  1. Sure, but after having it be the exact thing that sunk them last year vs TB it's reasonable to have concern over it. That said, what the GB OL and OL coaches have done over the last chunk of years is a really underrated part of their success. They're continuously letting proven vets go and replacing them with young inexperienced new players and they keep performing well in both run and pass. This year might be the most glaring success due to all the injuries, starting 3 rookies at times.
  2. We need to stop comparing to the 2010/11 teams because those teams had nine and eight offensive skill position players respectively who went on to play in the NFL. Add that to the nine and seven OL who went on to play in the NFL, and they were literally a NFL team playing college teams. They do need to do some things differently offensively, but those 2010/2011 teams shouldn't be the expectation. I guess. But that's kind of the point to bringing it up, these same coaches made that happen before. They need to get back to developing and using people like that, especially in the OL. It's not like all those guys were some 4/5 star studs of talent like your post implies. They were similar if not lower recruited than guys in here now. Yet they're not being coached/developed/used as well as back then. That especially applies to the OL and everything starts with OL. I'd agree expecting record setting type like 10/11 is too much, but some semblance of rather than a clear problem isn't too much to ask. Especially since he was able to go to Pitt and produce it with even less talent. Obviously Wilson was the exception for one of the years so we said for years now get a real QB prospect and it'll fix. They got two top guys back to back in Coan and Mertz yet it hasn't helped.
  3. I doubt PC allows the new OC to change much in the offense. If anything PC is probably going to be the play caller again and they will just promote someone like Bostead to the OC spot. which is fine by me. I think I'd prefer more shake up, but I get trying to get back to what worked. This is the same setup that had the O humming around 2010. And let's not forget PCs Pitt offenses were strong too. And fundamentally I think the biggest problem with the offense has been the O-lines have not been up to the UW standard we got used to from say 08-14ish (Bostad years and couple after). So has that hindered options/playcalling? To me a big problem in the passing game is the Oline can't pass black the last few years, the QB is pressured almost as soon as he drops back. Or you end up keeping too many TEs/RBs in to help block so it's easy to defend if only like 3 people go out in routes. But I also see a playcalling issue with that same problem in that it's been very predictable on what play is coming. Less presnap motion, play action, etc than when the O was humming years ago. Too much passing from shotgun so the D knows it's coming. Regardless, a big worry I have on O is losing the WRs. Still have Chike who's solid, but UW of the last say 15ish years has never really had this many good athletic WRs like they've had the last few years, and yet they couldn't pass. What's going to happen now that there's only 1, and really no clear cut option to who else can step up.
  4. Yea I'd assume if this is true on Rudolph that he was kind of pushed to find something else as they were going to need to go a new direction after this year. But they're like best friends so they will try do it as nicely as possible. On the other hand, he just had some headlines in recent days raving about the younger OL and how well they've been doing in bowl prep. Remember a lot of those are very high ranked recruits.
  5. Very. Signed up for Peacock today just for this show and will probably cancel after one month. I've knocked off a few already today and it's exactly what you'd hope for, classic MacGruber. Essentially it's just another movie with a similar story but split into episodes. But the same constant humor is there.
  6. I've seen that speculation on Wong and I'm not sure I see it. First, I think they really value the D in our heavy run prevention system now. But second, he's basically on a fair contract (rather than overpaid like most FA moves would take) and I think they should value the contact low strikeout over a streaky high K power HR or bust type hitters. That said, I do think a Seager/Moose type could still work due to DH and overall they can be flexible to play 1B/3B. Especially since Tellez is still very much a question mark. Just don't think Wong would be one pushed out since as a hitter he's covering that area we've all been complaining for years on how they need more contact instead of HR/bust types. And keep in mind they just added another HR/bust type in Renfroe.
  7. Not a chance, someone is gonna pay him to play SS or 3B. Of course Id' agree and guess the same. But are they gonna give him 6-7 years at 25ish mil? I'd agree probably, or at least maybe. And if I'm him, I know my non Col numbers are blah and I'd just take the 3-4 year deal and never worry about money again if that's all I can get. But if he's disappointed a bit in his market (or market is made different by new CBA) I could see a logic to a 1 year then option on 2nd year type thing where he can try to get the 6-7 year deal next offseason after proving himself like Semien did. If he gets the 150ish+ mil of course he's gonna take it. Just saying with many big salary slots already gobbled up in the last few weeks and a few others still to go who are clearly above him, he might be seeing worse numbers than he hoped. And still like I said, I think if he did go this route he'd still pick elsewhere besides MKE, or elsewhere would still pay a few more mil than we can do
  8. With the other big SSs signed and/or left in the market. Is there a chance Story ends up going the Semien type route of taking a prove it deal then signing next year for a big contract (assuming he does well). Could be some teams skeptical to give him a big contract due to Col inflation of numbers so might think he could get more after a year if he proves it in another spot. If I'm him I'd just take bigger contract to be safe, but if he wanted to gamble maybe he could be one that falls into the Moose/Grandal mold. Though I'd still assume he'd do this route with NYY (or say Correas goes elsewhere then go to Hous) before us. For us, play 3B. Urias goes to super Util including learning OF/1B.
  9. In terms of Taylor discussion have to remember the likelihood of DH too. Good chance guys like Yeli/Cain/Renfroe would spend a lot of time DHing so in general just saying there's still plenty of ABs for the 4th OF like Taylor, especially along with likely DL stints here and there. Also, due to DH likelihood it makes sense to sacrifice D for O in a deal like this. This could also apply to the Seager or similar IF added discussion. We've kinda replaced Avi with this deal, but still need to add one more OK/good hitter because of the likely DH. Granted, at least it seems they won't be able to or have to make that last move until they know for sure on the DH.
  10. Had MLB on earlier when Buxton press conference was on, they put up the Twins lineup and pitching rotation. Their pitching is very very bad and likely have no chance. Assume the DH comes in, Donaldson by midseason could make a lot of sense as long as they pay some of the money or take back someone like JBJ to balance some of it. Hate to say it but I'd guess a move like that which only commits to a couple years of money is the likely route. Just have to cross fingers something shows up late in the Moose/Grandal mold due to so many teams blowing their wad right now and possibly some new constraint brought in by new CBA.
  11. Right, and generally speaking teams not with already high payrolls (Mets obvious exception) so there could be some trepidation from high budget teams until they know the new cap/tax etc. Unfortunately for the Brewers they're likely going to be waiting/hoping for someone who needs a 1-2 year prove it deal ala what they got in Moose/Grandal. With the massive dollars spent already (where is the old agent screaming collusion btw lol) maybe a signing like that could come to reality on a good RH hitting OF/DH/1B type. To the small vs big market talk. Yes, you'd think the 20ish small markets could push this towards a more equitable or revenue sharing system like the other sports. However, my understanding when reading into why it hasn't happened is the players union is against as it would make what happened the last few days more and more rare.
  12. I know we still kind of view Urias as a utility and he kind of doesn't fit the stereotype of a 3B due to his size. But after a brutal first month he still ended ballpark 250/350/800 with 23 HRs. I understand some skepticism since it's only been 3/4 of a season of being good. But if he generally hits like he did post April(and I thought he was good on D at 3B), he'd end up with pretty good 3B stats, especially for pre arb money. Basically, just saying with our financial limits we pretty much have to plan on him being the starting 3B Point of reference, Arenado ended last year 255/312/807 with 34 HRs for like 35 mil.
  13. Wasn't one of the big things for Rodgers that he had to change his throwing motion when he got to the NFL? If he'd been thrown to the fire and not had time to do that who knows how he pans out. I don't recall for sure but it seems like it could be relevant to what you're discussing here
  14. Not really relevant to us. But have some MLB network on talking about Correa. Apparently Correa was offered 5/160 which he'll obviously turn down. Talk seems to be that he won't end up in Hou as someone will outbid them. I'm just thinking why wouldn't Hous just keep him. He's only 27 so one of those rare prime age FAs. Maybe let him have the opt out option after 3-4 years or something if he wants that but why not just add on the 2-3 more years and keep him. They're a huge market that's been winning big time. They haven't spend on keeping Cole, Greinke is off this year. I think Altuve only has 2 years left, maybe 3 then his money is off. It just seems odd to me when big markets don't keep their own guys at this age. If he was 30-32, ok sure I see the issue and why you might walk away.
  15. I've been too a ton of football games in my life and I think I would comfortably say the PSU game was the worst one I've been to. Rainy/drizzle type weather the whole time. Basically nothing happened the whole 1H and lots of running the ball yet it was over a 2 hour half due to B1G Noon kickoff 6 minute commercials. Both teams played badly and did all they could to try and not win the game, classic 'does either team want to win this' type game. Summary, a bad weather, boring low action game that still managed to take like 4 hours or more. guess I do have to note I was at 59-0 but I try to black that one out, And well at least it was indoors and that OSU team was ridiculous to watch, tons of big plays, etc
  16. Yup, exactly right. I think I said that sometime last week too on PSU, really had no business losing that game but blew it twice at the GL. As someone just said, with OSU only being ok lately (for OSU standards) they still have to play both Michigans to finish. If the Mich schools don't lose any other game but one beats OSU they'll make the title game over OSU. So maybe we could get a fresh matchup and feel a bit more confident. Granted, both teams look good and Mich trucked us once already. But still, I think we'd all have a better attitude or confidence/hope if it's anyone but OSU.
  17. Seems like the perfect RH compliment to our starter. Elite at defense, seems well liked by everyone. As long as the price is right I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep him and I can't imagine he gets starter money from anyone so I think they should keep him.
  18. Wow, very surprising. Can't believe it unless it turns out his body/concussions are just way more beat up than we know. With such a good rebound year, possibility of DH being added to ease things a bit I'd have thought for sure he'd play 1-2 more years. Probably borderline HOF right now, 2-3 more solid years could've made the difference of getting in.
  19. Just a ridiculous horrible story. Just an FYI on the Stallworth example. I believe his is much much different. He had gone out the night before and went home. Got up early to work out the next day and hit a walking guy (who I think was kind of in the wrong in walking in traffic, but don't remember for sure). Got out tried to help, called 911 etc. Turns out he still had a BAC a bit above the limit. Much different IMO than getting in your car right after the club and driving recklessly. Calamity of bad luck for all people involved as opposed to willfully doing something awful/malicious.
  20. Yea I'd agree on that. It's not so much the plays being called, but they haven't been trained/developed to execute them. OL development isn't there compared to the past. QB you can say isn't ready, but that's on the coaches too. Best talent they've had it, early enrolled and is now in his 3rd year. To me I also don't think Mertz would look so bad with a better OL, like last game when he drops back and can set throw he's ok. They have to get the OL back to the dominant level it was from like 09-14ish of just pumping out NFL linemen even if they started as 3 stars or lower in some cases. Being able to run for 200+ even when they had Stave and ony 1 WR so were completely one dimensional and facing 8-9 guys in the box.
  21. As an FYI this is Chryst's first year back at play calling. They were wishy washy the last few years on who was calling plays but this year they came out and admitted he wasn't but he's taking it back this year. With how blah the offense has been since they've been back lots of people had been calling for it as a possible reason to why. Can't forget he was one of the best playcallers when he was OC and then go look at the Pitt offenses when he was there, where I assume he was the play caller. But so far since he's taken it back this year really nothing is changed from the last few years. It makes no sense why they've been nothing but mediocre since he's been back. Why he's gone away from the pre snap motions, jets, heavy play action, any deep ball threat is beyond me.
  22. Next two games should be somewhat easy wins (if you can say that with our O). Assume those and they'll move into the teens heading into the last two games and probably finish between 10-15 if they win out. Just think, they had no business losing that PSU game. Basically dominated the game but messed up twice at the goal line. They would essentially have the division on lock and be ranked upper teens right now.
  23. I know right, can't believe we've had to wait 7 days.
  24. Was thinking through this earlier. Assume the OSU L, they'd have 4 losses but all to solid/good teams. Still, don't think they sniff the major games like Rose/Fiesta etc or whichever aren't in the playoff. OSU goes to playoff and I'd think MI/MSU go ahead of us to one of those good games since they'll only have 1-2 Ls. Maybe Outback Bowl type as the peak and I'd still think the other Michigan team is ahead of us to that (unless they have some unexpected Ls to non OSU teams)? Or possibly both Mich schools get to the big bowl group, one to Rose and one to the Dallas one (or whichever is eligible) which leaves us for Outback. I was hoping for the Mayo Bowl as of a few weeks ago just for the comedy. Or Vegas or Music City for the fun.
  25. They are also the only two RBs they have right now. So you want to keep them fresh to finish the year with no more byes. Remember Allen is supposed to be a 17 yr old HS senior. Probably don't want to just beat him up like crazy and have him worn out to finish the year to take down OSU. Bottom line though, it's not 1995 anymore when you just hammer one RB to death. Everyone uses two.
