  1. It doesn’t leave Austin as anything. It is the off-season. There are probably a dozen plus other options. Between trade and actual free agency we could find someone better than Austin cheaply/easily. I think they would target someone with a better track record and more reliable. Austin could be decent or a total disaster. We don’t want Thames hitting against LHP.
  2. It will be interesting to see if there is a more modern day looking logo created similar to the current logo OR the current ‘M’ may stay. It doesn’t have to be trashed...though again, the Miller tie makes me think they would. Especially since the break up with Miller seems to be a big reason the switch is happening in the first place. For what it is worth the Orioles made a change, but still use the previous primary logo. So one could dream if the really hate the BiG logo.
  3. They get embarrassed by Illinois and people want to talk CFP? Lol at this point they should be thrilled to even play in the Big Ten Championship game. They essentially have to win out to have that opportunity and even then they don’t control their destiny.
  4. Yup and it hasn’t been great all year. Which for Wisconsin standards is super sad.
  5. That no one has come up with a magical solution to potholes.
  6. The retro logo rebrand is painfully obvious and I’m not exactly shocked if it involves a full rebrand. Seemed pretty inevitable they would dump the logo modeled after the Miller ‘M’ since naming rights are gone. I guess I was expecting it in 2021 when the stadium name changed, but the jersey provider change makes some sense...and I suppose the 50th anniversary. It isn’t a question of ‘if’, but when if you ask me. I will be so happy if/when the current logo is gone and the front scripting changes on the uniforms...one can hope.
  7. He has not played in a third game. Sweet TD pass by Coan.
  8. It hurts guys like Perez, but doesn’t necessarily make him worthless. Before a guy like Perez was an obvious #25 guy, everyone needed someone like him. Now you could have two utility guys. One that can play the left side and one that can play the right side (or corner and middle). That being said I suspect many teams may want to carry a bat that is totally worthless defensively (think Aguilar types) or as someone else mentioned a premier defensive guy (maybe speedy too) that is completely worthless with the bat. Than you would still want a Perez who can play a more meaningful role in a daily basis. It basically just takes his some of his opportunities away, but teams will still want super utility guys. I doubt it dramatically changes the super utility landscape.
  9. Not really worried about this game. It is at home and the Raiders offense isn't good at all. Raiders score less than 18.
  10. Lorenzo Cain and Yasmani Grandal on the same roster. I would be really surprised if Stearns starts piling a bunch of expensive aging payers on this team...I feel like he is smarter than that. Signing a 33 year old Cain to a 5 year deal was asking for some awful contract years, signing Grandal to a 3+ year deal is possibly asking for a similar fate. That is just a ton of risk that puts our payroll in a bind. I just have a hard time seeing us spend on Grandal unless it is a 1-2 year deal.
  11. If you are a fan of the trade simulator site these are the values. Brewers get: 144mil Astros get: 133mil (I think Whitley needs some updating value wise though...I’d tab it pretty much even) Astros would never make the trade nor would the Brewers. I bet Tucker/Correa is way better productivity wise than Yelich/Random SS is. Like...probably not even close. So instantly this trade makes no sense to them before even taking into consideration Whitley...it makes their offense worse and they give up a prospect that was one of the best pitching prospects in the game before last season. I get Yelich has an additional year of control...but I don’t think it is anywhere close to making it worth it on the Astros end. Sounds like some insane trade idea I would propose on MLB: The Show. Someone go do that and tell us how it simulates out next year.
  12. His odds are pretty much at zero to play against the Packers. I’m not celebrating the injury by any means, but that’s a huge game that just swing massively in our way. Walking on it is easy. It is the bending, extending, and twisting that is crippling. I hope he is only out a few weeks for the sake of football...but that may be wishful thinking.
  13. We are the only fans on this planet always looking for how we could trade our best players, I am really convinced at this point.
  14. One of Alabama/LSU won't even make their championship game, that will be an auto DQ if we assume there is another strong one loss team. Even if you assume the unlikely scenario Georgia (or Florida/Auburn I suppose) wins out and beats an undefeated Alabama/LSU team I really don't think there is any way they go with a conference champ loser over Wisconsin. Wisconsin would have their one loss being Ohio State on the road. They then would have to beat an undefeated team in the Big Ten game. Either an undefeated Ohio State or Penn State. The Big Ten championship game is very likely to be a play in game to go to the college football playoff if Wisconsin were to make it with only a one loss blemish on their resume. Wisconsin still has a long way to go though. They still have the Iowa game (not exactly easy) and the Minnesota game (on the road). To me the Ohio State game is meaningless as long as they don't get blown out. If they lose, gotta win out. If they win, still gotta win out. I don't like their odds being able to loss the championship game if they are undefeated. Seems pretty clear to me: 1) Alabama/LSU/SEC Team 2) Oklahoma 3)Clemson 4) Big Ten Team I don't think any other team is even in the running if we are being realistic.
  15. The Seattle Mariners are officially the only team that has never been to the World Series.
  16. Nottingham pretty much killed his chances having a terrible year offensively. For a catcher to get a chance (especially on a competing team) he needs to excel at hitting or defense. He certainly isn't a defensive wiz (although not terrible by any means) and obviously hitting sub .700 in AAA is not exactly impressive. I don't get the attraction to him getting a spot. He has been absolutely just terrible offensively in the minors outside of his short stint in Colorado Springs since the 2016 season. I would much rather spend a few million to get someone that can hit like Nottingham's ceiling instead of rolling the dice on Nottingham who may be an absolute waste of space on the roster.
  17. I think it would make more sense for the Brewers to keep Hiura and try to get one of Gray or Story outright. That seems way more "win now" to me. Using prospects (Burnes/Peralta/Turang/etc.) and not making massive subtractions to the MLB roster.
  18. Cash strapped Brewers trading away one of their main offensive pieces and then taking on $17mil dead money in a trade? We then take on major salary in Gray/Story (probably at least another $17mil). So to summarize right now we have added about $34mil to the payroll next year, essentially swapped offense between Hiura/Story, got an overrated starter in Gray, Hoffman who was hideous last year, and a terrible hitting catcher. Of course this depends greatly on how you feel Story would hit outside of Coors. His current OPS away from home is .756. So maybe generous saying he will be even with Hiura...maybe Hiura would out hit him, IDK. Figured it is safe to say they are aN offensive wash. While Story plays the more premium position we have no one to even play 2B and the market isn't great. So overall between 2B/SS I don't think we really get better...at least not lets spend $34mil and get exponentially less control better. Wolters "helping" replace Grandal is interesting to say the least. Wolters is horrid despite spending half his time in Coors. This isn't tempting at all to me. I will keep Hiura and go spend $34mil way better ways than that. To me "all in" means getting exponentially better and dramatically increasing your chances short term. I don't think this trade is a dramatic increase to our chances. For the same cost we could keep Hiura, sign Moustakas, sign Grandal, and probably snag a starter for the rotation. I could think of numerous things I would rather do than this trade.
  19. Our WRs are so bad I think any veteran could come in here just fine while learning the offense. Antonio Brown went to New England and played the first week there and scored a touchdown. I am just not buying a veteran can't come in here and figure out our offense by the time the playoffs roll around. Probably wouldn't even take more than a month.
  20. I have been subject to a lot of KC watching due to family...their run defense is BAD. Indianapolis ran them over like they were ants and I don’t know last weeks stats, but it sure felt bad. Felt like every run was a minimum 5 yards. Not to mention both those losses were at home. 49ers kinda look legit...as crazy as that is.
  21. Officials are strange these days. I remember the disagreement on the fail mary being a huge deal...that’s the norm these days and sometimes one official will just basically say “F You, my call is right.”. Now I usually see that done on plays with auto review with the overpowering call so that may be why officials will just let one guys call win without much conversation. I don’t get people hating on auto reviews. Auto reviews are done on plays that take awhile even pretending no review happens. They are amazing at initiating those reviews quickly so by the time they are ready to kick an extra point or start the possession change it is confirmed etc. I love that rule a lot. I also love officials let questionable fumbles play out just in case now.
  22. Given what a defensive liability Hiura is at 2B, his future very well may end up being at firstbase, without significant improvement. He can’t field a baseball either and first baseman still have to make many throws themselves.
  23. FVB I agree with your take, but I always get a chuckle when someone gives their take on a play and say “I was at the game”. I think the 4K slow mo reviews from every angle imaginable on TV was way better than your view at the game.
  24. Time to sue, as a Brewers fan "pain and suffering" maybe also be in play.
  25. Isn't that exactly what he was trying to do when evaluating the value of the players' future performance relative to the dollars that would be paid to them in the future, though? Speaking just towards the Packers signings, not exactly. I think he was more going for the notion we overpaid greatly based on comparable contracts and their production to that point. I'm not saying it is the world greatest article etc....but it had some thought put into it at least. Which is getting very rare.
