  1. Typical, money talks and now the Brewers will have a garbage stadium name instead of the name everyone loved and fit so well. Embarrassing we have to follow such a trend.
  2. Don’t forget the roughing the passer call against the Chiefs when the dude slapped Brady’s chest essentially.... My god the NFL has found a way to go downhill.
  3. Obviously age and the potential decline associated with that is piss le....but Greinke was pretty good last year. An All Star and honestly still an ace. You are pretty darn generous if you are projecting two of our guys to be better than him next year. You could argue he would be our Ace. That being said the financials and his age are way to complicated for our current payroll structure.
  4. Sigh, a 30 second inspection of this guys profile should have sufficed and avoided this thread.
  5. As someone who, unfortunately, had to spend a lot of time in the Chicago ‘burbs for quite a few years recently I’d venture to say the biggest “distracted drivers” age group is actually people between 30-45. Very rarely did I run into people 16-25 texting and driving (or at a stoplight etc....which is stil driving). Probably more dangerous anytime someone inexperienced is doing something wrong while driving, but funny enough the main culprit of distracted driving is probably older than 20s.
  6. Nah, KC fans are just happy to be relevant for once. It’s like us last year...hard for us to get mad at anyone no matter what mistake they make. I’m surprised that wasn’t be talked about more after the end of the game etc...they literally won the game on an INT for something irrelevant to the play to pull it right away.
  7. Saints were flat out robbed. The refs sucked in the game...they refused to call penalties at a disturbing pace. No wonder so many are continuing to not watch that trash called the NFL. In other news I wish they would start calling delay of games and not give BS timeouts. It happens way too often. Call the penalty.
  8. Can you imagine Harper and Machado in our line up...
  9. They must have been busy watching the Brewers when they got eliminated.
  10. Expansion isn't close enough to fix the next CBA and regardless I don't think the players will settle for that. If mega 6+ year contracts are going to get rare they will want more money in earlier years. While more jobs is great overall you aren't pleasing players on an individual basis. MLB teams were dumb for so long they dug themselves into a hole. I believe the last few years make way more sense, but good luck handing out money like an idiot for years and then suddenly deciding you don't want to do that anymore. The players won't stand for it. I mean would you just accept it if your employer decided he has been overpaying you for years and cuts back your salary/benefits? No, if you had the power these players do you would make sure to get your say in the matter in other ways than.
  11. He finished rehab and had a normal offseason, but he has yet to really do any real work. I think that is where the cautious approach is. Any player coming off major injury isn't going full in ST. I would assume he would end up in extended spring training if the plan is to stretch him out to start.
  12. There is a big problem. Players, for the most part, didn't mind the cheap salaries when they started out because they made up for it in later years. If teams are going to "get smart" and not pay for veterans and long contracts the players aren't going to be okay getting $1mil for three years and then get a HUGE pay boost to like $5mil when they are a perennial all star. When the collective bargaining agreement is done there will need to be a massive overhaul to the pre arby and arby years. Getting severely underpaid for 6 years and then be "too old" is a problem. It seems the only way to get a big contract these days is to ride the arbitration train and hit FA at 27-29. Take any kind of contract to buy out those years and suddenly you are trying to get the big payday at 30-31 which isn't going well recently.
  13. Maldonado was the same awful hitter after we traded him as he was here, he combined for about 2 total WAR in 3 seasons since the trade, and he cost about 7M for that time. I really doubt Stearns is losing sleep over that one. I didn't say he was, but it wasn't a very good move. We had a 40 year old trash heap revolving door the last two years competing when it came to back-up catchers. A solid defense guy like Maldonado would have been great, he is like Pina essentially. Bandy, Susac, Vogt, Kratz, and Nottingham....that is beyond bad. Of course he was probably trying to save a few million when we weren't expecting to compete...well, that didn't happen.
  14. I think I will see pigs fly before we add another $15mil salary to the books next year.
  15. Thinking the agent would have preferred the 4 year deal.
  16. He's making far more this season than he would have in any of the seasons under the Met's contract by a considerable amount. 3.25mil is a considerable amount? He gambled $41.75mil for a 7% raise this year....that sounds, less than ideal. Grandal probably breaks even next offseason if he takes the highest offer (probably 3/$40mil). Any issues this year and it was a hefty mistake. He also cited winning and ST location, but I am guessing that was a decision long after the Mets offer when the multi year deals were more like $40mil total where $18mil over one year made more sense.
  17. Right, but anyone with any understanding of contracts knows him getting $18mil in one year isn't setting up guys in the future to get that over 4 years. Actually I would argue $15mil AAV over four years is way better help for future players than his one year $18mil contract. To say he would get nowhere near the Mets deal AAV (someone else stated it) is false because it was already close to this deal. Really all he did was prove the notion catchers aren't worth long term contracts, especially 30+.
  18. Grandal stated he declined the 4/$60mil deal elsewhere out of respect of the stars before him. Outside of comparing himself to the likes of Molina and McCann I guess somewhere in his brain 1/$18mil is better than 4/$60mil and less insulting to the greats before you. Not saying he can't find a way to make more money in the long run, but his logic and reasoning is a tad out there.
  19. I could place those calls in a few minutes. Hupy and Abraham and maybe a few others. That is all we have now. haha
  20. Right, according to multiple sources that have been posted in the thread...that tv deal expires after this year. I would expect it to be highly likely the Brewers make a much better TV deal this time around. Yup and then inflation. Inflation alone has added $12mil since 2011. Plus a TV deal and I see $130milish to be a pretty solid guess. Considering we are competing and we are adding a lot of revenue $140mil (including short term money like Grandal that won't be around 4 years from now) is probably easily attainable if we wanted. Brewers On Deck selling out is a pretty good sign this is going to be a massive year. The team is going to compete and people will be filling the stadium from Day 1.
  21. They took a gamble and worst case scenario happened. I don't think he was projected to be such a high pick in the NFL when they drafted him. If Murray wasn't getting such high draft grades he probably would go the NFL. But now he can get a huge signing bonus in the NFL and get a hefty pro salary instantly. I also don't see the short career thing people are concerned about. You can get paid good money to sit on a bench in the NFL and not get touched more than 20 times in a season. If he flops that bad in the NFL he would have plenty of time to revive his baseball career.
  22. People who always have an opinion about what other people should do. People saying Kyler Murray is an idiot and should have picked baseball. Maybe the guys dream is to play in the NFL? Maybe he sees that as a real possibility? Let the kid do what he wants. Or the bickering and fighting in Facebook comments section about whether or not Jayme Closs should testify in front of court. One lady reasoned, "I needed to face my abuser in court." acting like their situations or themselves are anywhere similar...one lady even said, "Let her do what she wants, she has my full support." How full of yourself do you need to be to think your support is needed or even relevant for such a decision?
  23. Didn’t Stearns learn the first time he traded a backup catcher? Trading Maldonado was a questionable move at the time and it certainly ended up a solid fail on the report card. Especially competing now we should want a good backup catcher we can trust. Did last year not teach us anything? Kratz had some nice moments, but he and the rest of the cast sucked even more than the struggle bus Pina was.
  24. There is no trustworthy #2 option at all. Hard to have any offense in that situation. I looked like they might have it at the start of the season, but that has quickly dwindled.
  25. I don’t buy this at all. I think his market was just flat out not there. MLBTR predicted him at $67mil over 4 years. It isn’t hard to imagine if his market was settling in the 4/$40mil he might prefer this deal over that. The logic that teams would be willing to offer $50mil+ for someone without losing a draft pick, but since he did they massively decreased their offers just doesn’t make sense. If that was the case why did a team swoop in and give up a draft pick to have him for one single year at near $20mil? That makes even less sense. I don’t think the problem is the draft pick needed to sign. It certainly effects things a little, but not to dramatically change offers. The bigger problem was his questionable defense that got so bad in the playoffs he got sat in the NLCS. That would be a bigger red flag when handing out a 30 year old catcher 4 years.
