  1. Just don't think the Nationals match up very well. Smith should still net a good prospect. Giolito, Turner, Robles are off the table and I think the Brewers can do better than Fedde as a headliner.
  2. Doubt the Nationals are looking to trade Robles unless it is for a controllable game changer. Not really sure where Smith's value stands, but Robles is probably a stretch. Smith is good, but not elite in my opinion.
  3. Incorrect. They were hedging against one of their top picks not signing for some reason. Corey Ray suffers a career-ending injury next week? Here's your payday, Jared Horn. The smattering of successful players drafted 20+ does not make hedging a bad strategy. It's very smart business. And like I said, they had 20 other 20+ round picks this year to get the next Trevor Rosenthal, or whomever. What they are hedging against is if Corey Ray were to have a major issue. So major he would be willing to take a deal underslot of at least $3mil to give Horn what he wants(is that what someone mentioned he wanted?). I guess a Dylan Covey type scenario could put that into play. A career ending injury would be bad because Corey Ray wouldn't sign at all. Which last time I checked meant we would lose the bonus pool money allocated to that draft slot. Which would then make signing Horn impossible. Mpst teams do it at some point in the draft, though using the 20th round pick seems a bit higher than I'd expect a team to draft a guy asking for that much money. At the end of the day hopefully that scenario making such a signing possible won't happen seeing it would mean bad news for Corey Ray.
  4. Good thing the Brewers had 20 other picks in the 20+ category this year. And your point? Like I said the chances of a 20th round pick making an impact is little, but the Brewers assured themselves it wouldn't just by picking him. I will take any small chance I can to get talent. Do I care they wasted that slim chance? Not really, but it doesn't change the fact they indeed did waste a pick. Probably the equivalent of that time you were too lazy to pick up a penny off the floor and instead vacuumed it up. Could have been a valuable error coin worth a lot more than a penny...one will never know though.
  5. I mean, not really. What are you taking in the 20th round, some senior college player that's just roster filler when you have 20 more rounds for that or an upside pick that probably won't sign but you draft him and offer him say $750,000 and dare him to turn it down. Worst case is he says no, best case is you got a top two round talent in the 20th round. It was wasted. He won't sign and I am sure the Brewers are aware of that. You can keep dreaming on that sliver of hope he signs, but when was the last time a player did that? There have been many players to have success at the MLB level despite being drafted 20+. Below are just some of the names I uncovered: 2000: Jose Bautista, 3B, Pirates, 599th pick (20th round) 2005: Sergio Romo, P, Giants, 852nd pick (28th round) 2008: Tanner Roark, P, Rangers, 753rd pick (25th round). 2009: After St. Louis snagged Carpenter, it also stole current closer Trevor Rosenthal (21st round) and first baseman Matt Adams (23rd) in what has to be one of the best late-Draft runs in recent memory.
  6. Just saw something on Trent Clark ditching that golf swing grip. Didn't know of that change.
  7. Good job Braun. Glad the constructive criticism worked.
  8. Clearly well thought out and original.
  9. It was indeed a wasted pick. Does it matter? Likely not
  10. I knew Peralta would hit a homer someday. Horrible contact rate, but a sweet swing for a pitcher. I can now sleep better.
  11. Stearns traded for Villar and had to give up little. He looks like a genius and he isn't going to give up his top prize unless he is blown away and someone wants to value him like he is actually a perennial all star. That won't happen of course and Villar won't go anywhere. Not that I mind.
  12. If I remember right I think we opted for one midseason list update after the trading deadline. But maybe I was wrong.
  13. The problem isn't that there aren't suitors, but that there aren't any great fits. Outside of maybe The Dodgers I don't see a team that is just dying for a guy like Lucroy. Red Sox have Valaquez and the pitchers love him. They also are more desperate for pitching. Rangers have gotten good production from the current options. Also a team more in need of pitching. Mets make some sense, but they don't really have the greatest prospects. Sure they could add Matz, but that sounds like a pipe dream for us. Indians make some sense if they stay in the race. I have a hard time seeing them make a big splash, but it is possible. They have decent prospects and maybe we could take Yan Gomes back to get that little roadblock out of the way. White Sox are a really good fit. Too bad their farm system isn't too great. I guess if the Brewers really loved Rodon or Fulmer and the White Sox added Anderson maybe something could work. However I'd think two of Fulmer/Rodon/Anderson would have to be in a deal and I just can't see the White Sox doing that. It's not crazy to think that the offers could be low enough where they keep Lucroy till the offseason where more teams will be looking for an upgrade. I don't envision it getting to that point, but it is a lot more likely than I once thought.
  14. How about Jason Groome? I could be off base but I don't think you can trade a draft pick for a full year. At least, I'm pretty sure there's some kind of time frame where they can't be traded. EDIT: They changed the rule last year. Prospects can be traded the day after the world series in the year in which they were drafted. So Brewers could trade for Groome but not until the off season. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mlb-fixes-the-trea-turner-problem-for-everyone-else/ They can list him as a PTBNL though.
  15. All the college guys should be going to Wisconsin next year. Sending them to extended spring training and then rookie ball won't do them much good. They are 21-22 years old which is the average age for an A-ball player. I wouldn't be surprised to see Corey Ray and Daniel Brown get to High-A fast. Ray for obvious reasons and Brown due to the fact he is strictly a reliever allowing him to develop faster. The other pitchers likely are Wisconsin bound next year since they at least have a chance to be starters. Gatewood and Harrison were high school players so they are a bit different. A-ball is about the competition level these college guys were already seeing.
  16. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/06/looking-for-a-match-in-a-jonathan-lucroy-trade.html?fv-home=true I think there is decent reason for concern on Lucroy. They aren't that many suitors and none of them seem really desperate. Some of the teams that were shaping to be suitors have gotten good production from not so flashy players. While Lucroy is a better player in the long run teams might not be very motivated midseason to make that type of move. The other problem is the fact a team like the Astros have been a disaster and won't be looking to buy(most likely). Regardless I still think some team coughs up the prospects to get a deal done. How much is anyone's guess.
  17. I'd think so. If we were allowed to update everyone's ranking respectively he is probably #3 or #4. #1 Arcia #2 Hader #3 Phillips #4 Ray #5 Clark
  18. I'm not surprised they think that. I don't think they would have taken him #5 if they didn't
  19. Alright then (insert pitcher) is starting the next three days. 3 start suspension over.
  20. Really don't see the Nationals as a landing spot. We aren't getting Giolito, Turner, or Robles in a trade. They are all just way too good of prospects to be giving up. Unless they are getting a Fernandez etc. in a trade those guys aren't going anywhere. After that they just don't have good enough pieces to entice the Brewers.
  21. Whelp...sad my dreams of Kyle Cody to the Brewers have dried up. Guess I will just have to make him a PTBNL in my Lucroy trade proposals with Texas.
  22. Outside of Burnes yes they are questionable. Daniel Brown is 100% a reliever. But bullpens win games so if we are nabbing guys who seem like high leverage relievers I will be alright.
  23. Like the pick and hopefully he signs. Seems like he has the potential to be a solid catcher. Nothing like adding true catchers to the farm.
