  1. This game is so big mentally for the team. 1 game back vs. 3 games back. Also, wow, the Dodgers have really faltered lately. Nearly a +100 run differential...yet no postseason spot this second.
  2. Moustakas has hit Quintana pretty well in his career and Pérez is scorching hot AND has mashed lefties this year. School on the other hand has been terrible lately with the bat. Not exactly shocked he sat this one out. Long term he would see more starts vs. lefties...but short term it made sense.
  3. That’s why teams don’t hit and run anymore. Should be two on instead it is two outs.
  4. This team used to be fun to watch. Now they just tick you off more than they win...heck even half the time they win.
  5. Hernan Perez is especially impressive because he can play average defense no matter where he plays. Most of the time with a utility guy there is somewhere they can play...but really shouldn't. Even at SS Hernan Perez holds his own. In half a seasons worth of playing time he only has TWO errors, neither of which were on the left side of the infield! When he can float a 90 OPS+ he is pretty nice to have around. Right now he has been worth 1.1 WAR which in a half season worth of work is not bad at all on the bench. The consistency in his game the last three years is why he has a spot on our bench and likely will next year too. It can be really hard to find serviceable bench guys that you know you can depend on. I think Perez tends to have an OPS north of .800 against lefties. Which comes in handy when Travis Shaw is, well, a lefty bat.
  6. It is pretty simple honestly. Milwaukee-Fresno Washington-Nashville Oakland-Las Vegas. It is whatever I guess. Fresno is a nightmare to get someone from AAA to the MLB level if we are on the East Coast. Honestly though I don't see that being a huge deal often.
  7. That is a bit over the top. Mike Trout, while great, is still insanely expensive. Not only that, but he is only controllable another two years. I'm guessing Hader/Yelich is a lot closer to an even swap than you would think. Yelich is controllable another 4 years and is cheap...Hader another 5 years and really cheap. Now, yes, Trout puts all his value at one position where as Hader/Yelich/Hiura are at three positions. Even then that is a crazy amount of surplus value and wouldn't shock me if it is higher than Trout. The Angels would be brilliant to pull off such a trade...pure brilliance. Personally they would have to be pretty dumb not to take those two and our top two prospects. Your floor in that deal is 4+ years of two players worth about 6+ WAR together. Problem is I don't see a team trading two elite players at their respective positions...which is about the only way you could entice a trade. They wouldn't dare do it for a bunch of prospects.
  8. Lol...three walks and he is still in there. Ahhhh Counsell.
  9. 1st open and the pitcher coming up. Yup, 3-2 down the middle should do.
  10. If Schoop is terrible for the rest of the year he will cost almost $10mil. Pretty easy to see why he could be released. He hasn’t been worth $10mil this entire year...even before getting here. That being said I doubt he gets released, even if it is warranted.
  11. Yah I was never particularly thrilled with that trade, even from the start. 3.5 or 4.5 years of Will Smith (whatever it was) and we got a once good catching prospect and a nice pitching prospect...but one seemed destined for a high leverage bullpen role. Seemed like a light return and now looks terrible because we started competing so fast and our return is absolute junk now.
  12. You can compare the two. Just makes Counsell look like an idiot if he was in his “doghouse”. Stearns gets the blame regardless if it ends up looking terrible. He is the one letting a manager decide what he does based on his “doghouse”. Someone’s fault...just who do you want to blame for it. Which honestly I’m not sure if that is a legitimate rumor.
  13. Yup! And when he finds out they don’t...too late. That is why they said it.
  14. One thing I really hate about this is the fact Schoop will find himself on the bench a lot of days and I find Villar as a more attractive bench option. Works better ABs and has more speed. Literally the only thing Schoop even has on Villar is his “ability” to play SS. Production wise I’m not sure you can say difinitively which is better moving forward. If Schoop hits like crud this year this is going to be a really garbage trade. You could claim we would non tender Villar at the end of the year, valid point and quite likely. People also mention Schoop has an additional year of control, however two things with that: 1) I doubt we hold back Hiura long in favor of Schoop...especially if Schoop isn’t hitting. This makes him a bench bat often next year. 2) More importantly Schoop is already making $8.5mil! If people are calling for Villar to be non-tendered at $2.55mil this year what exactly is the point to tendering Schoop at probably $10mil+. Schoop has been worse than Villar to date. This trade is mainly about this year. That’s where he is most important...so far he has been awful. This could look terrible as just a Villar/Schoop swap...let alone giving up Ortiz and Carmona too. Lots of time to change that though and in a competitive year a hot streak at the right time could put him in Brewers lore forever. Early results not looking very good.
  15. Could be worse. Imagine if Yelich and Cain were never acquired, and those spots were being filled by Phillips and Broxton. Brinson/Phillips Not that it is any better that way.
  16. Pure genius. The rules should obviously prevent this, but if they do not it is silly that teams have a catcher to begin the inning. Until you beat it into the ground by bunting and walk to first.
  17. I’m going to put this here cause I don’t feel the need to start a new thread...but: If we find ourselves in the wild card game (hopefully not and I believe we can win our division) do you: A) Ride your starter like any normal game B) Make it a bullpen game and worry about the NLDS when you get there. By bullpen game I am for the most part referring to pulling your starter after 4 innings. Maybe he goes a bit longer, but you pull him at even the thought of a struggle. Now I know many are going to complain because you won’t have many or most of your good bullpen arms for the first game of the NLDS, but I would rather do whatever it takes to get to the NLDS and if my bullpen ends up punting game one of the NLDS so be it. Our offense may score zero in the first game making our bullpen pointless anyway. While we don’t have an ace in our rotation our bullpen might actually just be better suited for a one game playoff.
  18. They would never do it, but I’d give Bellinger one right to the ribs next time he is up. What a ridiculous celebration. Run the bases ya loser.
  19. Well there is the game. Dodgers have an extra player on their side behind the plate.
