  1. I didn't say there was anything wrong with them or they wouldn't grow your money nicely. I just think people are leaving a lot on the table when going with a target fund. Why is there any reason to have something in short-term areas when you are 20+ years out? Why have anything in international markets which, at best, is a diversification tool with low historical returns? They are made to have zero risk (essentially), but 20+ years out there is little risk in 100% stock.
  2. BrewCrewBall is bad in my opinion. They make bias articles, how they are written is dramatic, and often times make article regurgitating what national media is saying. Something about that article just seemed wrong. Probably the click bait title that was looking for a desperate reason to consider us even with the big markets. It sounded like the script to the "Moneyball" movie. That my gosh lets come down to earth now...we won nothing and got beat by said big market.
  3. What is your concern with a target fund? I think I’m currently ~50-52% domestic stocks, 30-32% foreign stocks, and the rest divided up amongst bonds and whatever else (you’d probably know better than I). You thinking 90+% stocks this far out? As Old Snapper said I think they are pretty conservative. It wants a fully diversified portfolio with huge chunks in low return areas decades out. Personally I don't like that as historically it costs you about 2% annual return if you instead had it in domestic stocks. I also have a hard time getting behind international stocks in early years too. Historically the index that follows international stock markets has been comparable to government bonds. 2.23% in the last 10 years for the MSCI EAFE. Of course you aren't exactly in the early years and the 20 years to go area is where many think people should start to diversify and consider the risk they are taking. If you are okay with risk 90/10 is a popular pick 20+ years out. If you show interest in your retirement account etc. I think you can do better outside of a target date fund if you do some basic research.
  4. Well I can’t say that topic was something that was really covered in a high school government class. Not that it was bad by any means. Great teacher though. Students would ask his party affiliate and he would refuse because he thought it didn’t do his teaching any good. Though if you really thought about things he said and his profession it wasn’t too hard to figure out. My district suffered from (and still does) from a lot of newer younger teachers. They lacked the professionalism to separate the classroom from politics going on at the time.
  5. You did say 'every' teacher, so I imagine that's why he responded to it. Every teacher I had, not the entire state. To be fair the government teacher wasn’t bad. While he still wasted time talking about the subject at least it was a little relatable to the class and he he gave more of a “both sides of the story” view to the matter.
  6. We didnt walk out. We worked that day. Same here. _____________________________________________________________ "Rallying students?" lol "EVERY teacher pretty much wasted half a class..." Big broad strokes their buddy. You know not what you speak of. The professional teachers didn't allow their students to see how they felt, it's part of the deal. I have never, not once, let my students know my political affiliations. That’s cool man, it wasn’t a story about you. So it is understandable it may not relate to you.
  7. That pass was not that bad to Graham, but it was stellar coverage. Rodgers decided to take the shot in tight coverage vs. throwing it away and depending on 4th down. It wasn’t a bad game overall considering all the injuries they have had. Their offensive line is so beat up it was pretty impressive Rodgers wasn’t killed out there. While he got time often his guys either didn’t get open or the offensive line blew it so many other times they couldn’t make up for it. I’ve said it many times, but these receivers just aren’t very good with Rodgers. When he scrambles they hardly ever work their way back to him like he needs them to. That or they won’t break off of their route soon enough.
  8. Man Rodgers really blew it on the drive after the fumble recovery.
  9. I think teacher salaries are pretty blah overall. It greatly depends on the size of the city in many cases. And I’m talking city size not cost of living (which is a big thing to note). You can make a pretty solid salary if you pick the right district. I know a ton of small town teachers complain about salary, but at the same time they are living in a town of 2k where there are not many decent paying jobs with great benefits. So hard to complain there.
  10. Well I wouldn't be surprised if he is talking about his pipe dream out loud. And it probably wasn't a big cost changer to make it fit an NHL rink. Might as well do it for some events it will be able to hold and then the "never know" NHL team possibility. I believe the specific reason was for the Frozen Four.
  11. lol I will never forget when all the hoopla was going on and teachers were rallying students to "walk out" and protest for them. Every teacher pretty much wasted half a class time giving their politically charged opinion on things and literally throwing a fit in front of a group of teenagers. Bias misleading information galore. It was cringy to watch. Thanks for reminding me of that memory guys.
  12. MLS On a serious note, good luck. NHL is flat out not happening and I can't see what else would find success here. Something low profile maybe, but a major sport? Not too sure.
  13. Well who wouldn't want that? Pay based on longevity and not actual skills/performance. This coming from someone on such a system...it is such a tragically poor system.
  14. What Snapper said. Don't overthink simple retirement investing. I agree that once you get closer some type of low fee advising isn't a bad idea, but you seem to have a target date fund which should change as you get closer itself. (which personally I don't like target fund accounts 20+ years from retirement...but that is just me)
  15. Trading a not that special reliever for a Top 50 pick will never be a mistake. I am not sure how that could be seen as a loss in any form. That being said I am not sure what to think of this trade. I don't have anything against Claudio, I don't have anything against trading the pick, and I don't have a problem trying to improve the team. That being said it is surprising we couldn't find something similar without giving up the draft pick. I am surely not going to lose sleep over it. I think Claudio will end up being someone who comes in when multiple lefties are set to hit. He is good enough against righties where he can go 1.0 1.1 innings to cover multiple lefties.
  16. He lives in AZ. Arguably the biggest joke when it comes to public schooling for years. Anything, sadly, is better.
  17. I would actually argue that the bonus pool money is overvalued. It was once "undervalued", but at this point I think it is severely overblown by fans.
  18. High price to pay, but then again he fills a need people constantly complained about and thought a big part of our downfall was due to.
  19. Pretty obvious move right there.
  20. If you gave me $10 and said I'd get $20 if I was right I would say the Packers won't win their next three games. However, it would not shock me. Oddly I could see them going 2-1 with the one loss being the Lions. I think the Cowboys are a real force. They definitely have the talent to beat anyone and have a lot of experience on the team. I like the Saints coming out of the NFC though. HOF QB running an elite offense. As boring as it is that is pretty hard to pick against. When it comes to the Rams I just don't see them showing up when it matters oddly enough. The one thing going for them though is they like won't have to play in the bitter cold at any point. Their defense is pitiful though...really bad.
  21. If Texas can make more money in the Big Ten or SEC then they’ll have no problem leaving the Big 12. Same with Oklahoma. And once one of the leaves it’ll be a mad scramble for all the other teams to get out so don’t end up on the outside looking in like UConn and Cincinnati did when the Big East broke up. I don’t like it. I actually think the Big East could have been a solid conference had everyone stuck around but it is what it is. Right, teams already wanted to do this the last time the B1G was adding, but Texas has to leave first or no conference is picking them up. I don't think it helps matters that the playoff will eventually expand to 8 teams. Even more of a reason for teams to feel motivated to keep the Big 12 alive.
  22. I don't get people's confidence in the Packers winning out. It's actually amazing to me. This is a team that lost to ARI at home and very nearly SF at home. Have they won 2 games in a row all year? I don't think they have. Even if they pull that off, I agree most of the other criteria is likely to happen, except for Minny losing two. Don't think that will happen. Never said I was confident, but I don't think it is crazy to ponder. Two of the teams they play are worse than them (Jets/Lions). Look at that you only need one game to fall your way, this week, against the Bears. I think it is pretty funny you were judging people for not thinking the Packers were that bad because they just barely lost a ton of games...but here you are now point to the SF that they barely won. Can't have it both ways man. Also they barely lost to arguably the Super Bowl favorite by 2 points on the road. A game they might have won had someone not taken a kick out of the end zone. While the Bears may be notably better on paper I can't recall many times talent level ever mattered in this matchup. They always seem to have a deathmatch to the end.
  23. For the record the Brewers celebrated their 25th anniversary in 1994. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2010. Who knows when they will celebrate the 50th. Next year
  24. Arizona isn't much of an issue if you ask me. It isn't like no one wants to support them and they may be forced to relocate far far away. They want to move out of Phoenix, but sounds like that won't be an option for years. . Arizona doesn't have a team issue, they have a stadium issue. The stadium has many fault in terms of design. It's likely we'll hear about a new stadium being paid for by the native American tribe in the next 3-5 years. Right, so not really an issue. The problem is something in the agreement where the D Backs think they deserve money for upgrades, but Phoenix refuses to pay them anything. AND the D Backs were like fine we will leave, but Phoenix said oh no you aren’t. The question isn’t if they will get one near Phoenix, it is when. Thus not really a concern.
  25. The Reds getting Realmuto would be great. What a terrible long term move that would be.
