  1. OSU has 2 wins over top 14 teams (Indiana & Northwestern).. How many does Texas A&M have? How many does Notre Dame have? The Buckeyes are in... I would place Cincinnati (undefeated conference champ) in over both A&M and ND... its 2020.. let a non-power 5 team in & see what happens..
  2. Barring Woodruff signing a multi-year deal, he will get 4 bites at the arbitration wage increase apple instead of the normal 3.. His salary in 2021 (assuming a season) will be much greater than earlier (non Super 2 determination) projections.. Additionally his later pre-free agent years with MKE (or another club) will be more expensive if he maintains his effectiveness...
  3. As a person born/ raised/ & back living in the CLE area I can tell you many people are not happy with the idea of changing the Indians team name. People complained about the cartoon Chief Wahoo mascot & I can get that. But the team name needing to change is PC bs imho. I've rooted for the team for over 45 years (being on the planet for over 50 years) & I will continue to think of the team as the Tribe. As for the many suggested new names, Spiders is a no go/ hard pass for me. That was a NL club (different franchise) before the AL Indians were founded under a different name over 100 yrs ago. Why would I want to root/ bring back a name that had the historically worst team in the history of all baseball (1899 season, 20w & 134L in a single season) https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CLV/ If a change is made, go with something without any ties or baggage..
  4. Maybe in a few years but MLB is not expanding in 2020 or 2021. Heck, depending on the CBA negotiations after the '21 season, the 2022 season could be in jeopardy. Until the next CBA negotiation is completed, I doubt expansion happens. So while expansion might eventually happen, Nashville has to decide having baseball now (as AAA level) until then. They need the leverage of allowing a team to move right now because there is ongoing stadium negotiations. The A's and Ray's? I think. Expansion won't happen until that's resolved. I don't think the CBA negotiations will have any affect. The only thing in the CBA about future expansion is MLB can expand by 2 teams any time they want, they just need to give the Union 10 days notice once the decision is made. Perhaps in the next negotiation the owners may want to remove the 2 team limit but hard to see the Union saying no to more members getting jobs. Interesting note buried in Phillis’ Dombrowski hiring announcement, per mlbtraderumors.com The Phillies had been one of the clubs to contact Dombrowski early in the offseason, but he wasn’t interested at that time. What changed was that he was given some new information from the commissioner’s office, who recently told Dombrowski and the Nashville group that expansion wasn’t going to happen for a couple of years.
  5. Last I heard, DSL still a go & players there would not be counted toward the new stateside player limit. My guess is more MLB teams will be looking to field multiple DSL & other foreign league teams (there used to be a league in Venezuela years ago until that place went into the crapper) to try to get a competitive advantage..
  6. I think you are being a little premature here. Yes some work needs to be done but there are other factors still in play. The minor league situation is still being determined. While there is an idea of which milb clubs will go with which MLB organization, the overall setup & number of allowed players stateside is still in flux. JJ Cooper was originally reporting that the number was 150 stateside players in the minors. Now he is reporting the number is being closer to 180.. Either way there has traditionally been a ton of players (30 to 40+ depending on organization) in extended spring training & while those names were not part of rosters in the past, they would count toward the number of stateside players. JJ Cooper was reporting over the past week that its likely another month until all the various milb details have been worked out & get announced. Once that happens there will likely be another round of cuts/ releases as clubs get themselves down to the player limits (or lower for signing others). For a number of MLB clubs (especially those that had multiple complex league teams along with short-season/ rookie groups) that upcoming round of cuts could be upwards of 25 to 30 (or more) more players per MLB organization.. It was my understanding the with the various changes, each MLB club would have 4 full season affiliates & 1 stateside complex team moving forward. I realize its an older listing but take a look at the farm setup in 2019.. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/affiliate.cgi?year=2019 Even if we approximated 28 players at each stateside group for MKE & another 24 in extended spring training & on injury lists, MKE had roughly 220 players stateside (in 2019). Yes there has been some attrition since then but (as you noted) there was also a small draft & post draft signings last summer. I suspect the overall number is still close to that rough 220 estimate. Until the final details are worked out/ announced, I can see MKE mainly waiting to see those final items before taking much action...

  8. I dispute your idea that Beloit would be a Brewer affiliate now if not for the ownership in the Carolina franchise.. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers & Beloit club play in the same league. No way would MKE have 2 affiliates in the same minor league/ at the same level. IF Beloit had moved over to MKE, the Appleton franchise would be with someone else & Carolina would still be the Brewers..
  9. Just FYI in case anyone is interested... Prospects Live @ProspectsLive · 14m The Minor League Baseball restructuring news has lots of ramifications and lots to digest. @ProspectJesus & @C_Blessing will try to navigate it all during a live video stream tonight at 9:30 ET. Fan engagement is encouraged! We hope to see you tonight. -------------------------------------------------- Additionally, BA dropped another podcast related to the invites today in case anyone is interested..
  10. Just realize that if a Big 10 team makes the playoffs, there is a large chunk of $$ that goes back to the conference for splitting among the conference schools. If OSU is snubbed by the CFP commitee, WI will lose $$... In a year greatly impacted by COVID (for example limited to no fans in the stands), schools are looking for every dime possible..
  11. Was thinking the same thing (re: Miami Marlins).. I think we also see where Fresno ends up (w/ Colorado) if they accept the move to A ball level...
  12. Thanks for the news update... Hadn't seen it yet.. Any clarification on what league Carolina is part of (as part of Low A)??
  13. Santana has been a DH in the past (spending a majority of 2016 there) & made it clear he disliked it. He put in the work to improve his skills at 1B in order to limit being a DH moving forward.
  14. John Sherman (Royals owner) was a minority owner in CLE for a number of years & he got to see impact of Carlos Santana upclose in 2016,2017 & 2019 along with the lack of Santana in 2018. I suspect that played a role in KC making the signing.
  15. 2 year deal worth $17M https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/royals-to-sign-carlos-santana.html
  16. It should be noted that Sandy Alderson (Mets FO) came out & said that IF the ownership transfer of the Mets had happened sooner, the Mets would have made a waiver claim on Hand..
  17. Or another Big 10 game gets cancelled so the other impacted team & tOSU can play one another....
  18. Word breaking that Meatchicken has cancelled its visit to tOSU.....
  19. Just sharing a tweet from a Reds beat reporter... Mark Sheldon @m_sheldon Krall said multiple times that dealing Iglesias helps "reallocate resources" for using $ on different things -- SS, rotation, bullpen depth, but said no free agent signings are imminent.
  20. But extension of the PDA would take both sides to agree to it. MLB was not interested in extension because they saw a number of fundamental changes that were needed, the sooner the better. MiLB was unlikely to agree to extension as there side had 2 different thought processes on how to proceed (a camp that wanted status quo or very limited changes/ a group that was open to more changes with limited contraction). When you get to that point, kicking the can down the road for another year or 2 does very little.. Better to hammer things out & get a new item in place
  21. Lincoln - I think your forgetting 1 big point: The overall PDA between MLB & the MiLB was set to expire at the end of Sept 2020. Without that base, the various agreements between teams like MKE & the various minor league clubs is akin to being in mud/quicksand. No firm base & the whole thing comes crashing down. The overall negotiations & talk about updating/ modernizing the setup & framework (including elimination of some teams) came out over year ago (months before anyone ever heard of COVID). The COVID impact of this year has kept most of the self-serving politicians at bay & the loss of the season financially has put most of MiLB on shakier footing. Personally I am in favor of the updating of the minor league structure as it was long overdue. That said, many more details should have been worked out & released already.
  22. Schwarber was non-tendered by the Cubs Tribe cuts loose Tyler Naquin, Delino Deshields Jr, & Jefry Rodriguez...
  23. The R5 draft has not happened yet (I believe it is next week)...
  24. According to one of the recent Baseball America podcasts (discussing the minor league restructuring) JJCooper was reporting that MLB teams will be facing a max number of players in their United States development system.... The number had NOT yet been finalized but from that number a team (like MKE) would need to fill its entire AAA/ AA/ High A & Low A roster. I believe it would also include those playing in the complex leagues in Arizona/ Florida. Cooper was reporting that the number would not cover any foreign development leagues like Dominican Summer or other places. Hence why distinguishing the pool as US development system. While everyone (myself included) is interested to find out where the various affiliates are for each team, I am also interested in learning what that organization player number is too...
  25. to add in for the MLB Draft league in the east... Beyond the 2 already noted (Williamsport & State College), there will also be Mahoning Valley, West Virgina & Trenton..
