  1. Sure in general you're probably right in that you probably have a higher floor. But our recent samples here don't' really help much. Mccutchen, Bradley Jr, Winker. Got value out of dumpster guys like Jesus, Rowdy, Perkins somewhat, and some others. I'd guess the lesson is there probably is no clear set formula and each is its own case. But in general, that 8-10 mil "proven vet" slot we've had the last few years has flopped, and likely led to them paying up for Hoskins instead. And if I had to guess the 'moneyball' on the value provided by getting that 8-10 mil guy over the league min isn't there in the sense that both have a good chance to be about league avg players. But one of course costs way more and you can take multiple swings at it with the saved money. Basic example say 2 years ago, chances are the difference between a Tyrone Taylor and McCutchen is going to be pretty negligible but one costs 8 mil the other is league min. But you're probably generally right in the sense that a McCutchen is less likely to be a complete disaster so is safer And tha'ts ignoring pitching where we've made a killing dumpster diving others castoffs
  2. Hoskins is back any day, which should be the end of miller
  3. I'm not a bunt guy but with that bad of a hitter as your RH option maybe just try to bunt along and move things along. Then again, the guy couldn't get anything over the plate so there's a logic of not just giving an out away when he might walk you. They did it that way a few weeks ago where someone bunted a 2-0 pitch that would've been ball 3
  4. He dominated Monday and had two days off. Sometimes guys just have bad days and no one is to blame. He wasn't going to keep a sub 1 era all year.
  5. My look alike on him from first time I saw was former Brewers great Jose Valentin
  6. Yea Bryse has been huge to hold down competency with all these people hurt. But yea it'll be nice when they get a starter back so he doesn't have to be relied on so much. He should be a great 2 inning guy out of the pen. Similar to what they're doing with Hudson. I'm guessing they wait for the IL guys to come back and see how it goes before trading for someone though
  7. Yup, probably overthought a bit tonight and of course he gets some wrong like everyone does. But obviously he's getting more right than wrong so far and getting them right at a clip better than most to be winning at this clip with this roster and injuries
  8. yea right on the elbow have to think that could be serious. Sucks if that really messes him, long time minor leaguer who works and grinds. Finally figures it out, plays great for a month. Then have that happen to mess it all up. And possibly costing him his chance to make real money
  9. Surprised Rock isn't seeing that balk. We'll see what the explanation is after game and I'm no expert but seemed he never stopped before starting his delivery. Heck, this is probably a rule I learned from Rock at some point
  10. Didn't think the blue was needed on that one...
  11. I can't believe Dunn stared at a strike 3 right down the middle. No way that guy should be PHing for anyone at this point. You're there for D position flex at this point, that's it.
  12. I saw a jersey at the game yesterday spelled Churio. Made me grab my phone and double check
  13. I think I saw he also missed most of last year due to an injury. Obviously I have no inside info and didn't do any digging. But wouldn't surprise me if that was also pushed on him and all this has been an ongoing negotiation for a while.
  14. I'd also say RF would be more logical due to Yeli in LF. Yes some poor D OFs have played LF but much of that has been due to arm strength (like Yelich). In theory LF is more important than RF D since there is more RH batters. I'd also assume since he played so much 3B Black's arm doesn't suck, or at least is better than Yeli. But as other's said, if he hasn't been getting any games in OF its clearly not in the cards for him this year. Since he's played so much 3B that's probably the other position he could help if they started having him work at again. If one of the 3 main IFs gets hurt there's a big big need. Next year Adames is gone and there is only Ortiz to handle one of the other spots. And as of now Hoskins might be back.
  15. In addition to the O being generally good so far they have some clear spots for improvement as the deadline approaches as two OF spots are very very poor right now. Essentially, a month from now you should have Hoskins back and a league avg OF coming in soon after.
  16. Being 3 days in a row now and that they just got good/lucky games out of the platoon guys last night I probably would've let the lefties have a try today. Also, I think their pitcher tonight is lighter tossing but I could be wrong on that. Actually, knowing its all lefties maybe best route would've been to one try each day or something rather than a lineup full of lefties one day. Feel like sitting guys who've been doing generally well isn't best idea. But, it just did work literally last night so really can't blame too much for giving them another go.
  17. My so called 'instruction" was just also remember stuff they're right about and in general that its a long season so its usually better to take the up and downs in stride. These are far from controversial things or demeaning/attacking type things, and certainly not telling people their opinions are invalid or not to say them. Just trying to give some tips on processing a long season. Its really no different than someone correcting someone else with something like "actually (remember) this person's OPS vs RHP is xyx". You didn't say my opinion was wrong, you said I shouldn't say it though. As you said, you're instructing me on not instructing. It was definitely your intent to exchange comments as you jumped into something not directed at you or confrontational to anyone in in any way and led off with insults and namecalling. Really this all comes down to you overreacted and got defensive because I pointed out the guy was right about a bunch of stuff today which apparently you thought he was wrong about, and have continued to double down. But yea, as you said you're a devoted fan and into it which is obviously a good thing and in common. And hopefully you and everyone can enjoy the season. Hopefully our first place team somehow keeps it up with all the injuries and this ragtag pitching staff and so many replacement level or AAA type hitters they're being forced to play and shuffle through. I know this roster has no shot at a WS but hopefully can be entertained all summer.
  18. Who are you to tell me that my opinion is wrong, which you did? Essentially you're saying that you can, but I can't. Sorry for taking the massively controversial stance to also remember all the times when the manager is right and oneself is wrong along with all the times he's wrong and you're right while forming an opinion on him. It's ok to be wrong, I am, the manager is, it happens all the time when there isn't 20/20 hindsight.
  19. You are doing exactly that with this whole conversation. I didn't instruct anyone with a different view. I pointed out that that a bunch of stuff he was bashed for he ended up being right on and said to try to remember that before freaking out., long long season. That's it, ther'es no "view" there. Not pointed at anyone in particular. You then attack directly at me and insult me while telling me what is appropriate.
  20. It wouldn't even be paying the service time game. He's clearly not ready for MLB right now. Still, it could be the best way to 'develop' him and it pays off later, as we've seen it work out with others. Or 2months down there then up might have been best. Still, with all the injuries he probably wouldn't have been able to stay down long so its probably close to wash
  21. Quality response. So I can't express my opinion that overreacting game by game is a bad way to follow a baseball team over 162 games? 3 weeks ago, the manager was a moron for playing Bauers. Now he's a moron for sitting Bauers. He's a moron for playing/sitting all these guys today and he turned out correct over the armchairing done in this one. But sure, continue to bash him for stuff and then when he turns out correct say nothing like happened here. Wait for those great hindsight 20/20 times. Or being baseball fans for years we could just chill and know 'baseball' happens. People have sit out games, random jabronis have good games and hits at certain times, good players have crap games, go with the ups and downs, crap happens. In addition, I literally no where said to compliment every decision.
  22. So a day of and the early part of this thread dedicated to the manager being the biggest moron ever for playing these guys and here we are so far with Monasterie 1/2 and a walk, Miller 1/2, Perkins 2/2 and a walk. Probably just a reminder to chill on the negativity, baseball season is a long one so have to try to temper game by game overreactions On a joking side, I'd guess there is only like 3 good managers in the world based on the standards here haha
  23. Really don't get why you'd want or that its allowed to make your field mud on purpose.
  24. I think they said on TV they scored more runs off him today than they had vs him the rest of his career. Pretty sure one his no hitters was MKE. Another surprising thing is they said he's never pitched in Milwaukee. Of course he's almost always been in the AL but in 20 years still kind of surprising (although probably not all that much if you do the math on it)
