  1. Yep. Kino Stadium(formerly Tucson Electric Park) is the old D'backs and White Sox stadium. Also home of the D'backs and Padres AAA teams until 2014. From what I hear Pima County wants to invest $50 million(with the Brewers throwing in some too) and bring in the Brewers and their AAA team. This would be kind of like what the A's did with the Cubs old stadium in Mesa (Hohokam).
  2. Tucson, Arizona brewers fan here. Pima County (Tucson) is heavily courting the Brewers. News just made public. http://tucson.com/news/local/a-baseball-comeback-pima-county-reaches-out-to-milwaukee-brewers/article_3c4d2ba0-4f8c-55d8-8c69-fddf8ee15a09.html I have many contacts in the county government here and am aware that Pima County has been after the Brewers for close to year. I have reason to believe discussion are a bit more advanced than what was reported in the article.
  3. Stokes is always going to get downgraded in the eyes of national scouts because of his Caleb Gindl-like size. But if you look it up, as a 21-year-old, Stokes is putting up very similar numbers to what a young Kirby Puckett did in A Ball as a 23-year-old (young Kirby was a threat on the basepaths as well). The measureables are very similar. Granted that's shooting for the moon, but if Stokes ends up being even 75% of Kirby Puckett, you have yourself a valuable major league outfielder. I don't know about comparing Stokes to Kirby Puckett in any way. Kirby Puckett had a .314 Batting Average in A ball and career MLB batting average of .318. Stokes hasn't even sniffed .300 as a professional. If Stokes played second base I would get excited about him. However, at this point I view him as a small version of Ryan Cordell. Very run of the mill type prospect.
  4. They could spend some money on the bullpen. However, you run a big risk of signing the next Neftali Feliz, David Riske, Eric Gagne, Neil Cotts. I'd prefer the money be spent elsewhere.
  5. I didn't realize until I just now looked how dreadfully thin our 2018 bullpen appears to be on paper. Knebel will close, Barnes will be in the back end somewhere, Suter likely will be a swing man if not traded. Ideally 2 of those spots will go to Webb, Wang, Derby, Scahill, Ventura, Lopez, etc...guys with options that can be rotated to AAA to keep fresh. Torres and Jeffress we can offer arbitration to, probably for close to 3 million each(I feel like we should keep 1 of these 2 at most). I don't even want to think about seeing Drake anymore, and Swarzak/Hughes I believe will be FA. Probably need to fill 1-3 spots with vets that can fill the back end. There seem to be a lot of quality RH relievers on the market, so we should be able to get a couple very good options...just a matter of price. I wouldn't worry too much about the bullpen. Those spots can be filled with waiver wire pickups etc. Its not hard to bring in 6-7 guys with MLB experience to compete for 3 spots in spring training. Brewers could also look internal with Suter/Ventura/Jungmann/Wang/Guerra. And that is not even getting into possible trades. The Brewers are going to need to figure out what they want to do with Broxton/Phillips/Brinson/Santana/Braun
  6. Stearns whole approach this season seems half arsed. Either go for it (i.e go after Darvish Etc.) or sell. This middle ground crap makes no sense to me. Neil Walker is not the difference between Brewers being better or worse than the Cubs and Cardinals.
  7. I just saw Cooper is hitter 364 while Webb was immediately sent down after not even being able to make our pen. Yeah, that trade is looking like a disaster.
  8. I agree. I would also add Adrian Houser to that list.
  9. is this the norm? if the brewers are paying for the stadium, why should anyone get to use it when not being used. wouldn't the brewrers want the field surface in great condition at all times and not just used by any schmuck? This is the norm. I grew up playing on the Rockies, White Sox, and Dbacks practice fields in Tucson, Arizona. The leagues pay for the use and it helps recoup some of the operations cost.
  10. Stearns worships versatility. Scooter had no versatility. Stearns was going to jettison Scooter one way or the other. Scooter was not a "Stearns guy." My problem with the Scooter transaction is that Stearns just gave him away. I never thought Scooter had huge value, but I do think he was worth one or two lower level lottery tickets (think the Lind trade). With the Brewers not planning to compete there was no reason just to DFA Scooter. To this point the Scooter transaction and Corey Ray pick look like Stearns sole black marks.
  11. Oh yeah. Straight as an arrow FB and zero control. I cant stand Barnes.
  12. I'll add my two cents here. As others have said, the A's likely wanted Brinson from the Brewers. It appears that they did not have interest in our second tier prospects. As a result, the only way anything would have ever gotten done is if they had not traded Doolittle and Madson or were willing to trade Yonder Alonso. I have a feeling Stearns would have traded Brinson + Dubon/Ortiz/Ray/ + lesser prospect for Gray/Doolitle/Madson or Brinson + Dubon/Ortiz/Ray/ + lesser prospect for Gray/Alonso. The Brewers then could have turned around and traded Thames or Alonso. In the end, likely just too many variables to overcome. It also didn't help that the Brewers took a nose dive after the break and I'm sure Stearns became much less enthusiastic.
  13. I am of the opinion that this was the steal of the deadline. Calhoun is a top 100 prospect but is not a top 50 guy. The other two prospects the Dodgers gave up are not even in their MLB.com Top 30. I get that Darvish is a rental, however, he is having a "bad year" with a 4.01 ERA. If he improves being in the thick of a pennant race, the Dodgers just got a #2 for a bargain.
  14. That west coast road trip could be a bloodbath. I'm going 10-17
  15. Thanks for sharing. I'll bet the big trade was either with Detroit for Kinsler etc. or with Miami for Straily. Doubt the Brewers were involved late on Gray or Darvish. I'm just curious to see if it ultimately comes out as to what the "big trade" was.
  16. I wonder if the Brewers were the cause of this. I think it was San Diego that wanted a "Will Smith" return for Brad Hand and yet today he is still on the team. Im guessing teams were looking at what the Brewers got for Smith, Thornburg and Jeffries last year and how all three have done this year and had second thoughts. I think so. The Shaw-Thornburg trade was fairly high profile and has brought to the forefront the disaster that is trading major talent for a reliever. With that said, the Chapman and Andrew Miller deals are impossible to ignore. Without those trades those teams likely dont make the World Series. I suppose trading for relievers is a bit like playing Russian Roullette.
  17. The guys the Yankees gave up are much higher upside than Ortiz, Dubon & Clark so I dont really see this as a good comparison.
  18. Yep. Straily's calling card is giving up bombs. Bigtime pass. In fact, it actually makes me want to puke to think the Brewers might be in negotiations to get him...
  19. Yep. It also explains the Brewers link to the Tigers. Stearns is probably thinking he can acquire talent by taking on salary instead of giving up prospects.
  20. The latest from MLBTraderumors.com: Heyman’s Latest: Royals, Lynn, Gray, Rockies, Brewers By Steve Adams | July 27, 2017 at 9:12pm CDT Brewers owner Mark Attanasio is more willing to part with top prospects in order to land Sonny Gray than his front office is, according to Heyman. General manager David Stearns and his staff are reluctant to part with the club’s very top prospects, and Attanasio has been deferring to the preferences of his baseball operations staff. The Athletics are eyeing center field prospect Lewis Brinson, Heyman continues, but it seems that the Brewers’ front office isn’t keen on parting with that level of talent. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/heymans-latest-royals-lynn-gray-rockies-brewers.html
  21. I love how all the Mets fans responded with "Give us Travis Shaw" Makes just about as much sense as the Brewers acquiring Granderson. He has been terrible this year and hasnt been good since 2015.
  22. Swarzak is a rental. Yuck. Unless, of course, the return is very light.
  23. Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors had a live chat this afternoon. Here is a relevant excerpt: FeartheBeerd 3:55 Brewers trade Brinson and Dubon for Gray? Steve Adams 3:55 It's a reasonable start to the package but I assume Oakland would try to get a third piece involved there https://www.jotcast.com/chat/live-chat-with-mlbtrs-steve-adams-7-25-17-2371.html
