  1. I suppose no one should be shocked the team that just paid a catcher big bucks till he was 39 was the one to go pay Contreras.
  2. For what it is worth....the GIF was mostly a joke.
  3. I mean the team is pondering extending Wily Adames and I am sure they would sign one of Burnes/Woodruff if they could. If they can do that, they could certainly sign Contreras. They gave a giant contract to Yelich...Braun got over $100mil once. Historically, we just give bad contracts to our own players, versus free agency. It isn't that they can't, they just choose not to. Whether that is the right move or not is debatable. Just like it was when we signed Cain or tied up 1/5 of the payroll for Yelich. There were certainly scenarios where Contreras could have been affordable and thus a realistic target. That isn't the case with all players in FA. Some guys wouldn't be affordable even if the world fell apart and their worst case FA scenario happened.
  4. Sure he was and I am sure the Brewers were in contact with his agent. Now whether or not his end contract was realistic to the Brewers is a different story. Obviously, it wasn't in the Brewers eyes.
  5. Watching every realistic Brewers target slowly get scooped up by other teams as we do nothing notable.
  6. The Badgers style of basketball and ability to play defense is going to keep them in a ton of games and lead to a lot of wins. They have yet to really play a road game though. So it will be interesting to see how the Badgers do in more hostile environments. Which they will see once this month before a bunch of cupcake games. Always thought it was dumb the Big Ten tosses in a few early conference games just to go back to crap games.
  7. Him opting out would have been great. Barring a bit of a miracle 2024-2025 probably won't be pretty anyway. If he went out there and mashed so well he opted it, that would have been exactly what we needed. But that is hypothetical, and he may not hit much better than Tellez and could be dead weight for multiple years at a high cost if he is worse.
  8. The Brewers signing a FA for $35mil to trade the cheaper option they already had on the roster.? I haven't seen pigs flying recently.
  9. 1-6 are lottery picks. Those are the ones being drawn for. The Tigers/Rangers/Nationals will all be picking #10 or worse next year, regardless of record. As I imagine all of them are considered large markets. If they are #10 or worse to begin with it won't matter, outside of not being eligible to try and hop into the Top 6. Hypothetically, if all those teams ended up in the same draft slots next year, I believe they would get slotted at #10-#12...then whoever was actually #10-#12 would get shifted forward. Then lottery odds would be set for the eligible teams. Those three ineligible teams could then pick even worse if a team behind them wins a lottery spot.
  10. Transfers are getting pretty cringe. It is filled with a bunch of dudes who have already decommitted before ever getting to college, then transferring again before ever playing in a game, and are now off to another school. A bunch of guys running for the hills because they got a new coach and probably didn’t even look up anything about the new coach before doing so. Most are honestly scrubs that should focus on their education, instead of university hopping every year. I honestly wonder how some of these guys do once they get into the real world. “After learning of my district managers retirement, I am announcing that I have entered the job market portal.”
  11. Meh, if he produces it will outweigh and douchbaggery. If he sucks then they just cut him. It was his most games ever and his worst season ever. I wouldn't be shocked if he was kind of a douche all season, especially considering he finally started getting paid the big bucks. I would imagine there is a short leash on him if he sucks and is annoying.
  12. Must have picked a total stud when we did! On a serious note, yah, our organization is ran really well top to bottom at this point. The odds we end up in the Top 6 any time soon and actually get screwed over is really unlikely.
  13. I kinda like the idea of having a shot at an elite pick and it doesn't require intentionally being totally garbage or being the worst ran team in baseball.
  14. Yes, lets take a poor financial decision for 8 years and make it one that lasts the rest of our lives. Awesome.
  15. You are correct. The first article didn't explain it well. You can be in the lottery as many years as you want...you cannot win a spot 1-6 at will though...that is where the limitations take effect. I still can't find anywhere that shows the teams that receive revenue sharing (small markets) and ones that don't (large markets).
  16. Well, it only hurts you if you decide to be one of the Top 9 worst teams in baseball. If you are 10-18 you will basically just pick where you should...minus a team jumping in front of you. You just lose the ability to benefit via the lottery. The only concern is the poor timing it could be for some teams. Usually, you don't go from playoff team to a mega dumpster fire overnight. Often times it will take a few years to hit rock bottom. Not crazy to think the Brewers rock bottom could be the 2024 season, where they could potentially be capped at #10 overall. It could very well test the theory of what they are trying to accomplish with all of this though. The Brewers would lose motivation to tank for a pick and would instead looking to pick up some 1-2 year FAs to field a decent team that year. Stops them from tanking the payroll too. Of course, a cheap arse owner is likely to just not care and accept picking much lower than their record reflects to save tens of millions. The rest of the rounds are based off of record and the next year you would be lottery eligible again.
  17. Surprised no one has really talked about this, but the first ever draft lottery is occurring tonight. The first 6 picks will be a part of the lottery, the Brewers will have a measly 0.2% chance at the top pick of the draft. Few notes: 1) The Brewers have nothing to lose tonight. They are the last team in the lottery draft, so no team has worse odds and the ability to jump in front of them, In the (likely) case they don't win one of the Top 6 picks, they will draft #18. 2) For the future...large markets cannot be in the lottery consecutive years and small markets can't do it three consecutive years. In the event a team is not eligible for the lottery they can't pick higher than #10. So if that ineligible team was one of the 1-9 worst records they would get bumped to #10 or worse. 3) The Brewers would be ineligible for the 2025 draft lottery unless they make the postseason to reset the clock. So if we fire sale after this year and end up the worst team in baseball for 2024...we would be picking #10 the draft 2025 draft. 4) Some years could be very interesting if enough large markets end up missing the postseason consecutive years...especially if that second year they are occupying any of the 1-6 spots. 18. You first paragraph says otherwise. Either that or you were trying to fluff up your word count for your English paper.
  19. Just because he has a stronger arm doesn’t mean he would be good at 3B….or the fact he is a good SS. That extra few feet is a nightmare for some…especially if you aren’t used to it. If think it is a lot of jostling guys around for very little potential gain, that actually is probably making the defense worse…not better.
  20. If Turang can’t figure out how to play 2B comfortably after 400 innings in the minors and being a plus SS…the dude will never figure out how to hit MLB pitching and there is no need to worry.
  21. We have given Braun over $100mil and Yelich over $200mil. Even Cain was approaching $100mil. They can spend big bucks here and there, just not often. Are they going to compete for $300mil contracts and $40mil+ yearly average? Well no...but they can definitely chase after All Star level players in FA occasionally. For the most part, I think the Brewers have been wise enough to know it isn't the greatest idea.
  22. Exact kind of guy to not sign at 30 years old. A good reason I don't want Adames long term. Just not a wise type of player to sign.
  23. They need to do what they did in college basketball and make scheduling tough games a reward come seeding time. That motivates the fringe teams to schedule tough games and even the elite teams would have some motivation to get the bye week. Right now it is a joke. There is no motivation to schedule good games. Teams just pay mid major universities to come get whipped. Fans don't want to watch that. I would have to think it would be better financially if they can incentivize these universities to risk a loss and not have it end their season completely.
  24. Competively maybe....but financially they both could totally flop and it would mean very little. No long term money tied up. Not even semi-long term.
  25. Well part of that is the fact they keep picking up veteran QBs to make sure they aren't some 4 win team, but at the same time have zero shot at actually winning playoff games. They are just shooting themselves in the foot by ruining their draft position and not finding an actual QB for the future. They are trying to ignore the inevitable and they are just wasting years and years of time. If they lose Rodgers, the Packers at least have Love and are putting their eggs into a hopeful young QB.
