  1. Joel Sherman on the Brewers and Tigers. #Tigers scouts have been watching #Brewers #Astros systems could be about Verlander and/or Justin Wilson
  2. Which may well be true, but if I'm Stearns and if that's the ask for Gray, I am using some colorful language with Billy Beane. I agree. As I have written in other threads. I want no part of Gray. I think Grays days as a top of the rotation starter are limited and I think he is a tommy john surgery waiting to happen. With that said, Beane is not stupid. Some team is going to get desperate and roll the dice. Beane is going to get a kings ransom for Gray
  3. Gray is the top pitcher on the market and he is not a rental. If the Brewers want him it will require a package greater than what the Brewers received for Lucroy last year. Something like: 1. Brinson 2. Phillips 3. Ortiz 4. Diplan or Peralta 5. Dubon or Erceg Of course the Brewers could trade Gray in the offseason and recoup 2 or 3 pieces. That is, if Gray pitches well and remains healthy.
  4. I'm almost certain that Beane and Stearns talked. Beane demanded Brinson be the headliner in any Gray deal to the Brewers. Attanasio and Stearns talked and decided that Brinson is off the table. Discussions between the Brewers and A's ceased as the Yankees etc. decided to go for it.
  5. Thank goodness. The thought of trading away the farm for Gray makes me cringe.
  6. Jerry Crasnick with more on the Brewers and Kinsler: The Brewers, who are trying desperately to turn things around, are actively exploring both starter and relief options. As ESPN's Buster Olney reported, they've also talked to Detroit about second baseman Ian Kinsler. But this appears to be more a case of Detroit trying to link Kinsler with reliever Justin Wilson and move a veteran salary. The Brewers would love to have Kinsler, but pitching is their main priority at the moment. Kinsler has a $10 million club option for 2018 with a $5 million buyout. If the Brewers were to assume that financial obligation, it could lessen the player package Detroit receives for Wilson. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0681139156012765518-4
  7. They got the Cubs #1 and #2 prospects. Wow.
  8. I like the creativity here. Moreover this is exactly the type of out of the blue creative deal I could see Stearn's swing. However, my first issue here is that I don't have faith in Cooper. Check out Cooper's AAA home/road splits. Second, on the Aguilar for Pazos deal, Pazos was at one time an untouchable Yankees prospect. He has put up some darn good minor league numbers. At the big league level he has had major problems throwing strikes and Girardi threw him to the curb. I probably would not trade Aguilar for Pazos as it appears Aguilar could hit at the MLB level. Pazos will likely be nothing better than a set up guy. .
  9. Based on his numbers in the minors in 2015-2016, I think this kind of outing (a quality start) is what Suter can do if given a shot. A lot of it depends on just giving him a shot and cutting out the constant shuffling (Milwaukee-Colorado Springs, bullpen/rotation). But this outing, his dominance in the pen last season, is why I have had him at #1 the last few ballots. IMHO Suter's ceiling is probably something like Doug Davis.
  10. Yeah, I don't get just plunking Villar right back in the lineup. Its not like he had a bad month, he was terrible for about 10 weeks.
  11. I want no part of Sonny Gray. The guy is small and has been scap loading for 10 years+. In my opinion he is ripe for a major injury. To make matters worse, his numbers are declining. In 2015 he put up a 2.73 ERA in 208 innings. In 2016 he was bad and posted a 5.69 ERA in 117 injury riddled innings. In 2017 he has a 4.07 ERA in 72 IP. And remember most of his innings are pitched in the Coliseum, a pretty big yard. Moving to Miller park wont help. Finally, the A's are not dumb, they are not going to give him away. He is controllable and will command a premium. I have faith that Stearns will not get anywhere near Gray.
  12. Anybody have any reports on Cody Ponce? I though I remembered hearing he had some nasty stuff and a high ceiling? His numbers at A+ have been pretty pedestrian but he may be pitching to contact.
  13. Sadly, Corbin Burnes took his first loss as a professional on Wednesday. He gave up a whole 3 earned runs and 7 hits in 5.2 innings.
  14. And he's a jerk to boot. Here is a link to his twtter fight with Sogard's wife: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/08/rangers-pitcher-matt-garza-rips-eric-sogard-and-his-wife-in-offensive-twitter-rant
  15. I would strongly advise staying away from Hand. I believe that pitching for the Padres has a been a huge factor in his success. Not sure if it is a coach or organizational philosophy but it is worrisome: Pre-Padres 2014 - 4.38 ERA 2015 - 5.30 ERA Padres: 2016 - 2.92 ERA 2017 - 2.84 ERA The difference is just too striking to go give away a big package for hand. It is hard to explain, but it stinks of a Jeffress situation. Pitches well in Milwaukee and sucks elsewhere.
  16. They've brought in replacements. Replacements don't do much good if Counsell isn't willing to use them. Disagree. Hader and Espino are the only two "replacements." Three bums still remain. Torres has a 4.95 ERA Drake has a 5.59 ERA Peralta has a 6.66 ERA All three should be DFA'd immediately.
  17. Yep. And what if Woodruff would have pitched instead of getting hurt during warmups. We'll never know.
  18. 3 out of 4 from the dirty birds and a winning road trip. This team is really really making me want to believe.
  19. Knebel is filthy. I know I will get crucified for saying this, but I wonder what his trade value is? If someone were to offer the Ken Giles package I would think the Brewers would need to at least think long and hard, regardless of whether they are contending.

  21. Very happy that Stearns and/or Attanasio were able to swallow their pride and get rid of the bum.
  22. The Brewers picks pretty much make me want to puke. Here are my thoughts: 1. Hiura - I know many are high on his hit tool. I don't see it. To me, his ceiling is an MLB average second baseman. I would compare him to Rob Refsnyder or Kolton Wong. Decent player but I don't see All-Star potential. I agree with those who see him moving through the system fast and I would have liked him at pick #20+. However, I dont like him in the top 10. 2. Lutz - He looks like a football player. I might even compare his body type to Mike Trout, but that is where the comparison to Trout ends. He doesn't have anythwere near the athleticism of Trout. Moreover, I believe his swing is a mess and needs completely reworked. 3. Lemons - I actually don't hate this pick. However, my big question is whether his recent velocity tick from 91 to 97 is for real. My big concern is that he upped his velocity without adding much weight. Either way, he is likely 5 years from the bigs. Lots of time to add weight and hammer out the delivery. I hope I'm proven very wrong about Hiura and Lutz. However, I feel the same as I did in 2011 and 2012 with Gray and Gallo, respectively. The Astros got a damn good pitcher at 15. The Pirates and Marlins also did very well with Baz and Rogers at 12 and 13.

  24. Rogers reminds me of Bumgarner. Very advanced high school arm. I would be very okay with an under-slot deal if Greene and Buskauskas are gone.
