Its not clear to me what Hicklen's contract status is for next year like with arby or where he's at so he might be gone leaving just Joey for depth.
  18. I'd think they have to be working on plans to replace it with something this offseason or at least during the upcoming renovations. I remember last year or possibly the year before I walked by that area for the first time in a while and I was surprised it was still there. Not that there was anything wrong with it, I thought it was perfectly good to go through once, but that it had been around long enough that almost everyone who wanted to see it already had. How about another golf simulator
  19. Yea all good, just saying if people didn't know their SPs have been massively hurt too.
  20. I know its mostly a wisecrack in regards to Burnes and all that so no big deal. While they do have him so they do have the better Ace, their starting pitching staff has been rampaged by injuries too. And for that stat of course relief matters and MKEs is better. Bal is also missing their closer all year like MKE. Kimbrell actually has done surprisingly well for them though, I expected him to be a waste of money. I still wouldn't want him out there with a playoff game on the line at this stage of his career, but good for him so far.
  21. I'd say we've gotten some darn good results from Perkins who started the year in that type of area. Gotta love to hear the Wrigley crowd get all worked up over a routine fly ball to end the game
  22. But this way you're spending more money so you're trying harder
  23. I ran through it quick but frankly I think the other plays were just a bit better so not much beef for me on Braun not being on it. He probably had to be in the next group right after the HM though. Only quick glance but one that stood out to me as too high would be DeGrom. I get he's a tough one to judge, but when it comes down to it he's barely played, Side note: for Brewers Greinke was on it
  24. I didn't mean them specifically. I meant similar guys who'd be available now. Basically, an elite clear clear upgrade like Ohtani isn't available so the replacement acquisition for Hoskins would be a blah guy in that same league avg area as those guys were for us last year. If you get lucky you get a hot streak at the right time but chances are they're the same area if not worse as what we're getting from Hoskins already, so why bother with it.
  25. Yea really there isn't another choice, plus he has been coming along lately so hopefully gets back to his old form by end of year. Sure, he's basically providing what we could've got for half or less of the money (another example of big FA spending not working well) but its not like they have or would be able to get anyone noticeably better. Then throw in roster issues as its not like they're gonna cut him and eat 30 mil. Basically, if we were paying him Tellez money you'd be like 'welp he's holding his own at league avg world'. Its just we're overpaying for it so it sticks out more. Its not like he's hitting at Winker last year levels where you just cannot play him anymore. Sure if you got lucky your mid level FA like a Canha/Santana last year could do better but its more likely people like that give the same league avg level he's been giving
