  1. Best NL Defensive Catcher: 3) Yasmani Grandal *forum implodes*
  2. Except when you won't, must've changed your mind in a matter of four hours: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?p=1246562#p1246562 Well this thread seemed aimed much more at long term pieces and more specifically guys way away from FA. Lyles and Gonzalez are a month+ from free agency. I don’t think extensions close to FA like that ever benefit the team.
  3. I’d venture to say the chances that happens is lower than 5%. The rotation was the problem this year...it was really bad. We tried to do it internally and the internal options bombed so bad most were sent to AAA at one point. Stearns is going to get one notable addition...at least. If not he should be on the hot seat and get fired if the rotation bombs once again. At some point this is a competing team with high potential. Add to it and overspend a bit if you have to. He shouldn't be and he won't be. Maybe in your opinion. He won’t sit on his hands and roll the dice on a bunch of mediocre sure things and a few internal options so it is irrelevant. If he can’t go out and improve the rotation I guess it is pretty clear he is never bringing a championship here. I don’t blame him for rolling the dice on the internal options this year, but clearly it didn’t work and it isn’t like going into next year the internal options are anywhere near as promising. He has so far stuck to getting a “good deal”. That is fine and dandy in general, but at some point you need to improve the team. Maybe this year wasn’t it, fine, but this winter you have to create a rotation you are confident in. Not roll the dice again...which was pretty risky after signing big one year additions on offense. Of course those offensive additional have been amazing and they look to be close to a total waste in the end. But Stearns isn’t an idiot and like any other semi competent GM will go out and try to fix his biggest problem.

  5. Lol...right...going to be pretty pathetic per usual. Ticket prices should be excessively insane though.
  6. That is a beautiful September on paper. 15/25 against inferior talent (Pirates/Orioles being notably terrible). The toughest opponents (LA and ATL) are both at home. Someone should be fired for giving us a stretch of 13 to end it and sandwiching our two off days right next to each other. Before the September 10th off day we will play 15 in a row, get a break, fly all the way to Baltimore to play three, get an off day, and then play at home again. March/April is probably the most brutal month. June isn't the most pleasant...but the second half of the season really isn't that bad assuming the Pirates aren't good. If the Reds regress, even better.
  7. Just looking at this. Being that we have a dome, what is the point of opening on Thurs and having Friday off? Friday opening days are kind of the best you can ask for, I think 2012 vs STL was a Fri opening day and it was by far the best opening day experience I've had. I also want to say they started the game at 3 or 4 as well. I would guess everyone starts Thursday and they want us to match?
  8. Villar is a solid player. He was worth 2 WAR last year and has been worth 2.1 so far this year. If he were here he would not be playing much 2B, but he'd probably be filling in a lot at SS and some 3B against lefties. The deal was something like 4 years $20M, it would not have been that big of a deal for us if he had taken that. [sarcasm]He is like the dumbest baserunner ever though.[/sarcasm] Villar likely will make that money despite turning down the extension. He is probably in line for $8mil+ in his last year of arby, made 4.85mil this year, and 2.55mil last year. That is already over $15mil. So he lost out on maybe $5mil or so...meh, not the worst mistake.
  9. Your plan only seems make the rotation worse...which I give it to ya, that's pretty hard to do. What exactly is your plan to improve the rotation? Because all you have said is keep Woodruff, let the trash walk, then trade anyone with a hint of value, put Peralta back in (downgrade), and mention (mostly) a bunch of garbage as possibilities. Your wildcards can't possibly be filling 2/5 of the spots (as you mention Woodruff in, probably a FA signing, and Peralta in your rotation). Seems, at best, similar to this year...likely worse
  10. Yeah, and while we waited for a bargain, Gio went to the Yankees for a few weeks. If we can lock them down - and probably do it for a reasonable cost (say, $4 to $4.5 million per year), I'd do it. We have seen other pitchers (Woodruff, Davies) get hurt. Plus, Chacin will likely walk. Gio Gonzalez was a bargain, as was Wade Miley. Stearns just opted to make sure every single potential young guy had a rotation spot and it imploded in his face epically. Lyles would take your deal...because, who is giving him that much in 1.5 months? Gonzalez probably won't take anything that isn't close to what he thinks is his max potential on the market this winter. It is a weak SP market, if I recall correctly, coming up and he is a little over a month from hitting that. Not too much risk if you ask me to just wait unless you get a great deal.
  11. Lyles? Let’s calm down a bit. There is literally zero reason to extend either of these guys before FA. You think there will be a bidding war for those guys? Doubtful, just pay them in FA. More likely we get a bargain waiting then somehow have it cost us money for not doing it in season.
  12. I will offer an extension to anyone at any time (essentially). It is going to be subject to the amount of risk though. No reason to really not. You can only have so many of such contract at once though. Can’t just hand them out to 4, 5, or more guys.
  13. In what world did the Cubs implode last year? They played well the last two months, we were just simply better.
  14. So can this guy they brought in even throw a fastball? Guy walks two in a row and you bring in a guy that might not be able to throw strikes with the bases loaded. Wow
  15. How about we win ourselves. That would be nice. I mean I like when the Cubs lose, but hardly a big celebration if we can’t help ourselves.
  16. When you're a star player on a college football team, every campus is a small town. I think people are grossly overrating how much people will care about this if he arrived back to campus.
  17. Someday there is going to be someone searching "2019 World Series Champions" and be really confused when this thread pops up.
  18. Pomeranz was the only real “get better” move. The rest was throw junk at the wall and hope it sticks. I don’t want to say just rearranging deck chairs, but pretty close. On paper we didn’t do much, but results...hey, I can work with that.
  19. Who cares! We wisely didn’t give him an extension because he turned into a negative WAR player.
  20. I think in a different alternate reality Suter could win a gold glove. He fields his position well, he hustles, and makes some spectacular plays as well My opinion was last year he was on his way to having a really good shot at it, had he not gotten hurt. Suter had zero chance at the Gold Greinke Glove Award. None, he isn’t good enough to win it. This is typically true for any position, but pitcher may be the worst.
  21. I suspect this coming offseason might be a lot like the last where he doesn't get the offers from other clubs that he wants and comes back to us in the end. He very well might, but what is his worst case? 1/$6mil? Hardly much of a risk when he may find a team that offers $20mil+ on a multi year deal. I like Moustakas as a possible resign for that reason though. I don't think he will cost much for a guy who can provide us a nice .800+ OPS.
  22. Hasn't there never been a mutual option picked up? Aramis Ramirez and the Brewers actually did it for 2015. The HUGE disclaimer there though is Ramirez wanted to retire after 2015 so if he went to FA he only wanted a one year deal. Ramirez already made well over $100mil in his career at that point. Moustakas...a touch over $30mil. Ramirez also was heavily influenced going to Milwaukee because it was close to home...he likely didn't want to go anywhere else...period...for any small increase in salary. Moustakas will take the near zero risk to go after a multi-year deal and hopefully double his career earnings.
  23. Minor additions can make the dumbest of impacts sometimes. Heck over a month or two months someone can pitch like they are the greatest reliever/starter in the game. You just never really know. Look at Davies to start the year...you never know. Jordan Lyles - 10 IP 1.80 ERA Zack Greinke - 6 IP 7.50 ERA And the postseason? All it takes is Clayton Kershaw (or whoever the #1 is) to blow chunks for two games and you are 2/3 of the way to winning the NLDS. Which happens way more often than people think. That is usually how teams lose. Stupider things have happened. Season is far from over.
  24. From what I read he can transfer and play right away. I am not exactly sure why and I also read he still has two years of eligibility. Also from a pure football standpoint I think Wisconsin would actually be the most logical. He likely has a ton of friends on the football team and I would guess a lot would welcome him back with a ton of support. Likely the best team he will get on and they have one heck of a QB prospect to end his last two years. Mind you he knows the offense and would arguably the top guy. From a non football standpoint I think it is overblown. He was found not guilty and that campus is massive. It isn't like a small town where you should probably move out because you can't avoid the problem (the accuser girls for instance). Regardless of where he goes he is probably wise to not partake in alcoholic events and get with random girls. So I don't see how a new school really helps him. It is hard to say if he wants to stay at Wisconsin or not. He will get readmitted so they clean up his record etc...but he can just dart after that if he wants. From what I have seen nothing has really been said in that aspect. I have seen misleading headlines saying he "wants to come back", but that is reporting he is seeking readmission. Which, as we know, he has to do to go anywhere else anyway.
  25. Why do people keep thinking Moustakas will pick up his option? Considering the buyout he is taking a 1/$8mil contract if he accepts that. There is almost no risk hitting FA. It’s incredibly unlikely.
