  1. Stearns is sticking to his stategy that he got lucky with last season... Bargin bin starting pitchers. Lyles, Pomeranz and Faria are all type of pitchers any other team could have had and no one bothered. "Cycling" through these type of pitchers is not a recipe for sustained success IMO. As his job description as GM, Stearns plugged some holes at the MLB level without damaging our already weak farm system too badly. (just Dubon IMO) Don't think it will get us to the postseason this year, but he at least did a little bit to give us a shot.
  2. I don't get what is so "yucky" about this move? Think it's a good change of scenary/needs trade for both contending clubs.
  3. Also, Cardinals are paying $4 million of Leake's 2020 salary so he'll only cost $11million next season. Still not advocating that Brewers acquire him.
  4. I think you are overvaluing Grisham by quite a bit. I think Stearns would be wise to sell high on Grisham while he has regained a lot of his value. Not sold on him becoming anything more than a replacement level player at the big league level.
  5. Dinelson Lamet would be an interesting pitcher from the Padres to acquire if available. He seems like he'd be a dominant bullpen arm IMO.
  6. Unfortuately, the + would have to be Keston for Thor. Thor being available was a smokescreen anyway. They wanted to gauge which pieces that contending teams would be willing to part with and then try to pivot to selling the team Wheeler instead. I would bet big money that Syndergaard isn't going anywhere this deadline.
  7. I'd be on board with a Greg Holland addition on the cheap.
  8. My guesses... Trevor Bauer, RHP, Cleveland Indians - Not Traded Noah Syndergaard, RHP, New York Mets - Not Traded Madison Bumgarner, LHP, San Francisco Giants - Not Traded Robbie Ray, LHP, Arizona Diamondbacks - Yankees Zack Greinke, RHP, Arizona Diamondbacks - Not Traded Caleb Smith, LHP, Miami Marlins - Not Traded Matthew Boyd, LHP, Detroit Tigers - Not Traded Mike Minor, LHP, Texas Rangers - Twins Zack Wheeler, RHP, New York Mets - Astros Tanner Roark, RHP, Cincinnati Reds - Phillies On a side note guess, Brewers get Dylan Bundy or Mike Leake plus random bullpen arm.
  9. Believe it or not, at 28 years old, Lyles is only 3 years older than Ponce anyway. Just sucks that this seems more like a desperation move than like a "we're going for it" move. lol
  10. It is a sad story. However, it's one that happens to about 90%+ of a teams "top prospects". There are only a limited number of MLB jobs and if you are not the best of the best, learn from your failures, make adjustments, etc., you simply don't make it. Example: Here are the Brewers top 20 prospects from 5 years ago, 2014. 1. OF Tyrone Taylor= Sad Story, AAAA type player. 2. SS Orlando Arcia= Over-hyped, fringe MLBer, Alcides Escobar 2.0 career likely (still hope for more) 3. LHP Kodi Medeiros= Pending Sad Story 4. 3B Jake Gatewood= Sad Story 5. OF Monte Harrison= Pending, likely over-hyped 6. RHP Devin Williams= Sad Story 7. C Clint Coulter= Sad Story 8. RHP Corey Knebel= Successful MLB Reliever 9. RHP Jorge Lopez= Fringe MLB Long Reliever 10. OF Victor Roache= Sad Story 11. RHP Taylor Jungmann= Only made THE SHOW because of where he was drafted, Sad Story 12. RHP Johnny Hellweg= Sad Story 13. OF Kyle Wren= Sad Story 14. OF Michael Reed= Cup of Coffee 15. RHP Taylor Williams= Fringe MLB bullpen arm 16. RHP Tyler Wagner= Sad Story 17. RHP Marcos Diplan= Sad Story 18. RHP David Goforth= Sad Story 19. LHP Jarrett Martin= Don't even remember him, Sad Story 20. SS Yadiel Rivera= Sad Story and so on... And I'm not making fun of your post in anyway, BTW, just pointing out how difficult it is to make MLB, even as a hyped-prospect.
  11. In both of Jordan Lyles last two starts against the Cubs on July 4th and 13th, he gave up SEVEN (7) EARNIES! But like they say, the third time is the charm!
  12. Jordan Lyles 5.39 ERA IS about a half of run better than the Brewers 2019 Opening Day Starter!
  13. Don't think Brewers can afford or would be willing to add Greinke's $32Million per season to the payroll through 2021.
  14. Still think Baltimore's Dylan Bundy could be Jake Arrieta 2.0 with a change of scenery. Controlled through 2021. Hope he's on Stearns radar as a buy low candidate.
  15. No. Please God, no.
  16. Yes..I said that..go ahead and think its dumb all you want..Im just not selling ANY major contributor to the major league club until Yelich's control is up..just my philosophy..im doing whatever I can to capitalize on that window now..Hader is a big part of that..heck im trying to resign Moose and Grandal as well and make a HUGE offer to Geritt Cole or another top FA pitcher. And besides..how much have those players helped the Padres this year? What's their record again? I'll make this very simple for you Tatis = 3.5 WAR Paddock = 2.2 WAR Hader 2.0 WAR I would trade Hader for just those two alone. Tatis very well could be the best SS in the game - Imagine a faster/better fielding Hirua - Thats Tatis Tatis would automatically be our 2nd best player on offense This shows how much of a flawed a "stat" WAR really is. By it's definition, Paddack is 2.2 wins better than a replacement level starting pitcher, but Hader is only 2.0 wins better than a replacement level relief pitcher. To anyone who knows anything about baseball, Hader is one of the Top 20 most valuable players in the game and far and away the most valuable at his position.
  17. Baseball America released their mid-season top 100 prospects and the Brewers are the only team in baseball without a player on it. Our farm system has no real blue chip prospects (assuming Huira is untouchable now) with which to make a major trade. Our farm system could sure use some restocking of sorts.
  18. This team has too many holes, injuries and underachievers to likely play better baseball than the rest of the contending NL teams for the next 9+ weeks. It's a problem. On the brightside, we do have two of the most valuable players in baseball in Yelich and Hader, as well as a hot shot rookie in Keston Huira. I will guess Sterns does a "soft buy" between now and the deadline. Mike Leake and a random White Sox reliever sounds about right. lol
  19. Who will take the ball in place of Chacin for his next start? I don't think Houser is the best candidate and they should leave him in the bullpen. One player on the 40 man roster that could be a candidate is RHP Trey Supak at AA Biloxi. He last pitched on Monday and he has had two near no hitters in the past month at that level. My choice would be to stretch Freddy P back out to insert him in the bullpen but that won't happen quickly. I agree that Smyly sure would have been a nice alternative but hopefully Sterns adds a SP soon. The home/away 6 games against the Cubs the next two weekends will likely make or break the Brewers season.
  20. Moose had a walk off hit at a pivotal playoff game at Miller Park. That makes him better than “quite bad in the playoffs”. Lol
  21. Drew Smyly rhymes with Wade Miley...
  22. The Brewers Pitching ERA as a team this year is about a full run higher than in 2018. Is this the impact of losing pitching coach guru Derek Johnson?
