  1. Here's a link to MLBTRADERUMOS Free Agent write up on Cobb from back in January. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/free-agent-profile-alex-cobb.html Steve Adams in his chat today... "Cobb isn't a lock for anything. He's never made 30 starts in a season, never thrown 180 innings, and had the third-lowest swinging-strike rate of any starter in baseball last season." I think Brewer fans are overrating Cobb just so they can sell themselves on him being a likely Brewers Free Agent signing. Unless the Brewers can get him for 4 years/$48M or less, I think they should set their sites on a better Starting Pitcher. Either Jake Arrietta or making a trade for one.
  2. Only $4.5M more a season for a #1 starter, instead of a #3? Sign me up for Jake Arrieta. (although for the record I think a team will offer him more than that.)
  3. Rumor has it that the Braves are about to add an OF for "depth". Keon Broxton? I could see something like a Keon Broxton for Lucas Sims type swap. Or the Braves have a bevy of young RHP and LHP with higher upside that the Brewers could target to re-stock their farm. Lucas Sims is a 2012 1st round pick who is MLB-ready and I feel a bit of an underrated arm, albeit with some control issues. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=608371#/career/R/pitching/2017/ALL He usually has struggled a bit at each minor league level but then shown vast improvement. Also, has averaged more than a K an innings throughout minor league career to date. Thoughts?
  4. I think we are back to overvaluing Brandon Woodruff. Brewers would be smart to cash him in as a trade chip while his perceived prospect value is still high. This reminds me of when Jorge Lopez's prospect stock at a high point during the 2015-2016 offseason.
  5. Orlando Arcia is going to be a WAY better MLB player than Willy Adames, IMO. (in the field AND with the bat) So even if you took those two players out of the 3 team trade, I STILL think the Brewers would be getting hosed big time on this deal. You'd be basically giving up Santana, Woodruff and Bickford for an over-priced/risky Zack Greinke and some prospect lotto tickets. As much as I'd like Greinke back, that's too much to pay, IMO. Greinke still has 4 years and $126M left on his contact. With this proposal Brewers would be getting him at 4 years/$106M. (ARZ kicking in $20M) Why not keep Santana, Woodruff, Bickford as future trade chips and sign Jake Arrietta for 5 years/$106? (same rate Darvish got but one less year) Greinke might have been better last season but he's 34 and Arrietta is only 31.
  6. And I think Stephen Vogt is a near-lock as one of our two catchers because he hits left-handed and brings veteran experience to the position.
  7. Jamie Garcia is one of the worst/most injured starting pitchers in Baseball IMO. Corbin, please.
  8. I do argree with you guys that having Woodruff MLB-ready should steer the Brewers clear of signing and overpaying a Lynn or a Cobb. However, I do believe that Stearns should not hesitate to include Woodruff in a deal paired with Santana to land a cheap, controllable Top of the Rotation Arm. The Brewers desperately need one if they plan on contending (especially in a division with the Cubs), and outside of signing Arrieta to a long and risky contract, I think that may be the only way Stearns will be able to do it.
  9. Kershaw is the best pitcher of his generation. Braun was a great player in his prime but will not make the Hall of Fame. I don't think comparing the two is fair. And I think fans and posters ARE serious about platooning Braun with Thames at 1B. I think it would make Thames more valuable and keep Braun healthy all the way deep into October
  10. I think even if Braun did NOT have the no-trade clause, the Brewers would still be better off trading Santana because with his age/control/contract he has WAY more trade value than Braun as it stands.
  11. With the emergence of Chris Taylor for the Dodger, a mini-breakout from Andrew Toles, and a rebound of sorts from Puig, I think the Dodgers need to seek OF has also vanished.
  12. All the talk is of trading Domingo Santana to fix our over-crowded OF situation. What could we get for Ryan Braun? I know it was discussed at length here last off-season and the market showed little to no interest in Braun with his contract/injuries/age/roids/lies/etc., however, with one less year left on his contract, does Ryan Braun have now possibly have any trade value?
  13. While I appreciate the time and effort in the above post, these WAR trade valuations don't hold a lot of water in my book. Every single GM in the league would choose Taijuan Walker over Domingo Santana if given the the choice. Young, controllable SP with TOR potential have much more actual value than a corner OF with Santana's offensive/defensive profile.
  14. I agree with superfly that I think fans are vastling OVERVALUING Brandon Woodruff. Perhaps there's a small chance that Woodruff reaches his Jimmy Nelson-type ceiling and can have a season like Nelson did last year but it would likely take years of experience taking lumps at the MLB level (like it took Jimmy) before he is really valuable enough that a contending team would want to hand the ball every 5 days.
  15. Since Dbacks made the postseason last year with Walker in their rotation I think he'd be hard to pry away. I honestly think that it would take about that much for Arizona to even listen on him.
  16. Throwing a name of another controllable (thru 2020) young arm out there although he's likely not available. MLBTRADERUMORS mentioned that the Diamondbacks had shown interest in Domingo Santana earlier this offseason, possibly looking to replace JD Martinez's bat in their lineup. Corbin only has one year of control, Greinke is too expensive/risky, Ray is off-limits and I don't trust Godley. Taijuan Walker seems like he's on the verge of breaking out at only 25 years old. Wonder what it could take to land him? Brewers receive: RHP Taijuan WAlker 2B Brandon Drury Diamondbacks receive: OF Domingo Santana RHP Brandon Woodruff RHP Freddy Peralta MI Mauricio Dubon Former Brewers prospects Woodruff and Anthony Banda could compete for D-backs 5th starter spot. Thoughts?
  17. I don't think Santana and Ponce are enough for Salazar AND Kipnis. Also, the Indians are contenders. Why would they be so motivated to move a SP? Not so sure that they are. I realize they need a spot to open up for Clevinger but Josh Tomlin isn't going to hold anyone back. If Kipnis is dealt, who plays 2B for the Tribe? I guess the Indians could move Chisenhall back to 3B and Jose Ramirez back to 2B to fit Domingo in the corner OF but I heard that Chisenhall is terrible at 3B. Just can't see why Indians would want to weaken their rotation depth and their overall defense just to add a bit of offensive upgrade in Santana.
  18. I know that a lot of Brewer fans would love to land Marcus Stroman from the Blue Jays. Problem is, they also probably wouldn't want to give up what it would cost to get him (even if available). How about targeting a "Buy Low" candidate in Aaron Sanchez? The Brewers are aware the the Blue Jays lost out on the Yelich sweepstakes, so we already know that the Blue Jays are looking for a controllable outfielder. Enter Domingo Santana. I know Aaron Sanchez has been inconsistent and injury prone but I really believe he could be a #2 type-starter. I think he has a better arm than Chase Anderson, for example. Here's a start of a trade proposal to throw out there: Brewers get: RHP Aaron Sanchez 2B Devon Travis Blue Jays get: OF Domingo Santana RHP Brandon Woodruff Pieces could be added or subtracted from either side but I think a Sanchez/Santana headlining trade could work if the Blue Jays are open to it.
  19. He doesn't seem to have a starting role for the DBacks and I think he could be great offensive 2B for the Crew. I recently read that they are on the lookout for an OF that can play CF to back up Pollock. Wonder what the Brewers would have to add to Broxton in an offer for Drury?
  20. I actually think the Mets would PASS if we offered them ANY five players at the MLB level for him, not just prospects.
  21. The Indians are contenders with a full rotation and no spot for Mike Clevinger. The Brewers are hopeful contenders with a full outfield and no spot for Domingo Santana. Done and done. WOAH SOLVDD
  22. Problem is that the Brewers simply don't match up well with the Rays on a trade. Especially if they want to headline the deal with Santana.
  23. Well Eff Yeah!!! Brewers just added their two best players to the team all in one day during the worst hot stove season ever! What makes me the happiest about this signing is that we won't be trading for Jacoby Ellsbury!!! WHat the eff was that all about??? Stupid Yankee fans... Welcome back Lorenzo!!!
  24. I like the idea of trading Santana to the Astros to restock the farm. Astros have a bunch of prospects near MLB ready with no place to put them on the 25 man roster. I'd be interested in some combination of RHP JB Bukauskas 3B JD Davis 1B AJ Reed Maybe some others with awesome two letter first names!!! Lol
  25. Good point about Brewers OF being set at least through 2020. This really means Corey Ray and Trent Clark can only turn into trade chips if they figure it out at the higher levels of the minors. Really wanted the Brewers to draft some high upside pitchers with those first round picks, and now in hindsight, really wish they would have......Despite the Brewers horrific track record of developing SP. For what it's worth I wanted them to take LHP Brady Aiken and AJ Puk at the time. Love the Yelich trade!!! Losing Monte Harrison hurts but I'm glad it was him over Corbin Burnes. Now Stearns can target a high end SP via trade and offer their choice of: Santana/Broxton/Phillips/Ray/Clark/etc And Woodruff/Ortiz/Freddy Peralta/etc Go Brewers!
