  1. MVP: Co MVPs Adames and Urias CY: Woodruff ROY: Frelick BA Leader: Yelich HR Leader: Rowdy ERA Leader: Woodruff K Leader: Burnes WAR Leader: Woodruff Breakouts: Frelick, Varland, Uribe, Weimer Disappointments: Houser, Contreras, Bush, Anderson Bold predictions: Woodruff in top 5 for NL CY, receives MVP votes as well. Bullpen scuffles early, becomes a force in 2nd half. Record: 89-73 Playoffs: Yes, win the central, get hot, make it to WS with a little help from our enemies. Champions.
  2. I wanted to go with Greinke, but just can't do that over Freddy. I can see why he wouldn't have gotten through the first round, if I'd voted that round I'd likely have taken Capuano. No upsets for me in either bracket this round.
  3. I read the McCalvy article, I didn't get angry at it though. I think Keston and Counsell both acknowledged Hiura's struggles. It went on to discuss what he's working on with a swing revamp, adding a timing mechanism (toe tap) that hasn't worked for him yet. And it very well may not work for him at all. At this point, I'm fine with it if the Brewers decide it's time to move on from him, but I'm not mad at the guy about it. I don't get the impression that he's not trying.
  4. Not to mention, one of the more hilarious postgame interview moments when, I believe Marcum, got both Nori and his interpreter with shaving cream after he hit a walk off.
  5. Agree I hope Varland at least gets a shot. I'd be lying if I said part of that feeling is just that I don't want to give him back to LAD. Agree with Tim that "arm fatigue" could be something that just happens to pop up in the bullpen from time to time here.
  6. Alaska counts and all, but I definitely can understand considering it a different animal altogether. I mean, it's got 2.5X the area of Texas, and more coastline than the rest of the country combined. Agree with you on western MT, it's spectacular. And if you cross the border from there, it keeps getting better up in the Canadian Rockies.
  7. For my bracket, I only have one upset in this regional round 1. Thorny over K-Rod. So, Prince, Arcia, Thames, Aguilar, Aramis, Hart, Thorny, Hader
  8. I don't want to make a bunch of extra work for you, but if you're really up for counting votes off the comments here I can participate that way throughout the tourney. I realize the ship has sailed on the Yount region.
  9. Yeah, kinda. Although he detailed it by saying when he came out of the retreat and he had messages indicating something to the effect that GB wants to move on/trade, he realized the ship had sailed on playing for GB. What I got out of it, anyways. I was working while listening to it...
  10. This could just as easily go in the random pointless thoughts thread but here goes. I watched just a few minutes of that new George Lopez show last night. In the episode his daughter’s boyfriend was joining his fantasy baseball league despite not knowing baseball. During the draft the kid blurted out something that sounded like churro. Lopez goes Oh Jackson Chourio from the Brewers? Nice pick I was hoping to get him myself. Couldn’t help getting a kick out of that one. Perhaps one of their writers is on brewer fanatic? 🙂
  11. Another that could be added to the HM list is our #1 overall pick BJ Surhoff. Was mostly a primary catcher and then a primary 3B, but also played a good bit of outfield in a couple seasons. He actually logged innings at every position for Milwaukee except for P.
  12. Also unfortunate (for me anyways) is that Cologuard is not yet an option for me due to the lengthy shipping time for the samples from rural Alaska to reach the lab. So, the prep and scope is going to need to happen sometime in my not too distant future. Unless I can convince my provider and insurer to allow me to do this when I visit Wisconsin this summer...
  13. Thanks for this breakdown. One minor quibble thing I'll chime in is that those HR in wins that turn it into a lopsided win, there's value in that above "no impact" because it allows rest for the higher leverage bullpen arms that might have otherwise needed to be used in a closer game.
  14. I agree with this. To answer your question...not really. And also disappointing is that Fielding seems to no longer even be a pervert! I'm going to give it a few more chances if I happen to be idle and it's on. In addition to Richard Moll, I'd love to see an appearance from Marsha Warfield "Roz" or heck even Buddy, if John Astin would be up for it. He's in his 90s now...
  15. But if you just take their drug, you too can jump from a dock into some pristine water. Or even better, swing from a rope by the shore and cannonball into the lagoon. Frolick on the beach with your beautiful family. Watch whales. I love how they all show the same type of footage while quietly and quickly murmuring all the horrifying potential side effects.
  16. I can't help but wonder if Luis Urias will belong on this list by the end of his Brewers tenure if he ends up moving over to 2b, which appears likely. I envision him doing really well there for us.
  17. I watched the first two episodes of the new Night Court last night, I suppose out of nostalgia for the original. I got some chuckles out of it, I hope it does ok. Reminds me of a more innocent time I suppose. I was hoping Richard Moll would reprise his role as Bull Shannon but so far, no.
  18. Joe Oliver had a nice season for us in '95, but as far as short-tenure Brewers to throw on the end of a list, I'd have Grandal, Kendall, and of course Damian Miller way ahead of him. Hell, I'd have Henry Blanco ahead of him.
  19. Must be nice. Here in Bethel we are locked into the price from whenever our last fuel barge of the year comes, usually end of September. So, it's $6.73 until June.
  20. I was there for his MLB debut with my Dad and my best friend who passed this spring. We scored good seats about 12 rows back, a couple feet up the first base line, and my friend and I were pumped for the Gallardo's debut. We paid enough attention to prospects to know Gallardo might be special. Dad was willing to take our word for it. We were probably the first on our feet applauding the successful debut when he got taken out. Throughout his Milwaukee career Yo was always a little frustrating. As Reilly mentioned, he threw a lot of pitches in those innings. It seemed like so often he'd get 2 strikes on a hitter and then the AB would just go on and on. I think that was largely what led him to such a shortened career. It also was frustrating that he stunk against the cardinals. Nonetheless I was always a big Gallardo fan. He had some great games, and some really cool moments for the Brewers. From time to time I still crack up thinking about the shaving cream pie he got after the walk off double Reilly mentioned. He was so relentless on teammates with the sunflower seeds, he had it coming and he knew. One other thing about that debut game against SanFran in 07. Someone here might remember this. Bonds hit a double off Yo in that one that was just absolutely inhumanly crushed. It hit low on the wall on the fly and it looked like it got maybe 8-10' off the ground.

  22. Well, have you tried fried morels yet? Because if you have not, all I can tell you is don't rule it out. I used to pretty near involuntarily puke if a mushroom got in my mouth before then. Now I have a mushroom soup recipe that's been passed around and around with rave reviews.
  23. Hopper I was the same way for the first roughly 28 years of my life, so I understand where you're coming from. But then for me it gradually turned from gag reflex to love. Morels were the spark, portabellos fanned the flames, and then there was no turning back.
  24. Over the weekend I created probably my best homemade pizza ever, and happened to be using naan bread for the crust. The thing I did differently is I cut up I believe 6 cloves of garlic and slow and low cooked them in olive oil until tender and sweet. Topped the pizza with the garlic, some minced pickled jalapenos, thick slices of Johnsonville Italian meatballs, and thick sliced mushrooms. Drizzled the top with the garlic oil from the pan. It was ridiculously good.
