  1. Of those complaining I'm wondering what would be a better move? Jesus Sanchez, Donovan Hand and Robert Wooten all deserve to be promoted before KRod.
  2. I could sit here and talk about who I'd like to see moved. But we all know Melvin. He won't trade Gallardo. He won't trade Lohse. He won't trade Ramirez. All three of them are needed to "compete" next season. Weeks' value will probably be too low for him to be traded. Hart may be moved but he'll only have a month or so to prove himself. Plus, with his upcoming FA status and the new c.b. rules which won't allow the trading team compensation if he leaves he may not fetch much either. If anything, Melvin will trade a few relievers (Gorzelany, Gonzalez), maybe a Betancourt or a Alex Gonzalez and get nothing significant in return. The only other I scenario I can see playing out is the Brewers being about 5-6 games out of the final wild card spot and Melvin trading guys like Schafer and Khris Davis for a backup infielder and a reliever.
  3. I am super excited about this as well. As much as I liked it I think it needed to end when it did. You can only have so many CTU moles or have Jack go behind CTU's back so many times. Now that it's had some time off hopefully they can come up with some fresh new ideas. The new format will be interesting too.
  4. I think the Brewers need to focus less on velocity and more on getting guys who can throw strikes. Rogers, Jeffress, Arnett, Jungmann. All first round picks and all guys who have/had a very hard time avoiding walks. It doesn't matter if can throw 130mph if you can't throw strikes. They traded for Johnny Hellweg who, again, has a great arm but can't throw strikes. Same with Ariel Pena. Stop piling up as many hard throwers as you can get and start getting guys who can throw strikes. I'll take 92-93 with control over 95-96 with little control any day of the week.
  5. I don't watch every inning of every game but I can honestly say that until I saw it mentioned on JSonline just now I didn't even realize Josh Prince was still on the team. I am absolutely disgusted about the way the Brewers have using Khris Davis and Josh Prince. Prince isn't exactly a top prospect but he has been improving in recent years. Khris Davis is an OBP machine with decent power who has hit everywhere he's played. Both need more at bats yet both are rotting away on the bench. Typical Milwaukee Brewers. What's next? Call up Jimmy Nelson so they can stick him in the bullpen?
  6. We have plenty of guys who can play SS. If we can get anything at all for Gonzalez or Betancourt we should move them. Neither guy will be back next season. I'd shoot for a low level relief prospect with some upside, if possible.
  7. The Brewers would rather give KRod yet another chance than to give someone like Wooten a try.
  8. I heard the name Tarik Black thrown out there. He played for Memphis last season and I think was an MU target when he was being recruited out of HS.
  9. Maybe Blue is eying Europe. If this is the case I assume he'd have waited until he actually got an offer before he announced his plan to leave. I don't know. I don't think players leave college early with their eye towards Europe. I think that's where he'll end up but I don't think it is his number one goal. But like I said, life for MU goes on. As dumb as this may sound I think Chris Otule's return is more important than Blues. Without OTule MU's biggest guy is 6'8''. Buzz finally started playing he and Gardner together towards the end of the year and it seems like he really found something there. They'll be a very deep team next year but PG may be a question mark. Derrick Wilson is nothing more than a backup. I've seen Duane Wilson play a ton in HS. He is an amazingly talented player but he needs to add at least 15lbs of muscle. But overall a starting lineup of Duane Wilson, Todd Mayo, Chris OTule, Jameel McKay, and Jamil Wilson with Gardner, Johnson, Burton, Derrick Wilson, and Taylor coming off the bench should be a pretty decent team.
  10. Vander's decision is a terrible one. But how often do you see this in college basketball? A player has a good run in the tournament and thinks he can play in the NBA. Blue is a terrible shooter and is too small to do anything else. I don't think he'd be a good NBA player even if he stayed another year but he could at least improve his stock a bit. He reminds me of Jerel McNeal. Good college player but just not cut out for the NBA. And McNeal was A LOT better than Blue, in my opinion. Oh well. What are you going to do? Todd Mayo is going to have to step up. And Deonte Burton and Jajuan Johnson are both top 50 recruits who should see some time at the two guard as well. As for Anderson. I couldn't care less. Yes he was a starter but he certainly wasn't the best player at the position, that being Jamil Wilson. Anderson was terrible on defense too. Whenever he got into the game, especially in the tournament, I cringed. Marquette will be more than fine without him. They have Wilson. Steve Taylor looks like he has a ton of potential and was a beast on the offensive glass. And Jameel McKay fits that mold as well.
  11. What does Tyler Thornburg have to do to get some national recognition? I'll bet if he were a Yankee he'd be a top 75 prospect.
  12. I was a little surprised to see Drew Gagnon returning BC after 11 fairly successful starts down there last there. I realize he isn't a top notch prospect these are the type of guys I wish Milwaukee would be more aggressive with. That being said, I am glad the Brewers promoted Coulter all the way up to Wisconsin. I can see him being the top prospect in the organization within 2 years. I hope he continues to rake and I hope he is able to stay behind the plate, though a move to third would be ok with me too.
  13. I think the real question is whether or not Buzz allows Otule to have a 6th year. Buzz would be a fool not to allow Otule back. I actually think MU is be a top 10 team with him. Cadougan was solid and will be missed but he wasn't exactly an offensive threat. I've seen Duane Wilson play numerous times and he is an amazing player. He needs to put about 20lbs on but I'd guess he'll be the starting point guard by the time conference play starts. He is already better than Derrick Wilson, at least offensively. I never saw a game where he wasn't the best player on the court, and that includes the Germantown game. Add him with the additions of Johnson, McKay and Burton along with all the talent they have coming back, most notably Gardner, Jamil Wilson, and Vander Blue, and this may be the deepest and best team MU has had in a long time. They do need to dramatically improve their shooting though.
  14. I'm thinking OTule is gone and I think Buzz is planning on it. By my count they have 5 freshmen (Wilson, Burton, Johnson, McKay, and Dawson) coming in and only 3 scholarships (Lockett, Cadougan, Thomas) opening up so who knows whats going to happen. Maybe Mayo or someone else will end up leaving. The issue I have with Buzz and MU is that he seems to recruit simply the best guys available instead of getting a balanced roster. If Chris OTule leaves next year the biggest guy they'll have is only 6'8'' (Gardner and McKay). Going small from time to time is one thing. Playing small the entire year is something else entirely. Similarly, a roster with 14 guys yet not one who can shoot. As much as I was rooting for them vs Syracuse I had absolutely no faith that they'd win because they have no shooters to attack the zone. I'm hoping the additions of Johnson and Wilson change that a bit but only time will tell. Finally, if Buzz is still coach next year I hope he spends all offseason figuring out how to play against a zone. I swear if MU's opponents all played zone all the time this season they would not have even made the NCAA tournament. I've never seen a team so lost when it comes to playing against a zone.
  15. What is the point of keeping up Davis? We all know Roenecke is going to sit him on the bench and he's not going to get any consistent at bats. Why not just let him play every day in Nashville? Blake Lalli can sit on the bench just as well as Davis can.
  16. I hope we aren't thinking of rebuilding anymore because the Brewers aren't even close to being in position to do so. I don't understand why you would sign Corey Hart. The guy is an expensive, injury plagued player on the downside of his career who is pretty much limited to first base now. He's probably looking for one last multiyear contract so you may be able to sneak a QO by him and get an extra pick. But signing him long term makes no sense to me. The Brewers have already blocked guys like Schafer and Khris Davis. If they block Hunter Morris too (assuming has another good season) I'll question whether Melvin really knows how to run a small market franchise. All the years of success (playoffs) are a direct result of trades to obtain all star caliber pitchers. Unfortunately with one of the worst farm systems in baseball we can't really rely on that anymore, at least not in the next few years. Even with the addition of Lohse I don't see this years team as anything better than maybe 3 or 4 games above .500. What happens this season with guys like Peralta, Hellweg, Jungmann, Fiers, Bradley and Thornburg may determined how much of a rebuild we need to go into. Either way I think Melvin needs to diversify his draft picks a little bit. At some point he's going to have to spend a top 5 draft pick on something other than a pitcher or outfielder.
  17. How can you claim a team is "tanking" when they don't even draft the best player available? Houston had no need to tank in order to draft Correra last season. They probably could have gotten him 5 picks later. Granted they were allocated more money to spend but what they did with that money was very smart in many people's eyes. Baseball isn't like basketball or even football where a few good draft picks will take you from worst to first. And baseball more than any other sport has such a wide margin or error in drafting that it's hard to imagine anyone tanking to move up a spot or two. The reason Miami and Houston are where they are is because, thanks to people like Scott Boras, their payrolls got so out of whack that they had to dump all these expensive players so they can actually have money to invest in the draft. For how much it would cost for two years of Kyle Lohse a team could probably sign all of it's draft picks for two entire drafts.
  18. Ilikewisco a bunch of those teams you mentioned are also leaving the WCHA and joining up with a few CCHA teams to form a new conference. That conference will probably be better than the Big 10. I think some of the teams are Denver, CC, North Dakota, St Cloud, Minnesota Duluth, Western Michigan and Miami (OH). What the Big 10 does have is name recognition. A casual fan who doesn't watch much college hockey would probably be like "St. Cloud St vs Minnesota Duluth? Who are they?" This as opposed to Minnesota vs Wisconsin or Michigan vs Ohio St. Plus the Big 10 Network obviously.
  19. I'm excited about Big 10 hockey and seeing Wisconsin playing Michigan, Michigan St and Ohio St every year. I hope within the next decade or so at least two more schools (Indiana? Illinois?) add hockey. As far as this team goes.....wow. Who'd have thought a month into the season that this team would even be a contender for the NCAA tournament, let alone WCHA tournament champions. If they continue to play good defense like they have been they can beat anyone right now. And hopefully all their eligible guys come back next season, particularly Mersch, Zengerle, and Kerdiles. They could have a really good team if that happens.
  20. The guy the Brewers are going to start the season with at first base has a career OBP under .300 and has never played the position. In the Brewers defense they are just about the only team that would actually start that player at first base. I wouldn't mind taking a look at Garland though. The rotation looks like it may be in trouble.
  21. What a tool. What Boras doesn't seem to want to admit is that it is people like him that make it necessary limit the amount of money teams can spend on draft picks. Without limits it's essentially an auction, with the best players going to teams who are willing to pay for their insane asking prices. The purpose of the draft is to get the best players to the worst teams. And while MLB has easily the most screwed up draft system in all sports, at least the last CBA made SOME improvements. As far a Lohse goes. What he needs to realize is that if a team would rather have a first round draft pick than him then he probably isn't that good. He had the opportunity to accept an insane one year deal and not have to go through all of this but he chose to decline, probably because Boras told him to. He made his own bed here and has nobody to blame but himself.
  22. Invader if you are going to switch to DirecTV make you sure know how many cable boxes you are going to want for the next two years. I have them and when I decided that I wanted another tv hooked up they gave this insane price of $150 + $5 a month just to get another box.
  23. This whole situation just goes to show how much of an advantage AL teams have. Khris Davis would be our every day DH if we were in the AL and we wouldn't even be thinking twice about it. But here we are talking about which player can change positions so we can get our best team out there. I don't care what MLB picks but make a dam decision on the DH! It's crap that NL teams have to continue throwing pitchers up to the plate while AL teams can pay someone to do nothing but hit.
  24. I don't understand how he can't learn to play first base. Other than left field that's gotta be the easier position to learn. I don't expect him to be a gold glover out there but with a few weeks practice he couldn't be that bad. That being said he'd better not be that Brad Nelson type player where he is up but sits on the bench 12 out of 13 games.
