    Side note, with the two pitchers Pitt has for the next 6 years being paid so little they should at least make a legit attempt next year at getting some offense even if they have to overpay yearly money. Kinda like when an NFL teams get a great QB on a rookie deal it really gives you a window.

    I didn't know Bauers could be back next year. But still, he's only been ok and would seem an easy one to not give arby to and let go or trade in the Taylor/Houser type way, keeping in mind they're likely going to need 40 man spots. It's also an easy spot to save a couple mil by going with Black instead of Bauers. But hopefully Bauers goes nuts to finish the year so they have no choice but to keep him

    With Chourio playing well now you hope that eliminates the OF need that seemed there a month or two back. Getting a more reliable starting P with all these injuries could be a help, but there is also a fair logic in just getting the guys back healthy to finish the year. But still, someone mid level who's reliable couldn't hurt. After that, I'd say a utility IF a level up to take Monasterio's spot would be the trade target. Not so much that it would matter if everyone is healthy, but if one of the 3 starters gets hurt you really don't want him as your every day guy. Really not much of that matters for WS though. That just comes down to dumb luck at the right time. And I suppose getting the 2 seed instead of 3 could really be a big help on that front.

    If Mitchell is as good when healthy as discussed then he should be up and Frelick can take a break in AAA. You want him getting regular ABs and he could also refresh on 2B/3B to add versatility when he comes back up when someone else gets hurt, which is inevitable. Keep Perkins up because you don't care if he doesn't get regular ABs and his D is so good. Bit more Yeli at DH and let Contreras actually get more rest. Having this kind of depth is good in a long season. Sure, if a legit trade happens and you need Frelick/Mitchell in then so be it. But you don't need to be searching for it either.

    Yea his numbers are still not great, another month and he's probably the #2 hitter though? Gonna be tough to catch the pitchers this year though. And if not aware Jackson Merril on SD is just as hot if not hotter than Chourio, and he was much better to start the year so he's well ahead right now for hitters.

    Relievers tend to get a few extra late calls too when starters drop out. I'd probably say Hudson should get in and then Megill on the short list when replacements are needed. But I know non-closers get overlooked so its more likely the other way around

    Contreras hit one absolute rocket for an out to left center. Don't recall his others off top my head

    Some rough luck here to be in this spot. Good easy last inning. Now is stuck in this due to a bunt and a dribbler. Fresh pen it seemed they tried to get too much out of him, but really it was some bad luck last two hits.

    Yup as of now the development plan of letting him take his lumps for a while at the big league level seems to have been the correct path. Vs the other option of going down for a bit then coming back, or having started down for a month or so to begin the year

    I know of quote after quote of them literally saying the opposite, they've been posted in here. The Brewers are one of the best run franchise in all of baseball, some people are always going to negative no matter what. Again the thing missed is how the playoffs are a crapshoot in baseball so you can do all the tough guy 'go for it' and 'I demand more because I'm a real fan and you're not' moves and they're not going to noticeably increase your chances in the playoffs. But if you're a small market team they will definitely kill your chances in future seasons.

    No, they generally overperformed as a team. Obviously I'm not gonna micro analyze exact things as I have no idea, but in general they were an overachieving team last year and managers get credit (just or not) for it. Was another reason this Counsel signing came out of nowhere and was surprising.

    I would guess being the Cubs next had no impact on it and that they would've done the same thing if it was Miami or whoever next.

    Yea I think it would be 3 starts to get them through the ASB. They hope to get 4-6 mediocre innings rather than full bullpen days. He gets a shot to do well and earn a spot here or elsewhere to finish the year. If he does crappy like game 1 was, welp that's it. Add that to the 40 man discussion someone pointed out yesterday and you have a stopgap solution

    They are doing the Cardinals model, which recently won two WS. What's being missed here is a fundamental misunderstanding of baseball playoffs and how fluky they are. Essentially, if we sunk our teeth in the last 2-3 years with those ace pitchers we would've moved our WS chances from the like 10% chance they had up to like 12% (random numbers for examples) while turning their chances now and over the next several years to 0 because they wouldn't be making the playoffs.

    The management that came in 8-9ish years ago have actually said the exact opposite of that is their plan. But let's not let that get in the way of some negativity as 'fans' of a first place team.

    Yup, if Ortiz needs a few days here's a chance to give him a spot start or two there. And it sure seems they won't do it, so it seems we can rule out any legit 3B time as an option for him. Guess we'll probably know for sure in a few days

    Not sure why they're pushing him this long. BP rested from yesterday, off day tomorrow. We've all been saying to grab an innings eater blah guy for a few weeks, he is one of those so its whatever and I'm fine with giving him another go after setting into the team. Just needs to keep the ball down. But today is one of the better days of late to not have to force someone in there due to the rested pen and off day

    Cardinals down 4-0 in first of a doubleheader too. Things go right today they're back to I think a 7 game lead again

    I'd probably move on from this topic. If you don't want to have rich athletes who sleep around and/or don't frequently cheat on their wives then you're likely not going to be able to field a team.

    I wrote this guy off a few years ago. But not giving up prospects and hoping to get lucky its fine, if any pitching management can still get something out of him its MIlwaukee's. Throw in that he's a ground ball guy with the Brewers D and its as good of a last chance he could ask for

    If it was me on Black playing other spots, I meant emergency so there's another body there to throw out if an injury or weird pinch hit sub situations occur. Based on more knowledgeable people's reviews on his D it sure doesn't seem he can start in those spots or play significantly at them. But some weird stuff happens like last night and if he has to eat an inning in the OF or at 2B type thing, that helps more than having a Rowdy type who literally cannot be put out there anywhere

    While sure they should talk about it they haven't, if Black is as good a hitter as some here think then the lefty side of 1B is covered too. If Black is as bad at D as mentioned here then Yeli is better at LF. Of course if Black can't hack it then its wide open like 1B seemingly has been for 10 years. Side note, he's down to 4 years left on contract after this one
