  1. Shaw can play 3B, 2B, and 1B so he has that going for himself. The only dumpable player is Eric Thames...or you can option Travis Shaw. If Hiura absolutely mashed the Brewers have a bit of a log jam of a problem. I don’t think I would personally drop Thames to go with Shaw, even if he is mashing at AAA. Because really I don’t care what a seasoned veteran is doing to AAA pitching. I’d option Shaw and make him wait for an injury (which will happen). Then he better get up here and produce or back down he goes. I don’t condone dropping serviceable players when someone can be optioned...especially dropping someone serviceable to have Shaw be on the MLB roster when he has been garbage all year. I’d predict Stearns would do what he has often done and preserve as much depth as humanly possible...option Shaw...or even Hiura even if producing. I don’t see Thames getting dropped without a productive Shaw in place.
  2. Agreed. I doubt Shaw just suddenly had a wrist injury. Brewers sure could have used that bat the last 4 games. I am more shocked it took this long for them to put him on the IL with the wrist injury. He has been battling that for most of the season and has sucked for most of the season.
  3. Forget the age factor, he had a K rate of less than 10% the last two years combined and after being promoted spike to over 20%. Hiura is debuting with a K rate of nearly 30%. Kid destroyed and overperformed for his age at every stop. Not sure why it wasn't expected for him to over perform at the MLB level compared to a normal rookie. Big jump yes, but Guerrero Jr. was no normal guy. I will temper my expectations for a guy who gets fanned at a high rate at AAA. Not sure why going to the MLB level will help that much and guys striking out 30% of the time don't typically provide much of meaning. It is really hard to predict how a guy will do when making the jump. Some guys sprint out of the gate and some don't. Some surprise compared to expectations and some obviously disappoint. Hopefully he looks competent.
  4. Probably the most anticipated debut since Arcia.
  5. Could move Jimmy Nelson to the 60-day IL for a short term solution. Not sure when the IL list officially kicks in for a season, but even if it was opening day that would leave him to be called up at worst May 28th.
  6. C'mon....Roegner got a vote over Keston Hiura? I could see Turang given what his draft status was, or even if you like upside, but a low upside, soft tossing lefty? Yah, that is Clancy for you. His ballot usually just ends up pretty irrelevant though (when it comes to effecting rankings). It was kind of annoying when the system wasn't very good and he could pull some random guy into the Top 25 with his #1 vote that is almost never anyone of relevance. Or spike them up 5 spots from like #25 to #20. Because we have had years when those guys in the 20s had real low point totals and injecting 30+ points into them created big shifts. He likes guys who produce, most of the time. Which often times includes low level guys who are college pitchers...who predictably dominate 18 year olds. Roegner fits that bill...had a stellar ERA as a 25 year old at A+. Which I don't really have a problem with. He can make his list the way he wants it. At least he provides an explanation for why he picks who he does. I would say at least half the people doing ballots typically take a quick peek at various internet rankings and then stats. Not like we are a super serious bunch scouting video for days before putting a list together.
  7. Wow, some of you guys must be spoiled. 1) Braun has been fairly decent even taking out the 6 hit game. Majorly streaky it seems, but overall the results have not been terrible. His OPS was .727 before the 6 hit game....yah not great, but certainly nowhere near bad. 2) Just because Cain has, so far, regressed majorly on offense doesn't make him a black hole. Is a .726 OPS really black hole territory? Seems kinda average to mean. The black holes are Shaw (obviously) and Aguilar if we are looking at overall stats on the year. Aguilar has really turned it around of late though and Arcia has been good enough to be competent on offense. Though he can become the worst hitter in baseball faster than you blink it seems.
  8. Nelson is on the 10 IL. The IL doesn't exist in the off season. Think Rangers needing to stick him on their 40 man roster every offseason to collect insurance money and then put him back on the 60 day at the start of each season. The Brewers put Nelson on the 10 IL this year because they obviously didn't want him out till June on the 60 IL if he could come back sooner. If they don't feel he is ready they could probably slide him over to that 60 day IL because it is retroactive and if he isn't ready by June it won't really effect anything.
  9. Sounds like the Brewers not only want him on the roster, but in the rotation when ready. I don't think fake injuries are in the cards to keep him at AAA.
  10. Oh yah, Anderson will get his starts regardless. Over the course of a season one of those guys is likely to be injured more often than not. though of course I guess Peralta could be the #6 guy...but I bet not.
  11. Anderson is gonna replace Peralta. Peralta to the pen. when Nelson comes back that one will be more interesting. After listening to CC’s comments on Nelson, that could be first second week of June. Well, sure, I guess Anderson could come take his spot sooner than that. Long term picture it is Nelson taking Peralta out of the rotation. I don't think it is much of a question that Anderson will get replaced by Nelson in the scenario. Gio - signed to start so I doubt they boot him on that alone...not to mention he has pitched well so far. Chacin - Obviously not going anywhere. Davies - Definitely not going anywhere. Woodruff - Highly unlikely. He has pitched well all season and the results finally reflected that the last few starts. I guess he could bomb a few times and be the odd man out...but I really doubt that.
  12. It’s only a matter of time before he replaces Peralta.
  13. Personally Gard needs it to not be fired in two years (if not next year). Even then I think he is doomed long term. It isn’t like he is getting them to Wisconsin...it would basically be having the Hausers fall into his lap. He has done nothing so far in his tenure and the Hausers won’t be a feather in his cap. Hopefully it provides a good year in 2020, but outside of that...?
  14. Maddon has a love affair about planning for us. Our series are the most important on his schedule I guess.
  15. If only 14 days of a baseball season predicted future performance too....
  16. Time will tell but one good sign is he already hit one more dinger this year than all of last year and just missed clearing the fence with another on Tuesday. Looking at his numbers so far, they're definitely trending more in line with 2017 than 2018. That would be the one thing that could be a legit prediction that he has turned a corner. Because last year he had zero power and this year he does...much like his more successful 2017 campaign. That could certainly lead one to be optimistic about him.
  17. Arcia actually has been pretty acceptable on offense so far. Though funny enough the defense went backwards once he started hitting. Pretty much doing what they need him to do at this point. Float an OPS around .700 with good defense. Buuuuut is it actually improvement or just a hot streak? Because really him hitting decently over 30 days at a time isn’t really a new thing. He had stretches like this last year and still ended up one of MLBs worst offensively.
  18. I think the most surprising part of this is that you learned something of use on ESPN. When the hotel only has like 35 channels options can be limited. Though in more ESPN appropriate fashion one guy questioned if Fiers average career made his no-hitters less relevant and impressive. Some people are truly idiots.
  19. Saw this on ESPN tonight: Occurrences of pitchers throwing 100+ pitches in a game. 2010 - 2,400 2018 - 1,200
  20. They are visiting Virginia this Thursday/Friday. Seems odd to travel that far to visit a school that isn't an option. By the sounds of it MSU only has 1 open scholarship, so they would either need to dump someone or keep 1 of the brothers off scholarship for a year. I hope you are right that WI is the likely destination, but I'm not getting too excited about it until they sign. I think it is one of those things where you do your due diligence and see what is out there/having fun being blessed with such an opportunity. From what I have heard they had a plan before leaving, at least pretty sure what they were doing. Kind of a “Well if someone wows us” we will go there instead. But really Wisconsin makes all the sense. Unless they suddenly get their heart set on a championship (cause sorry it will not happen in Wisconsin) I don’t really see any way to sway them outside of Wisconsin. They can be Wisconsin. That bodes well for Sam’s ego and Joey wanted to be at Wisconsin in the first place.
  21. Guerra was going to be a key player this year after moving all the young guys to the rotation and Knebel going down. Glad he has been up to the task so far this year.
  22. Big time sellers this deadline Of prospects
  23. Well, he just got bumped to AA today. So in about a month he went from A -> A+ -> AA with only needing 5 showings to prove his worth. If he is in AAA by mid-July and continuing to dominate, I would consider it a definite possibility. I expect him to run into challenges at some point in time, most likely with AA where he will stay all year. That being said the Brewers are definitely advancing him hard and quick so it is a realistic possibility. He is a college pitcher...or was. Getting to AA fast isn't that hard. Things slow down fast once you get to AA. Especially since he is a starter as it stands. They would have to make him a reliever to push him all the way to the MLB level this year. Look at Burnes, those kind of movements are normal for guys. Blow through A- through A+....then you get stuck at AA for a solid half year and then maybe get the bump to AAA if utterly dominating. Him at the MLB level this year would be massive optimism...not impossible he could be a September call-up...but man that is crazy optimistic and assuming he pitches like the next great thing without a single bump in the road till then
  24. It very well could work and if guys could be reliable it could be extremely effective. I will say for 99% of teams out there it just is not something that would work and probably why people would think it is impossible. I mean I count 9 guys that I really wouldn't be too concerned throwing out there for 4+ innings...all of which have seen forms of success starting at the MLB level. I mean that just doesn't happen....teams usually don't have that kind of pitching talent, or erm, depth. When Nelson/Anderson return that will make the staff real interesting and how they go about that. They could make some kind of permanent opener for Peralta or as I mentioned before more of the unplanned piggybacking style staff...frequency as needed. I could think of some past examples where a team has a number of quality starters sitting in the pen, but most of those teams had elite pitching staffs where piggybacking them wasn't really logical. Nor did any of those teams as many as we have. I think we are a pretty interesting situation because we have no elite starters and honestly no well above average guys either...where suddenly piggybacking anyone is pretty logical across the board.
