  1. Who would've thought Jordan Lyles would've been so huge for us a few years ago. Of course these guys could flop but they could also catch a hot streak at the right time, get helped by new coaches, just get refocused on a good team/better environment, etc. Lyles would be another one that owes MKE a cut of his pay
  2. Thing is they do have a gaping hole at 3B. Seems like they rode the hot streak for Monestario as they should have, and its great he's helped out so much. But chances are he's going to be way under par over the next few month as regression hits. I like that some posters think Black can be the answer, at least vs lefties and hopefully that works. But not sure what options will be out there other than him or Donaldson who have a realistic chance to be good come playoff time. With the real trade deadline these days there really aren't many possible moves left. I know Donaldson has sucked this year and mostly last too. But he's also been hurt, give him two weeks of ABs and see if can be his old self for 6 weeks. Maybe he can be our Rafael Furcal the Cards pulled outa their behind in 2011. But, if their internal info is straight up to just not deal with his personality I'm cool with that too. I'd view this as a pure "hey, literally can't be worse than Anderson, hope you get lucky" type thing so its not like I'm gonna blame anyone or get worked up about it.
  3. Yea I get the point and all but he's not the first crafty lefty to be able to do this over the years. Can turn around look right at Miley too.
  4. Really wouldn't surprise me at all if the Brewers could fix Gialito into a good bullpen piece to finish the year. Won't happen, but him falling to MKE and how good they are at this type of thing would probably be the best thing for his career. Drew Pomeranz should be giving the Brewers an agent's cut every year. And if they got him, helped him, creating a good relationship maybe could be a good cheap one year 'prove it' deal for us next year to replace some likely lost depth people such as Lauer, Houser, etc or others who might be gone.
  5. Nitpick on the As. They just won at a 97 pace for three years in a row, then 86 one year with crap payrolls. The last two years have been intentional losing to move. I guess its still fair to say 'franchise' though as the messed up situation leading to moving is the franchise's overall fault. But baseball ops can still win if they want, so a bit of semantics but just giving the baseball side of it some recognition. They're not bumbling idiots (though our trade with them is a red flag) in terms of baseball, its everything else.
  6. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else but I think if he goes down for a bit they likely gain another year of control. I'm sure an expert will clarify. But, really it would be best for him to go down and play everyday and have them work with him on the flaws that have been discovered in his swing. With Taylor playing well and also perfectly good at D there just isn't much PT for him. Get a couple weeks of ABs in to hopefully get into a better spot to finish the season/playoffs.
  7. Thing to note is he's being paid 21 mil. I'm not sure on the timing of things right now and if he's still on waivers where you'd work out a trade with NYY. But if so that price would be several mil more than Anderson (if they did a swap). If he's cleared waivers already and is league min, then yea what do you have to lose swapping him for Anderson. Unless they view his personality as bad enough to stay away
  8. I thought that for tonight when I saw it. Usually the SPs factor so much into it and MKE having the clearly better one tonight you'd have thought it would be the other way around in spite of being on the road. Also, the top A team bullpen guys for MKE didn't pitch yesterday
  9. Very few off days left so it'll be surprising if one slot isn't used on a P and possibly used as an up and down spot as needed for pitchers. Everything noted by Nate above leads me to think someone like Hiura/Winker don't make sense. Essentially, Winker/Tellez are the same thing except Tellez has been clearly better the last two seasons. If Hiura isn't gonna play why lose him for next year. I'd guess a utility type Miller/Toro would be the remaining spot. Someone who can be used in various late game subs or to cover a day or two of rest/minor injury as needed to someone. That said, the fact Winker hasn't been straight up released seems telling that he's gonna be the guy.
  10. I used Keven Mench in that spot. Don't think it was as low as .07. I'll never forget the night they traded for him and he showed up in the dugout midgame and on TV they made it out like it was the second coming of Babe Ruth joining the team, if I remember there was some big talk or deal about the size of his shoes or something too. All the while I hated the trade so it annoyed me even more.
  11. It would depend on the medicals. If the doctors say he's physically unable to play (like Prince) then they owe him the money. Otherwise yea he'd have to go through the motions of showing up every year or negotiate a buyout. Sure seems like a Prince situation to me though, but they stupidly didn't insure it.
  12. Who knows on the butterfly effect. This might not have happened in the alternate timeline. This was always the tricky part of his contract and paying him like he's two players. He'd already had one TJ surgery (or a major arm one if not TJ) so if another happens will he really be able to do double duty long term. Really sucks for him and baseball in general that he might not be able to do this long term
  13. Fair. But to make a general joke on it, then why be on a baseball message board if you're take is that management is always right. I know I took that to the extreme hyperbole side so don't take it is a big attack or anything. Just in general saying, we're here to backseat GM, that's the point of it in a way. And yea, if we were Atlanta or LAD, TX type team just raking then why bother with a gamble on him. But with the trash options they ran out all year it's a very questionable decision with the roster rule quirk being the one thing lingering over it that seems to make sense. However, if I had my guess they just let him go in the offseason and are done with him. Which, I would guess by playing all the guys they chose to give chances over him like Winker/Voigt cost them several runs scored. I wouldn't guarantee it, but I know which side I'd bet. Which would mean they made a mistake, an understandable one and of course no one gets everything right. So not like anyone needs to be fired for it, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging mistakes.
  14. Voit is also 32 years old an no signs that he's changed anything that would be worthy of another chance in MLB, after he was given one, again, this year. He's at the age where there is no upside and likelihood of improvement/change is very low. The other guy is still very young where improvements/changes/adjustments still happen all the time. If Keston had made no changes to his approach/swing and continued to mash AAA like he has in the past I'd be more on the 'why would we expect anything different this time" view this poster has. However, he has made clear noticeable changes in his approach where it is logical to think it's possible for improvement at the MLB level. Of course its also a large possibility he remains a low BA/high K guy with power that is frustrating and not quite good enough. But a marginal improvement on his contact is all that is needed to move him from fringe player to positive starter. But really the main point is even his last 2 years of subpar performance is still better than the trash they've ran out at DH/1B this year. IMO, once I saw here on the contract quirk for next year I think they're so close to the end of the season that they don't think its worth blowing that option. Say he didn't have that injury maybe they'd have been open to giving him a chance with WInker and others being so bad, but once it got this late they might want to get to next year and try him as a very cheap DH (as opposed the the 8 mil one this year and last who both sucked). Also, after the deadline there isn't really as urgent of a need for him as there was say in June, they addressed it with trades. Canha is a competent hitter and will get tons of DH ABs. Rowdy is back and rightfully will be given a chance. Rewind like 8 weeks and you had 0 good hitters at 1B/DH. You now have one good-ish, one competent, and one you're hoping bounces back I'm generally on the side that current management deserves the benefit of the doubt on things, but that doesn't mean they don't get things wrong. And when it comes to assessing offense and building a competent offense, let's just say their expertise is lacking on that side of the diamond. When it comes to pitching, everyone should pretty much no comment though.
  15. Yea of course he's a good pitcher. But the team who's about to pay him like a Cy Young ace ace at 35 mil per year for 7-8 years is taking a huge huge risk
  16. Also, am I remembering correctly that Hiura has been playing all OF/DH in AAA? If so, it sure seems logical he should be getting refreshed on 1B. In MLB, he and Yeli can't play anywhere besides LF. With Rowdy out a while being able to play some 1B at least provides some positional usage for him.
  17. Solid A-Aron joke from Dillard there. At least one person caught it.
  18. A quirk of this that popped in my head too is that if traded to an NL team like LAD it could cost him an MVP. If there's gamblers out there it might not be the dumbest bet right now on whoever the #2 in the AL is or if there is an Ohtani vs field bet.
  19. Also, past the halfway point and the offseason champ megaspenders of SD and NYM are still firmly below .500. I'm generally not one of those on here who rant or hate on this, but it's still good to see. OTOH, for those who spend their time complaining how cheap MKE is and how we should be like them maybe it's not great to see though...
  20. There is no way MKE should even waste the time calling them on this, really makes no sense. If he gets traded I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up with LAD. They've set up their whole next offseason to signing him and I think they'd pay the price in prospects, which they're strong in, to get ahold of him months earlier and start the relations along with having him for the playoffs.
  21. I believe they get Bama in both 24 and 25 too. Two very tough schedule years, essentially Fickell gets one year to get up to speed with a blah schedule outside of OSU and ready for the big time in 24/25.
  22. I'd be curious of what is needed? From the average joe walking around perspective it seems perfectly fine, nothing is falling a fault or drastically bad. Maybe some clubhouse stuff and of course any modernization after 20+ years. Any structure maintenance to ensure safety, sure. And in general it's good to get ahead of problems before it's too late. They already upgraded the video screens, What is needed that could cost that much?
  23. Yelich now 50 points ahead and the guy many demanding 200 mil be paid to is at 702, Which is well below what Yelich did last year too. My main view is Adames is not one we should be looking to hand our next mega contract to as its a big albatross risk as well.
  24. With what's left on the deal and the fact that there is no other option that can really be expected to do any better he's not going anywhere for a while. Yea, he's not been good but what does cutting/benching him to play that AAA OF who was just up and looked terrible do? The money is spent anyway. Hopefully he can just hang in the .750 ops area to at least be 'fine/contributing'. But mostly wanted to note the guy that is awful and needs to be cut has a .703 ops and the guy the team is cheap/stupid not to have given a 200 mil extension has a .708 ops. And last year the terrible guy was only 20 points behind as well. I know one plays a prime D position and one doesn't but the point stands.
  25. I'd doubt this is much on the radar until Urias is back. He'll have been giving a full two months at that point. Mostly I was going to add is that he's really the only backup at SS right now too, which would be another factor in not sending down until Urias is back. I suppose Miller can play in a pinch but that's about it and I doubt they'd want to start him any games at SS. That said, yea it's not like it would shock me to bring up Toro just to shake things up. Let him clear his head, recharge in AAA and see if they can get lucky with Toro for a few weeks. It's not the craziest thing, but really they're about the same on O and you know Turang is elite D
