  1. Oh yea I did mean Brooks Lopez as that's who was discussed earlier in the thread, didn't catch that you changed it up to his bro. Yea Robin is your typical D and energy big guy. Could bring him and Wes Matthews in together as they need the shooting. I'd rather just roll with the draft again this year and try to fill some gaps next offseason than spending 40 mil on just a serviceable player like Robin Lopez
  2. For me: #1 Jeff D'aMico (similar to Surhoff/Weeks talk because he did contribute) #2 Lawrie #3 LaPorta #4 Gamel
  3. Yea I forgot Ordazzi, point holds true, would we have a different view right now with a mid level SP like him, no. Yes it would be better to have him than not but you have to give something up to get a Cy Young pitcher with 2 years of control left (this isn't a video game). Our minor league system would be the same it is now. Only one of Cain/Brantley would have seen the field in MKE with Gomez and Braun there.
  4. I was fine with CC at the time. I think Greinke was a great trade. At the time I didn't like Marcum trade because I thought Lawrie was going to be legit, turns out he's a headcase and that's why they did it, good trade. Overall, the only major trade Melvin has made that was a joke was Carlos Lee to TX. The other ones that can be picked on like Linebrink a Broxton are minor flyers that didn't work out. I was generally against Lohse because of losing the pick but he at least gave us 2 solid seasons and maybe can salvage this one to be ok. The major reason the farm system is in trouble isn't the trades. It is bad, bad drafting and/or development. Would we have a drastically different view of our team right now if we had that Lohse pick, no. Escobar instead of Segura, no. Brantley or Cain instead of Davis, no? Lawrie, no.
  5. When you hear the same people for several years you're bound to get bored or sick of them. That being said, watch some MLBtv games when they jump around to random games and you'll see we're quite lucky. This is my primary viewpoint into other broadcasters and it's even a little in their favor because MLB usually jumps when there is men on base, can't imagine how bad it is when there is nothing going on. It's really shocking to hear the amount of dead air that happens on other games.
  6. I disagree on two of your points on Lopez. He's know as a bad defender especially against P&R. He's a post up guy, that means he requires the ball on offense. That being said, I agree with your price point and would understand that move. I would be worried about the 4th year with his foot problems but since he's giving a reasonable yearly price I see how it's fair.
  7. So they're looking to trade Lohse and Garza, but no one will give them anything for them. There is a slight chance they'll deal Gomez, probably won't deal Segura and won't even listen to an offer when someone calls desperate for Lucroy. Yeah, the future looks really bright. You're aware of how negotiation works aren't you? Can't just jump on the first opportunity, or if you tell this to Atlanta they know they better not mess around with a weak offer. What should be taken from a report like this is that they're trying to demand a lot for Gomez and Lucroy. Deadline is months away and they're in no rush on any of these guys. Lohse would be the most rushed but he was so bad until the last two games that he needs time to prove himself.
  8. the more I watch I tend to think he's a little heavier, seems slower in the OF and just not as athletic(such as no SBs and looking slower on the bases), which is maybe deceiving me to think he's put on some weight and getting a little fat in some areas.
  9. I don't mind the complaining at the ATL dugout. none was directed to the umpires as they don't have a choice once they see it. With the shenanigans between MKE and ATL the last couple years I like that he went at them. Everyone does it and for someone to snitch like that is a violation of the 'unwritten rules', especially on a cold night like that when the help is needed. And as Freddie said it's done to avoid his 96 mph heater drilling someone in the face.
  10. Exactly, all he had to do was wipe the blatant brown stuff off so no one could see and it would've been fine. the stickiness would still be there to help him. If I recall, gonzalez actually said they noticed during the first hitter but didn't say anything because he didn't ever go to it. Once he went to it on the second batter he said something.
  11. Also when thinking about just games you have to remember they don't get paid. Therefore to suspend a starter the equivalent of 4 starts he'd be losing over 20 game checks. Whereas the reliever would only lose 8 (assuming he pitches four of 8 as someone said).
  12. Kareem Abdul Jabbar trade.
  13. All he had to do was wipe it so it wasn't obvious and he'd have been fine. would still have a little stickiness on the arm to help with the grip but not a blatant breaking of the rules like it was. Just like he said after, he just forgot to wipe it. Remember sheets back in the day wiping sweat off his forearm and then on the ball. He didn't even hide it and noone did anything about it. He'd even where long sleeves when it was 100 degrees to get more sweat.
  14. No way 3B is an option. pointless to talk about. His body is brittle as it is, why would you subject him to that. Plus he hasn't played it in 8 years and wasn't good then, how bad would he be now. 1B is def an option as he gets older and assuming Lind leaves after next season. Should be less wear on his body and he's not exactly getting any faster out in RF. Give him an offseason to prepare and he'll be adequate defensively. I was surprised earlier this year when we needed an emergency 2B for an inning that Gomez went in for that instead of Braun. I think he had the oblique injury going on at the time though so probably why they didn't do it.
  15. [sarcasm]it doesn't matter. Braun, I mean Smith is a cheater, a liar, and a coward.[/sarcasm]
  16. If his name was Mike Jones he wouldn't even be rated at this point. That being said, he's so raw that who wouldn't want him on the off chance he improves greatly over the next few years, but yes a big gamble.
  17. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/2015-mlb-nelson-cruz-seattle-mariners-offensive-success/ Feel good article on Nelly Cruz, which is kind of funny since he was in the same scandal as Braun, who is a pariah to the media. Grantland articles are so long but it mentions some of his coming up and the trade to TX. Huge mistake by Melvin on that one. I remember hating it at the time, granted that was probably more about Mench, but my brother and I were wondering why the wouldn't give Cruz a chance. I suppose I get it though, already had Hart and Braun was going to get moved to left. Back then Hart could play center adequately though, and did as an injury fill in at times.
  18. Having a legit star bat like that in the middle makes such a big difference. I thought someone posted that since he had his days off and has been hitting ever since that they're .500 or a little above. Been seeing teams starting to treat him like his old self lately too in not wanting to pitch to him, basically got two intentional walks last night. And he took them rather than chasing low and outside pitches. On pace for 35+ HRs and 100+ RBIs in spite of wasting April. Hopefully he can stay healthy the whole year.
  19. Someone mentioned this in the Sheets thread but I thought if him a while back as potential media guy if he's interested. If he still has young kids he's probably not interested though. I think it could work putting Benny on TV in the Rock role and then moving Rock over to Uecker's spot on the radio. Not sure if Rock would view that as a demotion after so many years of good work but I think he's more cutout for radio than sheeter.
  20. Greg Monroe did it last year and Bledsoe almost did last year. Signed at the last minute when PHX caved. If Giannis and Jabari are legit they'll do their best to lock both up the offseason before it gets to that point, most 'no brainer' ones (Davis, Durant etc.) get done before that year. The borderline guys (knight, teague, bledsoe, monroe, etc.) usually don't because the team wants to see another year out of them.
  21. Yea I'm by no means a nene fan. seemed like he could barely get on the floor in the playoffs. his body might be just crumbling as he's hitting that age. I'd rather ride out the current route than try to do something like this in order lock in a low playoff seed next year. I want to shoot for the title in a few years, don't really care too much about playoffs next year. other than it would be a bad sign that the young guys haven't developed if they don't make it. I'd rather use that pick and/or mayo to move up to get someone like CAuley-stine if his background/personality stuff checks out. he's the type of C we need, yea he could flop but he has the upside to be a Chandler type.
  22. I wouldn't want to give up Mayo. The team lacks shooting and scoring so much and that trade would be moving two of only 3 pt threats they have. I get moving Ersan for a C though, maybe throw in that clippers late first rounder and a second instead of including mayo. I think Nene has one more year left on his deal than Ersan (but I could be wrong), so Wiz would be saving some money and freeing up more for the Durant offseason. MN getting the #1. They will have a solid core put together if Towns pans out. Bucks vs Wolves finals in say 2019 or 2020. NBA would love that...
  23. The politics of getting Miller Park built.
  24. Also, they can sign him to an extension the offseason before he hits that unrestricted FA year. I believe that's what you'll be seeing with Anthony Davis this season.
  25. you're supporting guys like him all over, you just don't know it. the media and MLB have put it right in your face though so I understand how it's tough to ignore. Brady did the same press conference as Braun, lying about it. Everyone every caught has lied about it until they couldn't lie anymore. Braun is just like everyone else. Look up what Melky Cabrera did. Yea Braun in hindsight shouldn't have said anything and just thanked the process for clearing him and moved on. But if you're in his spot at the time how can you not try to save your image, then he came out and had his best season yet. If MLB wasn't going out of their mind trying to dig up bad press he'd have been fine. Plush, you're right that it definitely affects the money that can be made off him and therefore the contract. That has become the reality that the old school media and subsequently MLB with their overcorrection have caused. I just wish people would see the big picture and not immediately get caught up on it and all angry about something that isn't that big a deal. I mean, they don't get worked up when Brady deflates a football, when a football player fails a steroid test, when anyone fails a recreational drug test, when a pitcher illegally takes sweat off his forearm and onto the ball, that NBA basically has not drug testing. Yet Braun is like the devil and can't be supported. Probably half that 2011 was taking something that was technically illegal, probably half the guys on the cardinals they lost to as well.
