  1. Garza has surplus value. How this is still being argued is amazing.
  2. Yup it will largely come down to divisional games. We get to play the Reds and Cardinals a lot and we have faired well against them. However we also play the Pirates a lot down the stretch and we just haven't played well against them.
  3. He doesn't consistently throw 98.
  4. Shuckers come back to win series opener against M-Braves Gabriel Noriega hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth for the game winner By Biloxi Shuckers Gabriel Noriega had the game winning hit with two outs in the ninth inning (Michael Krebs) http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2017_08_04_blxaax_msbaax_1&t=g_box&sid=t5015 Quick Summary: The Shuckers couldn't muster an extra base hit all day, but seven walks helped them prove victorious with a 7-6 win. Gabriel Noriega's single to score two in the 9th inning was the difference maker. Aaron Wilkerson was wild giving up four runs and walking five in four innings of work. The bullpen saved the day recording five scoreless innings to give the offense a chance to make the comeback. Pitching Summary: On the mound, Aaron Wilkerson (4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 5 K) started the game while Josh Uhen (2.0 IP, H, BB, K), Jorge Lopez (2.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K) Matt Ramsey (1.0 IP, BB, K) provided the relief. Hitting Summary: Jacob Nottingham (1-2, 2 R, 2 BB, SB) Gabriel Noriega (1-1, 2 RBI, GW HIT) Johnny Davis (2-5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB) Biloxi Shuckers Game Log Gabriel Noriega 2-run single puts the Shuckers on top and proves to be game winner. 5. The report makes it seem like the Brewers have to make the full investment and Gilbert would be paying them $3.5mil a year. I couldn't find where it specified what exactly that $3.5mils intention was. I am guessing it is for maintenence costs, repayment of part of construction costs, and for future improvements/repairs. Not sure how good/bad that is without doing more number crunching than I care to do.
  6. Last I checked our schedule is just as easy! So woooo optimism!!
  7. I wish it was more like 50 innings in general, but if you have less than 50 if 25 are in relief you are graduated. Not sure how complicated one really wants to get when a lot of people making lists aren't that divulged into everything as it is. Would need a giant disclaimer at the top of who isn't eligible.
  8. On an unrelated note to the location I looked up the Cubs stadium deal to see how this proposal stacked up and it is actually pretty legitimate. The Cubs deal was $99mil and they were to pay $15mil. The Brewers proposal is $90mil and they are to pay $20mil. There are a lot of other moving parts of course, but the main framework is an aggressive starting point to get something done in my opinion.
  9. Correct, would be the direct neighbor from the directions given in the article. Also really close to the freeway ramp. Honestly I don't think you could get a more convenient spot. I think it is a way better location to draw people to the park vs. now. I don't know about that. The only major knock to the current location is the neighborhood is extreme poverty and high crime. It's easy to get to, but the Brewers have to play all day games for attendance purposes. With Gilbert, you're basically making it a pain to get to. Dealing with the 60 every day at rush hour is like dealing with the Marquette or Zoo Interchanges during the worst phases of their rebuilds. It's a highway with a large amount of accidents, fatalities, and just general gridlock. I don't anticipate people from the north, central, or western Valley going to games. The best locations I've heard about are the old ones mentioned--near the northeast corner of the 101 and north of the 101 just off the 17. Of course, selfishly, I live in the northern part of the valley. I just hate driving to Gilbert. If we're going to look at Gilbert, why not look into Tucson since they've gone from 3 to 0 teams? Why not look to Wild Horse Pass? Hopefully the Brewers are considering all options. Regarding Tucson: There is a reason they went from 3 to 0. It was too far away and once one left they all wanted out. Closest drive would be two hours at best. Regarding northern areas: Those also were good options, but the past one still with Phoenix died. I don't think Phoenix is going to help build a stadium. Last I checked they have a big problem called Chase Field. Just doesn't look like there is interest. Back to Gilbert: Well they don't really need people from the north or western valley to go to games. I wouldn't expect anyone to drive past five different stadiums to get to ours. You are going to attract people who want to see the two specific teams playing and then locals. I'm going to guess you don't drive to Goodyear, right? Going to Gilbert gives them an immediate attendance upgrade in my opinion(as other places would). It puts them in a more affluent neighborhood that can probably afford/want to go to games. It also gives them a pretty generous territory where they would be the easiest drive(Gilbert/Chandler/QC/San Tan). The Brewers fans will still come and I think you attract a lot more locals. I'd also wonder if there are more Brewer fans on the SE side of the valley. Most I know who have relocated there are in those SE burbs...though who knows. I'm not saying there aren't other great locations, but for a franchise that draws the short end of the stick all the time this would be a pretty good get if it happens.
  10. I like the idea if it involves not a lot prospect wise and we pick up a lot of the contract. However he has been pitching really well of late. Either you pay up or they will just hold onto him. I'm probably in the camp that would risk a little more to bring him in, but that's because his recent stretch of games has been really really good. The success of our rotation in recent weeks makes me doubt this kind of move though. I am also concerned how long term Verlander truly is. How confident can one honestly be the next two years he will be really good? Also he cleared waivers for what it is worth.
  11. Yup, back down to a half game. Could see stability for CF or 2B coming soon. We also get great internal addition of Anderson and Vogt too!
  12. No need to be cautiously optimistic about us contending. This thing is going down to the final week. There are only about 50 games left in the season. No teams is going to pull away with this division and win it by 7+ games. That Cubs hot streak was just deflated with a three game losing streak. May the best win. I think we are in store for a closer finish than some think. Huge bonus is the fact it is a 3 team race for two wild card spots and the division is a 2 team race. We just need a team to falter down the stretch and take advantage of a wild card. That or bully the Cubs for the division.
  13. No - he's on a throwing program and at last report was said to be ready to get in the field by the middle of August. I assume he'll get extensive work in the field in fall instructionals as well, if not the Arizona Fall League. Huh? He is just hitting? DH at A levels? Correct, until AA.
  14. Correct, would be the direct neighbor from the directions given in the article. Also really close to the freeway ramp. Honestly I don't think you could get a more convenient spot. I think it is a way better location to draw people to the park vs. now.
  15. I take my comment back. I was thinking we had more starters than we do. When Anderson comes back we are really are replacing Woodruff. If that's the case and Suter continues to be dominant I probably go with him until he proves otherwise. Though things could get tough if Woodruff puts together some nice starts. 1.Nelson 2.Anderson 3.Davies 4.Garza 5.Suter/Woodruff That Garza injury, Guerra finally getting sent down, and Woodruff/Blazek spot starts has got me really confused these days.
  16. .5 game back these days....just saying... Rotation is rolling and I think we are starting to get some bullpen stability. This pitching is giving us a chance to win every day we go out. Keep doing that and the offense will turn it around to give us a lot of wins.
  17. You know Matt Garza has pretty similar starts a lot of times(bunch of jams he gets out of), but he sure doesn't get this much praise. On a note that won't get people all riled up it was nice to see him battle through the tough situations he got into on non hard hit balls. Love when pitching prospects have promising first starts.
  18. Orlando could make a highlight video of just his relay throws. Going to be really sad if we can't pull this heck of a game out for a win.
  19. Exactly. No offense to Suter, but the rest of the staff has been pitching really really well. Anderson is about to be back which means bye to Suter. He gets the short end of the stick and he doesn't really get a choice. Suter should definitely go to the bullpen though. Has been great the first time through the order. Second and third time? Worse and then terrible. His stats scream bullpen. Let's not get blinded by a small sample and do the smart thing.
  20. Doubtful Brent Suter ever gets a real long term chance to start here. It would take a major injury and he would need to get the nod. I mean what are we going to do? Send Woodruff and Burnes to the bullpen? Guy has everything working against him. He would have a better chance to start on a terrible team with little high shelf pitching in the minors. I just don't see a fit on our team/roster. He deserves a chance to prove himself, but I doubt he gets it in his time here.
  21. The dog thing is stupid, but I feel like Rock LOVES bringing it up first. Is this dog new? I don't remember ever being mentioned before this year. Was this just something he was talking about when bark at the park was coming up
  22. This is an interesting thing to look at. With an utter lack of inning this year it should be interesting to see how they approach him as a starter. If we plan to compete we will have to get creative.
  23. Ok, he's had some success but let's not get carried away. "One of our best starters"...that's simply not accurate. By every metric, he's been worse than Nelson, Anderson, and Suter. He has better numbers than Davies YTD, but he also doesn't go nearly as deep into games and Davies had a rough stretch early on that he's slowly coming down from. He has been better than Guerra and Peralta, but that's saying very little. You can't compare him to Woodruff who hasn't thrown an MLB pitch yet. At best, he's our 4th best starter currently...but I think most would prefer Davies to Garza right now and going forward. Not getting carried away. He has been our third best starter. Doesn't really matter who he is in front of. Many wanted him dumped or in the bullpen in favor of at least 5 guys.
  24. Doubt it. Hasn't been that impressive in Colorado. Probably back to AAA for the start of the season. If 2B is still a disaster maybe he gets a shot mid season.
  25. Yah, they are in a great geographical location now. Too bad Maryville is terrible and the stadium is a dumpster.
