  1. It is usually a big deal for guys at the end of their careers signing one years deals. You don't want to end up moving every single year. Now when you are signing some big 4+ year deal...probably not the biggest of concerns. In all honesty you probably have two houses anyway.
  2. Food for thought Anthony Rizzo had 650 or so at-bats in AAA and was slashing .340/.405./1.100. I would expect a person with that kind of production to turn it around. Mike Olt has much more pedestrian numbers in his time at AAA and has always been a huge bust risk. Honestly all I need to do is watch Mike Olt and know he would need an absolute miracle turn around to be anything...he is that bad and lost at the plate.
  3. Except to free up a 40 man spot for a September callup. That is true...but I think the Brewers are good in that department. They still had quite a few open spots last I checked.
  4. Contending and making the playoffs is only a part of it. But if we look back and we still don't think we will compete where are we recouping that value? If we spend $30mil+ extra for the same result in the end there is no way you trade half a year of Greinke to recoup $30mil+ in value plus what we had to pass up on in 2012(which ended up not being much). Then 29 teams every should not have signed anyone because they didn't win it all. And by having Greinke yes it does drastically increase the chances to make the playoffs and to actually win once you're there. I'm sure they tossed out some fair extensions at him and he told them he's going to FA and he got 50 mil more than we offered, we had no shot, had to trade. You don't understand what I am saying. If we are looking in hindsight and still don't think we can win with him the only way going back in time to extend him is a good idea is if we somehow can recoup all the money spent. Seeing we would try to compete every year that means he wouldn't be traded until mid-2015 when we are totally out of it. Trying to trade half a year of a player for $30+ in value would be difficult/doubtful. All I am saying is NO we should not have kept Greinke because I don't see us making the playoffs with him and I don't see us recouping value on all the money spent and prospects passed up on.

  6. Can't forget that too...we would have just ended up as a bidder to run up the price. Much like what happened with Jose Abreu.
  7. If anything we should go back and trade him for a different package. If we kept him that would be what...$30mil+ extra(since I'm not buying your inclusion of Lohse/Garza as one)? What does that get us, maybe a slightly better package in a mid 2015 trade? It better be the #1 prospect in the game for $30mil. Not to mention what if Greinke never ended up pitching this well for us if he stayed? He could have produced just as much as Lohse for $10mil more...not good. Heck even more important he may not have opted out at the end of 2015 for us and we would be paying an aging player way more than he is worth. No way I would go back and extend him.
  8. Seeing we aren't competing and the fact the season is almost over I think avoiding the 60DL is pretty much a 99.9% chance of happening. There is no baseball reason to stick someone on the 60DL at this point.
  9. It would be nice to see that kind of creative thinking from our front office. No kidding. I was really impressed by Atlanta when they used that to bring Touki Toussaint into the organization. My thought then echoes yours, that Melvin would never do that. Doug Melvin wouldn't be the main decision maker in such an idea. That really would depend on the owners willingness to drop millions on a prospect.
  10. Newsflash human beings have emotions! Oh yah sure...but in all my time playing baseball I very rarely saw any kid start slamming equipment on the field...and at that age never. Sure in the dugout, but that is a lot different...and if the coach caught you doing that you made good friends with the bench really quick. I can't even imagine what would happen if I slammed something on the field. These kids bahavior is horrible and the coaches do nothing about it. Actually they typically comfort the kids afterwards.
  11. Segura might end up with a little less because the Brewers would hold a lot of leverage in my opinion. I wouldn't want an arby hearing if I played the way he has the last two years. All Segura has to his name is a couple months three years ago...probably would not look good. $2.4mil? Peralta likely to be in that $3.5mil range. Could go half a million either way depending on the finish. Will Smith should be in the $1.7mil range.
  12. If Jean Segura demands a trade for lost playing time he is an idiot and should be sent to AAA. He has been total garbage outside of the start of 2013. Take that away and he has something like a 70 OPS+. Jean Segura is a utility player...that is if you want a a guy coming off the bench who plays average D, swings at everything, has no OBP skills, and is lucky to get 1 XBH hit in a month. Elian Herrera has a higher WAR than Segura...honestly Segura is a borderline MLB utility player.
  13. This guy is AAA filler at best or maybe a a desperation move while someone is injured(IMO). I don't see any upside here and he can't play SS which doesn't help his cause.
  14. The Giants got angry because a non contending team was having fun against them...I guess they expect non contenders to just bend over for them.
  15. It actually wasn't too bad. First inning or so was steamy, but it cooled off. Nice to see another bomb from Santana...that was a frozen rope. Reminds me a lot of Weeks with his line drive power.
  16. That rivals me. The Brewers are 5 and 22 the last 4 years in games I have attended. Oh my...my first 10 games I attended before this year they went undefeated with walkoffs, grand slams, etc....so this is new territory for me.
  17. Jack Z is so overrated. He wasn't a good scouting director and he wasn't a good GM. I would rather have Doug Melvin as GM. At least he could get a team to the playoffs...Jack Z didn't do squat in 8 years and the only thing to his name is good drafts for the Brewers who were picking early every year.
  18. I can't imagine Span getting anything less than 3 years to be honest...and I don't see that making sense for the Brewers. As one person said Austin Jackson would make more sense if he is looking for a 1 year deal.
  19. You seem very confident the Brewers can dominate the Reds...I am not so sure we will do so.
  20. They must have some interest bringing up some guys currently in AA or they wouldn't mention that they will wait till after the playoffs to add any player from AA. Not saying they will...but there must be some discussion.
  21. I apologize in advance for the lack of offense and the loss today. The Brewers are a sweet 1-6 in games I attend and outside of the one win I think they have scored about 5 runs.
  22. It is my understanding these LLWS team are area all star teams. So that's one of the main ways they get so much talent on one team.
  23. It is more of a nationality thing...not race. It really depends how you say it.
  24. Why Segura is even starting at this point is a mystery. He needs to boot real bad...
